SUPPLY 012EP
|
Supply Records label manager Soren Jahan returns to the label with his first appearance under his René Audiard moniker since 2012's Pechorin album. On "Spectre," stabs of dub-influenced chords surface and fade away as the track builds to a killer climax of 909 percussion before "Orly" raises a barebones structure for its understated but deadly acid line. On the heady microhouse collage of "Odkrycia," Jahan stacks jagged-edged sample-layers in a style reminiscent of the most out-there Background and Perlon before sinking into a melodic trance. "SZCZ" rounds things off in a similar collage style but with a steadier, more peaceful progression.

SUPPLY 011EP
|
Supply boss John Barera and Will Martin follow two 2014 releases on Steffi's Dolly label -- the Milestones EP and the critically acclaimed Graceless album -- and a 2015 12" on hotly-tipped Chicago label Argot. "This Time" delivers dancefloor euphoria with rough-and-tumble 909 programming, well-seasoned percussion samples, and a soulful organ line. The introspective, swinging "The Maker" features Barera's trusty Juno 106 beautifully complemented by an eternal string line and bouncing synth stabs. The screaming disco loop of "Above" threads past teasing Juno licks until the roof blows off. The delicate beat of "Anchor" holds together its arcing, soaring synths.

SUPPLY 009EP

Leeds native Louis McGuire has spent the last decade living in Berlin, where he and Supply label manager Soren Jahan crossed paths. McGuire serves as a drummer and producer for pop trio Ballet School and plays bass in Maayan Nidam's rock project The Waves & Us, and now it's his time to shine on his own. Banging house productions, pure and simple. Anthem-level chord progressions, a drummer's taste for rhythm, and the instinct of a live performer come together without compromise in this EP. "Acrasia" includes live-recorded drumming, recalling McGuire's many performances and jam sessions in Berlin's live music circuit.

SUPPLY 008EP
|
The first Supply showcase: four label-newcomers range with veteran authority from deep house to driving techno. The opener from Line Cook is a grooving house burner: an infectious loop and low-slung drums build triumphantly. Anders Hellberg drops in some acid, with a strident 909 beat stalking an open, melodic soundscape. Kicking off the flip, label co-owner JB teams up with Bostonian Paul Morse in an icy, tantalizing variation of elastic, swinging deep-house; before Stojche's "Outward" opens up an ending, its pounding beat laced with bittersweet Detroit strings.

SUPPLY 007EP
|
Supply Records welcomes Will Martin to the label for his debut collaborative EP with John Barera. "Awake" is a storming disco house cut drenched in soulful strings and cracking drums. "Say It Now" is a Rhodes-driven piece, also for the dancefloor. "Unknown Factor" starts the B-side off in a different mood, with a stiff and rolling exercise in string and stab-driven techno funk. Title-track, "Yen," closes the record with a haunting atmosphere and cascading synthesizer washes.

SUPPLY 006EP
|
Supply Records introduces S. Jahan's Mechaniker project with a four-track techno EP. Title-track "Station" sets the mood with grinding ring-modulated percussion. "Krone" increases the pressure of the synthesizers while adding a menacing lurch to the beat. "Reben" starts the B-side with a new intensity -- a stomping and swinging beat under clouds of modulated chords. Finally, "Die Werke" takes the Mechaniker sound a step darker, with a maniacal atmosphere soaking its funked-out drum take.

SUPPLY 004EP
|
Supply Records presents co-founder John Barera's first EP for the label. Barera, known as one half of B-Tracks, as well as for his solo productions, here shows a gritty and warm sound. On "Walk Right In" he provides a sharp, raw, upfront house tune. "Laying Low" is a dubby affair, yet still driving and aimed right at the dancefloor. "Get Real" is an introspective, but forward-moving cut. "Don't Look" is a piece of rolling, vocal-driven house. Deep house cut "Viewpoint" closes the EP in fine style.

SUPPLY 003LP

Soren Jahan is a 23-year old Ithaca-based producer known as half of B-Tracks and a founding member of Supply Records. On his debut as Rene Audiard he drops seven varied techno tracks. The productions all bear Audiard's trademark rough texture and stripped down aesthetic. Ranging between stark dubs, lo-fi house, upfront Kraut-style techno to beautiful ambient soundscapes, this album is a strong entrance for the young artist.
