"Debut album by this band from Santa Barbara, California. A five man band which included three brothers -- one of them being Ernie Joseph, lead guitar and vocals, who would later form and lead the psychedelic band 'Big Brother'. Highly consistent throughout, the album delivers 16 well constructed songs in a psychedelic soul vein, with catchy tunes and heavy drums; horn arrangements cater for the soul touch. While their follow-up album drifts away from their psychedelic roots, the band managed to record in this debut album one of the best records in the UNI catalogue. "Hailing from New York, the band was led by singer Anne Sarofeen, who's described in the album's own liner notes as 'a lady both fierce and gentle, whose music knows truth, tragedy and beauty.' We don't really know if she's fierce or gentle, but her incredible voice has often been compared to that of Janis Joplin, Ellen McIlwaine and Mariska Veres (of Dutch stars Shocking Blue); unfortunately rock history is cruel and she never received the credit she deserves for being right at the top with other unique female singers. She has also composed half of the songs on the album. The album offers 9 songs in a bluesy, heavy psychedelic vein, which to a certain extent remind us much of Jefferson Airplane. Most of the songs are the band's own compositions, with the only exceptions being a take on Martha Velez, 'Swamp Man,' and a cover of 'Rocky Mountain Blues,' well chosen covers that fit perfectly the band's identity. Limited to 500 copies, with remastered sound and preserving the original artwork.

"An obscure garage band from Los Angeles, released locally in 1968, who still remain relatively unknown within collector circles. The Novells offer a nice garage / psych mix, with a certain pop side. A mix of original compositions and some covers, the album delivers a strong, effective organ sound and some nice fuzz guitar, giving it a real psychedelic Doors vibe. Surprisingly well produced for being a private release, makes for a nice discovery for any psychedelic garage collector. "Formed in the English Midlands as a six-piece band in 1969, Galliard released their second LP New Dawn in 1970. The album has a strong progressive flavor, with an interesting brass section and great, strong melodies. It also features the great sitar breakout 'Ask for Nothing,' certainly one of the highlights here, a trippy nine minute long sitar raga. Although their first album Strange Pleasure is widely known, New Dawn has remained somewhat unknown to collectors and is reissued on vinyl here for the first time."
