"The late Steve Reid, veteran jazz drummer and percussionist and Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), the British electronic musician/producer young enough to be his grandson, present the fifth and final installment of their momentous synergy. The music on this double CD was recorded in concert on June, 20 2009 in the foyer of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre, as part of the Meltdown Festival curated by free jazz legend Ornette Coleman. For this marathon workout, Reid & Hebden were joined by Swedish power saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, whose fiery blowing style had inspired Kieran to seek out a drummer like Steve to work with in the first place. Live at the South Bank stands as a memorial to a thrilling and productive partnership sadly cut off in its prime."

'Few bands can make you instantly recall your favorite summer, your first kiss, or the first time you snuck out of the house. In Bergen, Norway, Razika, 4 precocious 19 year old girls, have discovered how to conjure these emotions, channeling a mix of innocence & rebellion, romance & heartbreak, & gift giving & gun slinging into their debut, Program 91. The album is a glorious contradiction; an exhilarating mix of ska, Riot Grrl, 60s girl groups, post-punk & upbeat, C86 pop that would make Phil Spector, The Specials & The Raincoats proud.' 'A sunnier, poppier take on post- punk like Kleenex/LiLiPUT or Swell Maps. Not that they sound redundant - we need great pop rock like this. It's infinitely listenable' -- The Fader

"The debut by Diskaholics Anonymous Trio - Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, and Mats Gustafsson - was released 10 years ago on the now defunct Crazy Wisdom/Universal label, having been unavailable since. Now Smalltown Superjazzz brings it back into the fray. The trio creates a pulsing, massive & monumental sound. Free-jazz, noise, electronic ambience, drone music & punk all mixed. The result of these 3 titans clashing together is an intense blow-out. Raw, grandiose & brutally beautiful. Cover art by Thurtson Moore & Kim Gordon's daughter Coco Hayley Gordon Moore."

Subtitled: The Ex Guitars meet Nilssen-Love/Vandermark Duo. "Ken Vandermark & Paal Nilssen-Love have played together since 2000 in various settings & as duo since 2002. The duo work within free expression while including a strong element of heavy rhythmic groove, melody, sound & noise. Together, they join Andy Moor & Terrie Ex of Dutch legends THE EX, who are known for mixing elements of rock, free improvisation, traditional folk & abstract noise to create their own very unique soundworld. Both duos converge, crashing along sometimes, creating a cacophonous racket but always musical & always ready to change direction or turn a new corner. The music is extroverted, energetic, powerful & inclusive but also confrontational & provocative, where rhythm, noise, melody & harmony melt together in perfect union. Recorded live in Amsterdam in 2008."

"Gustafsson (Thing, Gush, Diskaholics Anonymous Trio), a long-time fan of Yoshimi's work (Boredoms, OOIOO), teamed up with her for a duo show at Malmö Konserthus in Sweden in April 2005. The show was recorded & here is the result. A mighty piece of music. A monumental zen-like psychedelic drone piece for saxes & voice. The sound on the CD was created by slide saxophone (Mats' being of the few in the world today to play this instrument), tenor sax, baritone sax, alto fluteophone & electronics, all by Mats, as well as Yoshimi's voice plus electronics." 2006 release.
