"2CD in six-panel digipak. Reflections in Repose captures the pure essence of Steve Roach's ever-deepening intimate embrace of silence, breath, rich harmonic inventiveness, and shifting liminal states; it's a sound and style completely unique to his electronic/ambient vision. Created over two evenings at the close of 2023, the music was recorded in the same sequenced flow as presented on the two discs' 116 minutes. The five long-form tracks were performed on a single instrument -- the Oberheim OB-X8 -- the modern equivalent of the iconic Oberheim OB-8 which Steve used 40 years ago in the making of his classic piece 'Structures from Silence.' Steve reflects, 'As I conceived these pieces, the intention and flow was to merge into the space where 'Structures' was born. Not as a nostalgic tribute but rather embodying the place where this essence lives within me. It's the realm where I fully inhabit the emotional suspension and dynamic connection to the transportive power of sound. Expressing it in the moment with clarity and focus.'"

"Steve Roach's new purely atmospheric statement hovers within a warm and embracing expression of etheric ambience. One Day of Forever pulls back the layers of memory, time and perception to express life's amber-lit emotions, continuing an intimate, mystical-revealing vision within Roach's work. In this one day of forever the meditation on longing, nostalgia, connection, loss, grace and gratitude transmutes from fleeting moments, forming into gentle epiphanies. This album furthers the refined intention within the elemental approach first expressed on his previous 2CD, Reflections in Repose. The pieces began with a minimal collection of instruments leading to emotive sonic choices which paint the impressionistic realm contained in each of the album's five long-form pieces. The core of the release is built around the beguiling sound of the Mellotron (originally an English electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in 1963, but here performed on a new Swedish digital version) and emotional warmth of the Oberheim OB-X8. Steve reflects, 'This music reaches towards the moments between moments, leading to the eternal now. Each day provides the opportunity to connect to a sense and knowing of forever in our own individual ways; it lives within my ears, eyes, heart and soul, nourished by the ineffable and my desire is to embrace each day into forever.' CD in four-panel digipak."

"A classic mid-90s release in the shoegazer genre. A beautiful wrestling of ethereal noise, Lovesliescrushing emerged in the early '90s as America's answer to Britain's My Bloody Valentine and the nascent shoegazer scene. LLC's first two Projekt releases of captivating low-fi sonic atmospheres invoked a tangled palette of noisy guitar textures, frenzied distortion and longing ethereal vocals. From milky softness to a blasting metallic roar, instrumentalist Scott Cortez took the shoegaze genre to its furthest regions, far removed from song-structured pop. On these two albums, Lovesliescrushing originated a sound still reckoned with today. A beautiful labyrinth of noise... a combination of Melissa's ethereal vocals and Scott's saturated, overloaded distortion wrestled from his 12-string guitar. The resulting 'ethereal noise' is chaotic and innovative... gritty, choppy, stunning and beautiful. A sound that captures the sensation of falling, floating on a wave of sounds bleeding into one another like staining watercolors. CD in 4-panel digipak."

The Oort Cloud is a vast spherical hull of ice proposed to reside on the outer rim of our solar system. Nothing in this cloud has yet been seen, though it may contain icy objects including comets once close to the sun. This imagined place is the inspiration for ambient musician Forrest Fang's The Oort Cloud Meditations. While many of Fang's releases are a hybrid of electronic and acoustic instruments, his latest remains predominantly a free-floating, transparent and gently unfolding electronic space. Using synthesizers to a greater extent than on previous releases, Fang organically transforms their tones into undulating harmonic gestures through ambient treatments and processing. The five far-reaching movements proceed at a relaxed pace; drifting atmospheres ebb and expand gradually, encouraging the mind to wander untethered. 'I created this album over an intense three months,' says Fang. 'It started with a simple experiment that continued to evolve and spilled over into new pieces as the results grew more interesting and more sonically complex. I created electronic sounds that revolved around each other semi-randomly with room for harmonies to develop organically from these interactions. I used melodies sparingly, subtly introducing alternate tunings at times to reflect different moods.' The work's open-ended textures are at times reminiscent of Brian Eno's generative soundscapes but more dynamic in nature. Our visit to the Oort Cloud ranges from distant celestial skies to internal spaces. Clusters of thick harmonious tones form their own vibrating cloud; it momentarily hangs in the air before receding into silence."

Stephen Hill, Hearts of Space Radio: "Abandoning all conventional notions of music as melody, harmony and rhythm, Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces allows the listener blissful hours on the high frontier between deep listening music and the spirituality of pure sound. On the 20th anniversary of Roach's breathtaking album, Projekt collects all four parts into a single release -- close to five hours of electronic ambient music. Moving into the majestic realm of pure, non-rhythmic electro-acoustic soundworlds, these four discs are a milestone from a true artist of sound. His landmark statements -- including Dreamtime Return, Magnificent Void and Structures from Silence -- are all parts of the uninterrupted flow which built to this 2003 release. Roach's awe-inspiring sonic immersion delves into a spiritual dimension of sound. This release offers a listening experience creating a new sense of 'ambient orchestration' through a constantly shifting flow of textures that enter a sacred realm of music." Steve Davis, Neptune Currents, KKUP-FM: "Steve Roach has created an ambient masterpiece: a varied collection of totally absorbing, immersive soundworlds, clearly a milestone in electronic music." John Diliberto, Echoes: "It floats in a space of richly detailed but minutely shifting sound constructs that owe more to Gyorgy Ligeti and Mark Rothko than early Roach touchstones like Klaus Schulze and Salvador Dali. Roach is creating a free fall through space, less rooted in the pulsing techno-tribal sound of his 1990s music and more ecstatic in its evocations of something beyond. He carries you to groaning turgid depths then lifts you as electric guitar glides and synthesizers gurgle, shudder, and swell in an Aurora Borealis of sound." 4CD eco-wallet; limited edition of 1000; Originally released in 2003; 20th anniversary rerelease.

"Turning shadows into sonic emotional rivers, synthesist and composer Jeff Greinke's A Thousand Year Flood skirts the edges where modern classical, electronic and ambient music converge. Working with cellist/violist Heather Bentley, Greinke's first record for Projekt in 26 years is a hybrid of ambient chamber music and electroacoustic beauty. Throughout the near-hour-long set, atmosphere is critical to the impact as Greinke locates his paired-back minimalism within a setting of spaciousness and sensitivity. 'A Thousand Year Flood,' Greinke explains, 'represents further explorations in composing electroacoustic music which I began over a decade ago. This time rather than working with an ensemble I focus on one instrumentalist -- cellist/violist Heather Bentley. Whether working with scored parts, improvising under my direction, or freely exploring her own ideas over my sketched-out sections, Heather's thoughtful expressions fit seamlessly within my own. Heather's voice is unique, lending a more expansive breadth of harmonic richness and emotional body to these compositions.' 'In the last four-plus decades my work has veered in a few different directions, the exploration of raw sound itself and the treating and layering of such sounds to create complex and interesting textures, moods and atmospheres, has always been my primary focus.' On his 23rd release, Jeff Greinke realizes an engaging balance between consonance and dissonance, timbre and shade, ambience and aura. His impressionistic ambient chamber music shimmers in the passing light of melodic stringed textures and shifting electronic shadow. CD in four-panel digipak, limited edition of 300. RIYL: Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Johann Johannsson, Max Richter, Hania Rani."

"Rest Of Life is Echoes Radio's March 2023 CD of the Month. Echoes is a daily two-hour music show distributed by PRX and broadcast on 120 radio stations from Maine to Hawaii (and Alaska!). Emerging from a place of deep peace, expansiveness and renewal, Rest Of Life is Steve Roach's new 130-minute opus to quietude. With a graceful, nurturing quality expressed in five different reflective moods, the first 70 minutes (disc one) is impressionistic, emotion-infused electronic soundscapes. As Steve reflects, 'I consciously tuned into the soul tone of Structures from Silence and Quiet Music. Not in a nostalgic sense but exploring and expressing where this feeling lives in me now in the depth of myself at this point in time. As stated in the Quiet Music release notes years ago, the heart of this deep listening occurs not only within the experience of the music itself but also within the place that you are after the music fades and you return to the silence, this rest of life.' Disc two, The Knowing Place, embraces a vast majestic textural landscape that plays with the unexpected harmony of chance and expanding time. The single, extended composition evolves over 60 minutes: gently ecstatic mystical spaces emerge and finally surrender to a deeper embrace of living, breathing, stately thematic chordal passages and melodic interweaves that include processed viola performed by Linda Kohanov. The spacious symphonic arc and emotional resonance of the track culminates in a restorative journey, fully integrated and renewed. 'The title Rest Of Life,' Steve reveals, 'is drawn from my relationship to time itself. The priceless value of time and how we engage, rest, immerse, play with, step out of, create and love within our precious time on this planet. Every day I feel the Rest Of Life revealing itself in subtle yet dramatic ways.' Two-CD in six-panel digipak."

"Projekt's remastered edition of 2002's Trance Spirits returns to a hypnotic world of primal, passionate percussion inter woven with a tapestry of sonic atmospheres and electronic hybrid grooves. These seven tracks pierce time with the heartbeat pulse of the electronic soul welded to organic drums of skin and wood, a rush of ecstatic spirit-catching rhythms elevating a meditative trance state. Orchestrating a thunderous album of sound, Steve Roach's expansive array of synthetic sound worlds, hybrid groove percussion, and textural guitar-based atmospheres overlays the timbre-rich beauty of Middle Eastern and West African-influenced drumming. Pounding, pulsating percussion from drummers Jeffrey Fayman and Momodou Kah were recorded as a real-time continuum with long-form grooves performed live in the studio. Entranced by their own propulsive spirals, the grooves evolve over the course of the tracks -- it's a complex juggernaut. Later, in the Timeroom, Roach and Fayman shaped those initial recordings with Roach sculpting an overlay of electronics performed in the moment. Augmented on three tracks with subtle guitar tonalities from King Crimson's Robert Fripp, the 74 minutes of music unleash primal forces with an intense undercurrent of rich, transporting rhythms anchoring the body to the energies of the earth and sky. Sonic Curiosity: Expect dense trance music here: expansive regions of atmospheric drones punctuated by tribal percussion and astral tonalities. Sonic clouds roil and ooze with haunting moods that envelop the audience, lifting them from the earth and elevating them into realms that exist only in the mind. Out-of-print on CD for almost a decade, Trance Spirits' throbbing, insistent mysterious rite employs ancient and modern musical devices to traverse layers of consciousness, reaching an ecstatic state of full body engagement trance illumination. "Join veteran Norwegian ambient/electronic artist Erik Wøllo on a sonorous travelogue through daring, contrasting places and states of mind. Since the early '80s, Wøllo has created peerless electronic music, and Sojourns advances with nine captivating pieces. His 36th release is a sound-trip of bold and shimmering cycles of enduring, energizing music. Erik reflects: 'A sense of being somewhere for a moment, a Sojourn. That is what I work to achieve in my music. I explore the idea of sound as a place in time: how each composition on an album is a place to be with its own story to tell. I ask myself how it can affect a listener's perception. Creating an aesthetic that imbues an atmosphere which allows us the freedom to drift off into virtual mental wanderings. To stay there temporarily, and then move on to the next place, to the next piece of music. In a mind frame in which we experience psychological events, a continuous passage of existence. Where events pass from a state of future potential through the present to a state of past finality like a memory.' The first track 'Memory Waves' is a dwelling slow motion EBow intro that moves into 'Distant Thunder' with mounting percussion loops steadily energizing the listening space with guitar and synth strings keening through cavernous reverberation. The title track 'Sojourn' is a hypnotic and drifting rhythmic track with shifting themes and intervening patterns. A calmer mood comes out in selections like 'Gravity' and 'Peace Bells', again with a contemplative and authoritative soaring guitar EBow that leads the course ahead. The finale 'Still Water' has a more introverted and fragile form that shines with a soft tremulous light. All nine tracks possess a sense of drama, captivating as well as enigmatic, always Wøllo trademarks. Throughout, Wøllo maintains the feel of crossing a majestic landscape over the earth and beneath the stars. Images border on dreams within these seductive Sojourns. CD in four-panel digipak."

"Composer and recording artist Forrest Fang refined his dynamic hybrid style of composition over the past four decades, expanding upon his roots in progressive music, minimalism, textural ambient, and the traditional musics of Asia. Drawing on his deep knowledge of sound creation and manipulation, he uses the studio like a separate instrument to create distinctive, alluring and otherworldly atmospheres. With captivating approaches to sound creation, his latest Projekt album Forever Cascades presents a series of intricately-layered sonic vignettes and impressionistic soundscapes inspired by shoreline walks over the last year. 'Though my walks near the San Francisco Bay were initially a way for me to clear my head,' says Fang, 'I also found myself drawn to the cycles and cadences of tides and aquatic life that shifted gradually from season to season. I was seeking a similar underlying cadence or pulse in these pieces that would evolve over time.' The walk-through sound returns to where it began with subtle changes in perceived time and space. "In a masterful expression of subtle, potent ambient-electronic minimalism, Steve Roach's newest release activates an internal opening of the mythic imagination. The slowly unfolding interweave of zones, drones and atmospheres displays compelling, deeply evocative textural pieces with an interconnected sense of mystery, awe and wonder. The gently engulfing interplay between the album's seven pieces provides contrasts of shadow and light, shimmering beauty and alluring soundscapes stretched into infinity. The revealing of the music unfolds into stately sonic formations of hypnotic weavings, hazy atmospheric swirls and murmuring reverberations. Roach establishes each sound world through engaging a multitude of techniques and hardware-based instruments with fluidity and grace. Manifesting from the essential foundational DNA of ambient music, this is an album of elegant, deeply nuanced audio alchemy. The expansive minimalism reveals a shadowy and emotional spaciousness that meditates on the enduring essence and power of sound and our place in the center of it."
