RENATE 009EP
|
Peak & Swift's first full EP and no surprise it's on Renate Schallplatten. The record comes along with a remix from Renate resident and friend, Marlon Hoffstadt. The Berlin based duo drops some heavy bass lines with storyline synths on the "Floppy", taking you to a time when you were high on the dancefloor; your eyes closed, the lights still shining through your lids. The bells ring in angelic exasty rounding off the title track to be a sure instant classic named after their party series Floppy Drive. The EP embodies '90s dance culture. Marlon Hoffstadt pumps up the drive and adds the depth that only a seasoned raver could reference, making you feel like a Sonic the Hedgehog speed walk. First track on the B-side, "Aurora", is the kind of music you would hear in a '90s sci-fi B-movie where the soundtrack aged better than the movie. The EP is rounded off with "Gonzo", a vintage house production from the duo hailing to '90s legend Torsten Fenslau.

Renate Schallplatten's eighth release comes from Michal Zietara with Olympia Europa EP. The four-track EP, the Polish-born, Bavaria-raised, Berlin-based Renate resident's solo debut features three originals plus a remix from Ian Pooley. "Mr. Joy" is a late-night up-tempo jam. Ian Pooley's flowing remix is in the signature '90s filter house style. The punchy beats and upbeat melodies return on "Euro Robot", this time paired with intricate drums, fluttering vocals, and high-pitched keys. "Pink Seal" is more down-tempo and pensive, centered around coherent vocals and smooth pads.

Longhair, a project formed by Marko Pelaic and Benedikt Bogenberger, presents four-trackerMangostine EP. The title track sees a brooding bassline meet light, fluttering melodies and uplifting keys, for a peak-time roller. "Pans & Pots" starts as a darker affair with trippy vocal samples and fluttering drum patterns, before warm keys and intricate instrumentation lift the mood. Studio Barnhus head Axel Boman reworks the title track into a more subtle, deeper cut. "Aquamen", meanwhile, opens as a straight-edged techno cut with a heavy bassline and fluttering snares, before playful keys and intermittent sci-fi samples add some texture.

RENATE 006B-EP
|
Renate Schallplatten is bringing together the creative might of their residents on two 12" EPs. Over the years, the label has grown from an impetuous party to a glorious club. The second EP is visited by long-time Renate friends, France's dOP. Michal Zietara, the Polish heartthrob turned Bavarian hiker, is joined by Voe, the mastermind behind Suxul. Homeboy's "Hadi" is the Croatians influence by the Arab World in a culturally appropriate track, leading to Mehmet Aslan's very own sultan of beats, making a sandstorm with this timeless piece.

Israeli producer Moscoman delivers three yacht rock killers on acid, opening with "Girls Down South" and one of his first productions, "Deluded Heart," featuring dreamy, MDMA-esque synth action galore. On "Dévoué," Moscoman shows how smooth his oscillations can get. Lithuanian madman Manfredas delivers a behemoth of a remix chopped up in a sampler he bought at a yard sale in 1992. Face-melt city.

RENATE 003EP

Sebastian Voigt presents a four-track EP on Renate Schallplatten. The release includes two original tracks featuring different vocalists, plus remixes by Permanent Vacation and Good Guy Mikesh. All tracks were produced, tested and approved in Berlin's favorite madhouse, Wilde Renate. Sebastian explains: "These tracks were made shortly after I moved into my new studio right above the main dancefloor at Renate, where I also play regularly. So saying that the Renate vibes were an inspiration for this EP is a bit of an understatement."

RENATE 002EP
|
In the midst of the crowd, Samanta bumped into a man, a strong man who went by the name of Snuffo. He took her to a room full of smoke and broken televisions to show her something exciting. She said, "What is this?" Snuffo whispered, "Girl, this is acid." From there the night went sideways. Faces of the people in the crowd began to move in weird ways. The music consumed her mind. As the evening rolled on, she came across a bearded character who went by the name of Skatebård. He spoke in a foreign tongue that she strangely understood. Together they found their god Renate and slowly faded away into the cold Berlin night.
