"Amazing three disc set of this film and music project made in Colombia. Filmmakers Santiago Posada and Simon Meija arrived at Palenque, near the Caribbean coast of Colombia to record the music of the area and to make a documentary film about the people of Palenque. Palenque is a central location for Afro-Colombian culture, the location of the first free slave (or Maroon) community in the Americas. With its own unique style of music and language, heavily influenced by its African heritage, it holds a unique position and is today proclaimed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The film-makers built a studio in the town in order to record the highly percussive roots music that mixes African and Latin in equal flavors. Once back home they enlisted a select number of like-minded electronic, house and dubstup artists to produce a second disc of remixes - including Osunlade, Mattias Aguayo, Kromestar and others to interpret the original works. This set includes the DVD, a CD of original music and a CD of remixes. It comes in a stunning three case box set with sleeve notes about the project and the history of Palenque and exclusive photography." DVD is double sided, so NTSC on one side, PAL on the other, both region free.

Subtitled: Garifuna: Ancestral Travellers of the Caribbean. "In 2010, Soul Jazz Records embarked on their latest unique recording project, travelling to the Caribbean as they continue to document musical hot spots around the world. Their latest venture is to record the unique Afro-percussive music of the Black Caribs of Belize. Belize (or British Honduras as it was formerly known) was the last British colony in Central America and is currently celebrating its 30th year of independence from Britain. Soul Jazz Records and label founder Stuart Baker travelled to Dangriga, epicentre of Garifuna culture, on the Caribbean coast of Belize, to produce this new album with Black Carib singers, drummers and musicians. The West African ancestry of the Black Caribs is a link to the other Afro-musics of the Caribbean and Latin America - the massive drum groups of the Samba Schools of Brazil, the Voodoo poly-rhythmical drums of Haiti, Afro-Cuban Salsa and the sacred Bata drums of Santeria, as well as the hypnotic rhythm of Nigeria's Afro-Beat and other African musical forms. The album features the many different styles of Black Carib (or Garifuna) music. The most famous and popular form is the punta, a dance style that was updated in the 1970s when local artists electrified the sound to create punta rock. The most successful groups - Pen Cayetano with the Original Turtle Shell Band, and more recently Andy Palacio were the first artists to bring Garifuna music to a wider audience. UNESCO has also recently proclaimed the music of the Black Caribs/Garifuna as one of the masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. The super-deluxe hard-cased CD pack comes complete with extensive text about the culture and history of the Black Caribs of Belize, as well as exclusive photographs of the sessions alongside song annotation and translations."

"Original garage and junglist Grievous Angel makes dubstep, UK-funky and 2-step. Originally from East London, he migrated to Brixton before settling in Sheffield in 2002, where he started producing seriously. His first vinyl outing on his own Devotional Dubz imprint was a dubstep and garage re-fix of D'Angelo's 'Lady Dub,' championed by Radio One DJ Mary Anne Hobbs and dubstep impresario Martin Blackdown Clark. Grievous Angel's gigantic garage remix of jungle don Naphta's 'Soundclash' came out on Blackdown and Dusk's seminal dubstep label Keysound in late 2009 to much acclaim, alongside another Margins Music Redux, where he remixed the entirety of Blackdown and Dusk's first album before re-making it as a DJ mix. As well as doing music, Grievous Angel runs the magazine Woofah, covering reggae, grime and dubstep."

"Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, two legendary Jamaican MCs, Jah Thomas and Little John, recorded this tune using live musicians and analog equipment. This is the latest project from 2-step/electro producer Kalbata, continuing on from his earlier re-fixes of tunes like Courtney Melody's 'Ninja mi Ninja' and previous tracks on Soul Jazz with Warrior Queen and MC Clapper Priest. Here he takes it to the next level with this heavyweight Discomix 12" featuring two vocal tracks plus a killer dub. Superb!"

"Following on from his debut singles Drumz Of No Return and Travelling, Kutz returns with his third installment on Soul Jazz Records! You may have to have been living in a cardboard box not to have noticed the raw talent that is 22 year old Kutz hailing from the bright lights of Croydon. Kutz is a regular on Skream's legendary 'Rinse FM Stella Sessions' as well as numerous collaborations with the likes of Benga and Silkie and an extensive headlining tour of the states, Kutz has firmly placed himself at the forefront as one of dubstep's most talented new producers. 'Grit Your Teeth' has already gained huge support from Skream, Chef (Rinse FM), Scratch Perverts, Hatcha (Kiss FM) and Mary Anne Hobbs to name a few, working with a sparse but refined palate of hard slapping snares, twisted heart-shuddering bass and Benga style kickstepping rhythms, 'Grit your Teeth' has been shaking dancefloors from the UK to USA! On the flip 'Par-ti' takes a more uptempo dubstep-rave direction Kutz combines a heavy stomping bassline with schizophrenic synth pattern with the swagger of UK funky and dancehall."

"Subway II, the debut album by Subway on Soul Jazz Records, is a startling cosmic marriage of influences -- German electronic rock music from the 1970s (Cluster, Kraftwerk, Neu, Harmonia, Ash Ra Tempel), '80s Detroit science fiction techno (Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills) and a hint of Italian and European disco (Danielle Baldelli meets Cerrone, Space, Moroder and Jean Michel Jarre). Subway are Michael Kirkman and Alan James and have been releasing music since 2000. Subway II was recorded at home in East London using a plethora of analog equipment and techniques that enabled them to create sound reflecting cityscapes such as Berlin, Dussseldorf, Detroit and Paris whilst at the same time creating a contemporary musical commentary of London in 2009. This album is a cosmic progression of post-dance music, focused more on meditative thought and space than one made for the dancefloor, yet still encompassing the rhythm and constant beat at the heart. Their most recent appearance is on Soul Jazz Records Singles 2008-9 alongside Kode9, Digital Mystikz, Tetine, Secondo, Ramadanman and other forward thinking electronic pioneers. With three previous sell-out singles on Soul Jazz Records (Simplex, Satellites and 4410), an album Empty Head (released in 2005) as well as a string of one-off projects, the group are currently name-checked by everyone from Hot Chip to DFA, Prinz Thomas to Carl Craig with good reason. Subway II is a fitting conceptual statement of their current sound. Cosmic, post-dance, organic, meditative and hypnotic."

"Soul Jazz Records are pleased to introduce to you, Kutz! Some of you may not be familiar with the sound of fresh new talent, but Kutz -- hailing from Croydon aka the dubstep mecca!! -- has been a busy bee deep in the studio producing tunes for some years now, some of which have been co-produced alongside his buddies Skream and Benga. Kutz' track 'Twilight Zone' featured on Skream's latest mix CD, Watch The Ride! became one of the highlights of the mix and Kutz recently guested on Skream's infamous radio show The Stella Sessions on Rinse FM to roaring success. Kutz also co-produced the 'Ill Kut Ya' with Benga, which has been blowing up dances on the underground dubstep scene for some time now and appears on Benga's latest offering for Tempa.
