Double LP version. Music from Skalpel's iconic debut for Ninja Tune, reinterpreted by top Polish producers! Poland's ambassadors of jazz-inspired electronics invited outstanding local producers of downtempo, dance music, hip-hop, and jazz to remix this album. The result is Recut, the best remix album in the history of Polish phonography. A record every bit as worthy as the historic original. It's an extraordinary tale of the past and present of Polish electronic music. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Skalpel's debut album, which was released by the famous British label Ninja Tune in 2004. The Polish duo, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło, gained international acclaim by venturing into the then lesser-known territory of Eastern European jazz, updating it with electronic tools. Pitchfork enthusiastically praised the album: "On these tracks, Skalpel smudge the line between organic and electronic effortlessly, like a landscape artist working with charcoal, creating NoPaper Records deep nuances of light and shadow that give the work its overall depth. Its rhythmic dexterity and melodic sweep are hard to deny." Featuring remixes from Latarnik, Pejzaż, Expo 2000, Magiera, Kacper Krupa, Zuchy, Emade, Zura, ETNOBOTANIKA, Steez, En2ak & Rafał Dutkiewicz, Kixnare, Envee, Daniel Szlajnda, 2K88, and Pstyk.

LP version. Her tracks have been played and recommended by Iggy Pop, Mary Anne Hobbs, and Nine Inch Nails. Zamilska, one of the most original artists on the European electronic scene, presents a new album, United Kingdom Of Anxiety. Combining the rawness of techno and the trance-like nature of world music, industrial sound and a fine blend of trip-hop, the Polish producer created a dystopian, post-apocalyptic, fascinating vision of a collapsing world. United Kingdom Of Anxiety begins with a sonic assault. The breaks and powerful bass in "Phantom" awaken from hypnotic slumber, numbness caused by the daily hustle, serve as a reminder that to survive in an unfriendly world, concentration, willpower and perseverance are essential. The much-needed balance and coolness are brought by huskie vocals -- that is Ola Myszor -- an incredibly talented young artist who appears in several tracks on the album. Besides huskie, there are other guests on "UKOA": Natalia Przybysz, who, with a robotic voice, delivers a manifesto of indomitable, proud solitude in "Persist" and Lukasz Pach, the charismatic frontman of the grindcore band Hostia. His growling is heard in the intense, uncompromising "No Gods," which was presented by Iggy Pop on his BBC6 Music radio show. All the tracks on the album were mixed by Haldor Grunberg from Satanic Audio, known, among other things, for his collaboration with the band Behemoth. The sonic spectrum is also filled with anonymous voices: echoes of quarrels, media messages, sounds of war clamor, monologues -- looped, accelerated, manic, psychotic, but also a wistful singing coming from the depths, from afar. The metaphysical horror of Lovecraft on one hand, and the sober, no less gloomy diagnosis of George Orwell on the other, constantly correspond here. This entire album is a story about society as a whole and the contemporary, dystopian world, which is inevitably heading towards war. The track "1984" clearly defines the inspiration for the artist's post-apocalyptic vision. A distorted radio signal, alarm siren and gabba/techno beats driving into the head like nails serve as an expression of the fear and anger born in a world of impending totalitarianism. Zamilska's original vision captivates with its scope and aura of strangeness and creates a refreshing tension. It also inspires admiration for the producer's craftsmanship -- Zamilska controls every detail of this symphony of horror and, like a true artist, transforms violent emotions into a work of art.

Skalpel is a nu-jazz classic. On their debut and sophomore albums Skalpel and Konfusion (Ninja Tune) they were able to resurrect the dusty spirit of the '60s and '70s jazz and reimagine it for the 21st century audiophiles. They created emotionally charged music, sophisticated in its structure. After ten years Skalpel returned in 2014 with Transit, an album that segued from sample-based music into compositions created on virtual instruments. Their last studio album Origins (R 132LP, 2022) was an inspiring contemporary vision adapting various currents of electronica and dance music of the millennium era. The latest release earned them a Polish Grammy -- Fryderyk Award. The journey continues as Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło present Skalpel Big Band. Patryk Pilasiewicz, composer and musician from Poznań, who is the originator of the idea, dissected and revised Skalpel's music for a seventeen-person big band. The idea was to weave new, acoustic interpretation of Skalpel's compositions with their original electronic sound.

Double LP version. The Polish duo Skalpel release their new album Origins. Origins is an inspiring contemporary vision adapting various currents of electronica and dance music of the millennium era. Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudlo, the duo's founders, on Origins: "This album is a kind of prequel. We return to the music of the '90s that we had listened to and that inspired us before we discovered the potential of jazz sounds. A bit of a fictional compilation like those once released by Mo'Wax, Ninja Tune, Wall of Sound, !K7. Nostalgia mixed with the desire to update those ideas gives the music a contemporary sound. At the same time, this is an eyewitness and earwitness testimony of one of the most interesting chapters in the history of electronic music." Throughout the years, Skalpel have been blending local, traditional jazz inspirations by means of new electronica. This original approach sparked interest of Ninja Tune who subsequently released Skalpel's two enthusiastically received albums: Skalpel (2004) and Konfusion (2005). These paved the way to the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Award nomination. Their critically acclaimed 2020 album Highlight (NOPAPER 120CD/LP) together with the follow-up: Escape Remixes EP (which included a remix by rising modern classical star Hania Rani and globally respected house duo Catz 'N Dogz), accrued many streams. Skalpel's full spectrum of their imagination and skills was also enhanced by their well- received concerts with a live line-up. For fans of: The Cinematic Orchestra, Bonobo, Kruder & Dorfmeister, DJ Shadow.

Throughout the years, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło have been blending local, traditional jazz inspirations with means of new electronica. This original and now signature approach initially sparked the interest of Ninja Tune, for whom Skalpel recorded two enthusiastically received albums: Skalpel (2004) and Konfusion (2005). Both albums brought them particular acclaim in the form of a Gilles Peterson Worldwide Award nomination and excellent reviews in NME, The Wire, and DJ Mag, along with a worldwide tour. Transit (2014), Skalpel's third album marked a significant shift in their creative technique, a shift from samples to virtual instruments. From an emerging duo to major acclaim the pair's new album Highlight, sees Skalpel take another turn, delivering their most comprehensive body of work to date. Finding a range of influences from the likes of Miles Davis, leftfield avant-garde, minimal, and the extensive legacy of both Warp and Ninja Tune as always, Skalpel allude to roots in Polish jazz and trip hop. However, within their creative process Skalpel's focus remains centered with a contemporary sound coupled with their own autonomy and originality. The forthcoming album Highlight is a further extension of this method, existing as a demonstration of joyful, creative explosion and constituting their most rhythmically diverse and harmonically enhanced body of work to date.
