Following the departure of Van Morrison in June 1966, Them regrouped in Belfast and then relocated to California in 1967. An established live attraction, they gigged widely and embraced the psychedelic movement, releasing this fine album in February 1968. Adding a trippy, experimental edge to the heavy R&B they were renowned for, it's best-known for the mind-blowing 10-minute raga "Square Room." It makes its long-awaited return to vinyl here, complete with an insert featuring rare pictures and background info. On 180 gram vinyl.

Originally released in November 1968, following the departure of founding member Ray Elliott, the second of Them's post-Van Morrison LPs finds them continuing the psychedelic experimentation of Now and Them, which had appeared that February. Blending sitar-soaked Eastern psych-pop with heavier R&B numbers and a couple of trippy ballads, it's an essential spin for fans of acid-tinged pop-rock. It makes its long-awaited return to vinyl here, complete with an insert featuring rare pictures and background info.

Originally issued in a tiny vinyl run over 20 years ago, the first of two legendary compilations are reissued on 180 gram vinyl for the first time, together with an informative full-color insert replete with rare pictures and background notes. Many of the featured bands shared stages with the legends of the time, but failed to make it big, meaning that their 45s now change hands for vast sums. If you ever assumed that the late '60s Michigan scene was all about the Stooges, the MC5 and the Amboy Dukes, one listen to these snarling, fuzzy classics will blow your mind for good. Artists include: The Up, Sweet Cherry, Pitche Blende, The Glass Sun, Dick Rabbit, Popcorn Blizzard, The She-Devils, Renaissance Fair, The Orange Wedge and Dick Rabbit.

This legendary compilation of 1960s American psychedelic punk was one of the very first albums of its sort ever assembled. Featuring numerous legendary 45s, (including the absolutely stellar and berserk 1967 Laurie single by Balloon Farm "Question of Temperature," the Swamp Rats' basement-fuzz version of "Louie Louie," and the pre-Pentagram outfit Macabre with the truly sinister "Be Forewarned") as well as some utter obscurities, it is presented here on 180 gram vinyl with remastered sound and a full-color insert with rarely-seen pictures and band histories, making it a genuinely essential addition to any self-respecting garage connoisseur's collection. Other artists include: Music Machine, Painted Faces, Velvet Illusions, Unrelated Segments, Outcasts, Murphy & The Mob, Sparkles, Painted Ship, Mouse & The Traps, Calico Wall, White Light, Zakary Thaks, Shy Guys, Bourbons, Minds Eye, Stereo Shoestrings, Caretakers Of Deception, Remaining Few, Teddy & His Patches, and Indian Puddin' & Pipe.

Probably the best album to appear on the leading Myrrh label, established as a division of Word Records by Billy Ray Hearn in 1972. This was the debut recording for the British outfit, Water Into Wine Band, which appeared in different forms on both sides of the Atlantic in the mid-'70s. Although Myrrh enjoyed some commercial success with cross-over artist Amy Grant, whose secular albums were marketed by A&M and were also able to boast CCM albums from the likes of Billy Preston, Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Al Green and even Cliff Richard, from a musical perspective, Hill Climbing... was in an altogether different league. The band was formed at Cambridge University by four extremely accomplished musicians, two of whom were to go on to perform with a major orchestra, and Hill Climbing..., or at least the UK version presented here (Myrrh, feeling the album too raw for the sensitive American market, shipped the band to the States to do an anodyne re-record), has gone on to achieve the status of a progressive folk masterpiece. The album is beautifully recorded and the exotic array of instruments including bongos, timpani, gongs and violins, combine wonderfully to produce a recording of musical and technical brilliance. An extremely good album and highly recommended.

180 gram vinyl version. This London-based quintet's ambitious and highly entertaining debut touches on psychedelia, progressive rock, jazz and pop, with imaginative arrangements and superb musicianship. Issued on the tiny Evolution label in the autumn of 1970, it sank without trace, with original copies now changing hands for several hundred pounds.

Formed in Perth in 1970, progressive rock outfit Bakery is generally regarded as one of the best of Australia's early '70s underground bands. The band's music blended hard rock with country and jazz, using complex arrangements and exhibited the ability to switch from gentle acoustic passages to booming, heavy progressive assaults on the senses within the same song. Momento, released in 1971, was described by rock journalist Ian McFarlane as a European-influenced recording full of sprawling, moody progressive rock cuts like "Faith To Sing A Song," the jazzy "Living With A Memory," and the hugely impressive "Holocaust." Fully remastered and pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve.

Purple Image's eponymous and only album merged a strong blend of soul funk and psych rock to considerable effect. Released in 1970 on the obscure Map City label, Cleveland-based Purple Image sadly managed only this lone effort. Its clever use of fuzz and wah-wah guitar demonstrates a clear Hendrix influence, as does the second side's final track, "Marching To A Different Drummer," a 15-minute guitar jam extravaganza. The overall sound is tight and driving, making for a truly excellent album with some outstanding cover art. Fully remastered and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

Though credited as the sole work of The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band frontman Bob Markley, this is in fact the final album made by psychedelic legends WCPAEB, recorded and released towards the end of 1969, and released under a new name in a final attempt to find commercial success. A far cry from the experimental rock of earlier releases, the album contains melodic songs and delicate arrangements, though the eccentric influence of Markley is as strong as ever, making it essential for fans of the band. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

This is the fifth album by psych legends The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Recorded shortly after this legendary Californian psychedelic band had left Reprise (where they'd made three classics), this oddity is more pop-based than their previous efforts, though the eccentric influence of frontman Bob Markley is still strong. Released in the summer of 1969, it sold poorly and hasn't been widely heard since, making this 180 gram LP reissue especially welcome.
