TEMPLAR 012EP
|
Templar Sound presents the first collaborative release from Sydney producer George Nicholas (Seekae and Cliques) and Berlin artist Laurens von Oswald. Both debuted on the TS000 compilation (2012), appearing solo under the monikers Hensen and Bardeya. The two combine under the banner of GNL to deliver a four-track EP of crushing, monolithic techno. From thundering opener "MO" to the pulsating depth charge of closing track "RR", the EP maintains a relentless and brutal precision from beginning to end. Mastered and cut by Christoph Grote-Beverborg at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.

Breathless is the debut EP from Dutch producer Mokona. The EP follows his untitled 2014 white label 12", also released via Templar Sound. Breathless captures four slices of serene, aquatic ambience, opening with the gentle wash of "Morning Vapour" before Mokona suspends reality with the spacious and meditative "Shrine Garden." The flipside begins with the pneumatic throb of "Inner City Test Run," a soundtrack for late-night street-racing. Tranquility is restored once more with "Lake Interlude/White Water," closing out the EP on a soothing note.

TEMPLAR 009EP

Eugene Hector combines his two most well-known aliases on his latest 12". The A-side contains two tracks from Hector's house-focused Tuff Sherm guise. The first, "Scope," combines a dark, chunky bassline with jacking drums and a slick Lil Wayne sample. The second Tuff Sherm effort, "Prime Engine," recalls the hydraulic pump of Steve Poindexter, but with a much more menacing feel. On the flip, Dro Carey returns with "Human Parcel," an ominous number that combines a dark, brooding undercurrent, shuffling percussion, and grimy strings. DJ Vague gives it a muscular, club-friendly remix to finish off the 12".

TSWL 001EP

"The first entry into the Templar Sound white label series comes via Sydney savant Dro Carey. Carey's 'N.R.' beat is the centerpiece of this vinyl-only release. The track is a menacing hybrid of rapid-fire martial 808s and uncompromising sub-low bass, indebted in equal parts to Black Ops and Mobb Deep. Grime don J-Sweet forges his own uncompromising version turning the instrumental into a brutal piece of eight-bar weaponry guaranteed to cause damage in the rave. The A-side of the record is reserved for a vocal of the 'N.R.' beat by South London's Merky Ace with the MC riding the track with ease, his vicious flow effectively kept in check by Carey's brooding instrumental."
