"Three live performances of collaborative electroacoustic compositions from 2007-08, recorded in London, Brisbane and Antwerp, each exploring different points of contact between precomposed structures and spontaneous invention: a duo adrift (in memory of Paul Rutherford) with pianist Sarah Nicolls, a nonet codex IX (in memory of Mauricio Kagel) with the Elision ensemble, and a 17-piece group with Ensemble Champ d'Action realizing codex VII (to Vinko Globokar)."

Stephen Grew (keyboard, processing), Richard Scott (buchla lightning, analogue synthesizer, sampler, processing), Nick Grew (transduction, processing) & David Ross (drosscillator) + special guests Orphy Robinson (vibraphone) & Paul Obermayer (sampler). (2006-8) "Grutronic are a collective of free improvisers -- all have a past/present as acoustic ensemble players. In Grutronic they are re-incarnated as electronic musicians, extending technique through the development of personalized systems of sound production and control. Current intuitive and performance-oriented technologies put tools and techniques, once the preserve of the electronic music studio, into the hands of the players. Grutronic take on these new challenges with glee, aiming to surprise and delight the listener and themselves with unheard forms and sound-relationships, fixed during the act of performance."

"Lawrence Casserley (signal processing instrument and voice) & Adam Linson (double bass, live processing and sampling) met first when Adam joined the Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble for the Free RadiCCAls festival at the CCA, Glasgow in November, 2004. They formed an almost instant rapport, which has continued ever since. During Lawrence's European tour in May, 2007 they met again and performed with the Ensemble in Cologne, after which Lawrence spent several days in Berlin. For two of those days they recorded together in Adam's studio. On the first day they stuck to their basic instruments -- Adam on bass while Lawrence was processing. On the second day they experimented with adding Adam's own processing and Lawrence's voice to the mix. Most of the tracks on this CD come from the first day. The enthusiasm, excitement and energy of those sessions will be abundantly clear from this CD." 56 minutes.

Per Anders Nilsson (computer and synthesizer), Sten Sandell (piano, prepared piano, electronics and voice), and Raymond Strid (percussion). "Beam Stone was founded a year before this October 2007 recording. The trio consists of three free improvisers, each with a distinctive personal sound. Their aim with Beam Stone is to explore sonic territories with the guidance of different pre-defined concepts. Listening and sonic exploration are considered the essential points of departure."

"The first solo CD by John Edwards, increasingly recognized as one of the most significant players of his generation. Recorded in splendid detail by John Wall, these nine tracks are a very fresh take on the possibilities of unamplified double bass playing, making it a major entry in the solo bass literature." "This solo recording is an unusual and rare offering that comes from a musician who performs every day, every week, and appears on over 100 records. It's a selection of sounds, melodies, and gestures from this characteristic spectrum, combined with behaviors belonging to a virtuoso, and with those that can only be learned from persistent jig sawing or by illuminating and fusing all user manuals." -- From the notes by Marek Tuszynski. Has been referenced as Steve Beresford's "Best Record Of 2008".

Ray Warleigh (alto saxophone & flute), Tony Marsh (percussion). "'What I play is absolutely unpremeditated. There are no soundscapes or pictures in my head. But I like melody very much, and I've thought about it a lot.' After several attempts to make relatively lavish studio productions we agreed that the music here had the spirit that Ray wanted regardless, or perhaps because, of the absolutely basic way in which it was recorded. Unbelievably, this is only the second album made under his leadership -- the first was made in 1968! His consistently fine playing can be heard in duo with long-term associate Tony Marsh, whose drumming just gets better and better."

"John Eckhardt brings the technique and sensibility required by the music of Xenakis, Feldman and Ligeti to this debut recording of double bass improvisations recorded in 2007. Some of the sounds on this CD might suggest electronic manipulation or overdubbing (which have nowhere been used) -- one of Eckhardt's principal musical strategies is to explore the polyphonic potential of a given playing situation, and another is to concentrate to a seemingly obsessive degree on a seemingly restricted area of instrumental technique until it yields up its inner variety and complexity."

Paolo Angeli (Sardinian guitar & electronics), Evan Parker (soprano & tenor saxophones), Ned Rothenberg (alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet). "The Free Zone in 2007 was played by just three. The smaller than usual line up allowed for a more intense investigation of the relationships between the players. For the first time an entire set was played by all three musicians and this set was so successful that it is presented unedited, along with two duos. There will be no Appleby Festival in 2008, and therefore for the moment the sequence comes to an end with what many people considered the most successful Free Zone ever."

"The second CD by the trio of Rex Casswell (electric guitar), Phillip Marks (percussion) and Paul Obermayer (samples). London, 2004. Bark! take their group virtuosity to new areas, creating beautiful jagged, sharp edged textures propelled by some of their tightest, strangest, most powerful rhythmic designs yet. James Brown meets the spirit of Modernism!"

"Lawrence Casserley (signal processing instrument), Simon Desorgher (flute & bass flute), with Evan Parker (soprano saxophone), David Stevens (computer processing), Philipp Wachsmann (violin). Lawrence Casserley and Simon Desorgher have been performing in and around Peter Jones' inflatable structures since the early '80s, and as Directors of the Colourscape Music Festivals have invited many performers to work with them and create new performance possibilities in these intensely special environments. Evan Parker, Philipp Wachsmann and David Stevens are among them, and various combinations of these players have occurred in many contexts before; but it was in the ColourDome in Exeter in July 2006 that we first played together as a quintet. ColourDome is a vibrant and special atmosphere in which to work, and that day in Exeter was very hot; the intensity of the color and the heat are embedded in these performances. Maybe that explains the intensely colored music, and the way in which our individual sounds frequently melt into one!"

Richard Barrett & Paul Obermayer: live electronics. Recorded 2005/6. "Furt's new CD combines live sets from Durham and Belfast into a vertiginous journey lasting almost 78 minutes. Richard Barrett and Paul Obermayer once more redefine the outer limits of intensity, virtuosity and improvisational rapport in electronic music in Omnivm, named after 'the essential inherent interior essence which is hidden in the root of the kernel of everything' in Flann O'Brien's novel The Third Policeman."

"The saxophonist in a straight-ahead jazz date with John Parricelli (electric guitar), Chris Laurence (double bass) & Tony Levin (drums)." From Evan Parker's liner notes: "Gerd is a holy one. Music incarnate, an Adolphian centaur -- impossible to say where the body and the saxophone separate."
