"Sudden Death Records presents No Escape From What You Are. In 2023, the DOA guys came up with an album concept: 'Hey why don't we get a bunch of our punk rock pals to record DOA songs.' So Canada's Godfather of Punk, Joey Shithead Keithley contacted a bunch of his old friends and his favorite bands. As one can see form this sterling lineup, their reaction to covering DOA material was great! DOA, known as the Godfathers of Hardcore and more specifically Shithead himself inventing that term, have influenced bands and fans alike since 1978, having played over 4,500 shows in fifty different countries on five different continents. For a lot of the musicians involved here, DOA was one of their first two or three punk bands they ever saw in their lives. So what one has here are incredible versions of fifteen great sons that Shithead and friends wrote and DOA recorded and performed during the past forty-seven years. "In 1982, D.O.A. was ready to record a new album on the heels of their first two alums: Something Better Change and Hardcore '81, which are still both musical landmarks to this day. But their legendary line up had changed, as Randy Rampage was ousted from the band. Chuck Biscuits' older brother Dimwit Biscuits stepped in on bass with Chuck still on drums, Joey Shithead on vocals and guitar and Dave Gregg on guitar. While this line up only lasted for three months, the band traveled to L.A. and recorded demos at Mystic Studios. Eventually Chuck quit, Dimwit took over on drums and Wimpy Roy became the bassist. So, as a grand way of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of War On 45, which many a critic and fan hailed as one of the most innovative albums of its time and on a par, quality wise with their first two albums. Sudden Death decided to add some bonus material. First off, now included is a 12-page booklet of unique photos, posters and an extensive history of D.O.A. at that time, written by Canada's godfather of punk Joey Shithead. Also, all eight tracks from the War On 45 1982 release are on side A and seven tracks from the pre-War On 45 demos that were recorded at Mystic onto Side B. So, one has the Montgomery brothers: Biscuits and Dimwit, two of the greatest drummers of all time on the same LP. All in all, this album will hit one hard, the way D.O.A. always has and it sums up one the best eras of these world-renowned punk pioneers."

"The Pointed Sticks were formed in early 1978 and quickly became a big part of the underground punk/new wave scene in Vancouver, Canada, gigging with bands like D.O.A., the Subhumans and the Dishrags -- they had a fun, quirky style that they combined with pure pop genius. Their first single, 'What Do You Want Me To Do / Somebody's Mom,' was released in 1978 by the newly formed Quintessence Records. It quickly took off and led to the follow up 'Real Thing / Out of Luck' single on Quintessence as well. In 1980 the Pointed Sticks signed to Stiff Records and flew to England to record an album. Throughout their short career, 1978-1981, the band produced three singles and a multitude of demos and TV and radio recordings. On this compilation one gets to hear one of the very best bands of that great musical era at their most inspirational stage."

2021 repress. "Sudden Death is excited to announce the release of the D.O.A. album 1978. It's a 21-track collection of never released demos, rare tracks and early singles from Canada's punk pioneers. Joey Shithead went deep into the vault and came up with some super exciting and raw punk rock. The album title and art concept is a spike-haired nod of the head to that early, dynamic era of the band and to the seven great former members who have since passed on. Their spirit and talent played a huge role into launching the band into worldwide prominence. The two constants on the album are Joey and Chuck Biscuits, who play on every track. From the start of 1978 begins their wild, 'I don't give a shit' approach to punk rock. Now some forty years later one can hear it all, starting with the never-seen-the-light-of-day demo version of 'The Enemy'. This demo has a different set of lyrics that speaks to fighting Nazis -- strange, what is old is new and vital again. There's a ton of exciting tracks that range from the never heard before, such as 'Bored And Suicidal', 'The Mutant', 'No God No War', 'Rip Dis Joint', 'No Way Out' and 'Rent-A-Riot', to classic early singles like 'Fucked Up Ronnie', 'Disco Sucks', 'World War 3', 'The Prisoner' and '13'. The experimental, sax-wielding, freak punk outfit continue to accrue a loud and controversial name for themselves since forming in 2012, and has as of late been a crucial force in bridging a wide gap between the eastern and western hemispheres of DIY punk rock. "Sudden Death Records are very happy to release this 1982 D.O.A. classic album in it's original form on CD for the first time. This was D.O.A's third album, coming on the heels of Something Better Change and Hardcore 81. It made a greater impression on punks and a wider swath of people than the band had ever reached before. One of the key tracks was their version of Edwin Starr's giant hit 'War,' (The Temptations covered this as well). This was the first time that D.O.A. had been widely played on radio across North America and Europe. The band, in the best punk/reggae spirit, really broke open some new ground for themselves with their amazing adaptation of Ranking Trevor's 'War in the East.' Of course they turn the throttle wide open with songs that have become D.O.A. mainstays like: 'Liar For Hire,' 'I'm Right, You're Wrong,' 'America The Beautiful,' 'I Hate You,' 'Let's Fuck' and a blazing cover of The Dils 'Class War.' War On 45 further cemented their reputation as one of the best to ever come along. Jack Rabid (Big Takeover Magazine) said 'D.O.A. and the Bad Brains were the best punk bands to ever come out of North America and were really only comparable to the likes of The Clash, SLF and the Sex Pistols.' War On 45's stunning front cover was created by Shawn Kerri and inside the CD, the U.K. version's cover that was created by the ingenious Native American artist Clay Sampson is included. That cover depicts Colonel Custer filled with arrows at the battle of Little Big Horn which was a fitting end. War On 45 is a fitting comment on the '80s and somehow the songs still ring true today."
