For the fifth release on Grand River's experimental label, One Instrument, synthesizer maestro Donato Dozzy gifts us with an incredible, psychedelic 38-minute journey. "Slow Train" has been created using the EMS Synthi AKS, an extraordinary and rare portable modular analog synthesizer, first manufactured in 1972. This One Instrument Sessions release highlights the artist's most experimental side on what will be his seventh studio album. These tracks are the honest outcome from a long and intimate engagement with the instrument which were produced in his San Felice Circeo studio during an "altered state" night in October 2013. The resulting music is one of fluid continuity; Dozzy's most extensive, vigorous, and determined application of real-time studio recording to date. The intensity of both parts of "Slow Train" are comparable to a mindfulness experience in which the listener's perception of reality slows down enabling every small detail of the sound to become alive and increasingly vivid. Few DJs and producers are as widely and universally acclaimed in techno circles as Italian Donato Dozzy. He has a rare ability to work his way into peoples' minds in both contemporary and classical settings, conjuring real mood and atmosphere. Never one to pay heed to the zeitgeist, he prefers to deal in hypnotic soundscapes that really take you on a trip. Enigmatic as he is, and laidback as he seems, as an artist he is constantly unveiling new work. Displaying a large variation in terms of sound and method across many new releases each year -- some of which come on his co-owned label Spazio Disponibile -- he also puts out installations for public spaces and museums, uses obscure musical instruments, collaborates with like-minded producers, classical singers, or visual artists. Donato seems to continuously challenge himself on a creative level: whatever method he uses, though, he is always likely to permeate your cerebral cortex and rewire it in fascinating and compelling new ways.

Three one-take vibraphone tracks recorded by Alessandro Di Puccio eighteen years ago. The tracks are a selection from eleven pieces that were originally created for a theatre piece called "Il silenzio è d'oro" (Silence is golden). After 18 years of being kept in a drawer in Di Puccio's home, these previously unreleased works will finally see the light of day. Short and powerful, these tracks suddenly break the silence and reflect Di Puccio's interest in evoking virtuous and tender emotions. Edition of 100.

One Instrument Sessions series presents the Indonesian artist, Fahmi Mursyid. His mini-album includes six tracks that have the ability to take the listener on a warm, experimental journey of varying timbres. The artist has always had a personal interest in traditional Indonesian instruments, specifically from Sundanese culture. Considering the strict guidelines One Instrument gives the artists, Mursyid has succeeded in getting the most out of his chosen instruments. With each of the six different acoustic instruments he has eluded clichè and surpassed physical limitations to shape a bold, alternative musical language.

One Instrument is run by Aimée Portioli aka Grand River. In a scenario of an overwhelming number of instruments, musicians often do not take the time to deepen and explore the creative possibilities of each piece of gear they possess. One Instrument Volume 01 aims to counter-act this tendency by challenging and limiting each artist in producing a composition by using only one instrument of their choice. The various artists format aims similarly to create a harmonious journey across different sub-genres in the ambient, techno and experimental worlds, which can perfectly embrace each other. One Instrument Volume 01 opens with a composition by In Bloom, the new project of Martino Bertola, who drives directly into a melodic ambience. Following it is the dense, polyrhythmic experiment by Fabian Kempe's project Korridor. Serena Butler's piece is built around spacey sounds and breezy rhythms. Yhdessa, the newly born Dutch-Italian duo formed by Grand River (Aimée Portioli) and Enrica Falqui, leans towards ambient atmospherics and ominous sonorities with a refined northern European touch. Yair Elazar Glotman ventures forth his contrabass skills, giving an acoustic touch to the record. Swedish producer Fjäder (Ida Matsdotter), handles the flip with a moody techno cut filled with evasive analog cues. Claudio PRC delivers an electroacoustic soundscape created with a tiny, graceful drone machine. The Dutch duo Wanderwelle closes the LP with a dreamy and delicate excursion evoking the mysterious sides of nature.
