"Imaginational Anthem Vol. 7 is compiled by 20-year-old guitarist Hayden Pedigo, from Amarillo, TX. Hayden has recently been featured in Vogue and The FADER behind his own recent album release, Five Steps. Hayden's curation represents a balanced cross-section across the modern solo acoustic guitar spectrum. As with previous volumes, this one truly represents the state of the art -- an area of evolving musical expression that is very vibrant and healthy indeed."

"In celebration of the centenary of Louis Feuillade's Fantomas silent film series, James Blackshaw was invited by Yann Tiersen to perform a live score to the fifth and final film, Le Faux Magistrat, at the beautiful and prestigious surroundings of the Theatre de Chatelet, Paris on October 31, 2013. Fantomas -- a master of disguise and symbol of terror -- is one of the most popular characters in French crime fiction, as well as a favorite with the avant-garde, particularly the surrealists. Tim Hecker, Amiina, Yann Tiersen and Loney Dear also performed during the event (which was broadcast live on the European ARTE channel) each bringing their own unique sonic perspective to the other installments. Written during the course of a few months, Blackshaw drew influences from French impressionist composers, Brazilian guitar music, musique concrete and the works of other film composers such as David Shire and Pino Donaggio, to create a noir-ish score that is in turns sinister, quietly profound and thrilling. Personally invited by James Blackshaw, experimental musician Duane Pitre and Simon Scott (also of Slowdive) contributed drums, electronics, synth, bowed guitar, bass and more to Blackshaw's nylon string guitar and grand piano, with multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Glasson adding violin, vibraphone and several wind instruments to the 75-minute long work."

"Don Bikoff released one lone, rare solo album, Celestial Explosion, on Keyboard Records in 1968, now reissued by Tompkins Square. Watch the YouTube video of Bikoff playing on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour, taped May 12, 1968. You'll see the sheepish, long-haired, mustachioed musician spinning gold in a style (still?) so foreign to the mainstream listener. The befuddled host concludes after Don's performance, 'That's unusual to say the least.' A kid from Oyster Bay, LI, Bikoff got his start in Greenwich Village, annoying Dave Van Ronk and playing the folk/blues circuit where he met Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Jesse Fuller, and Mississippi John Hurt. The comparisons to John Fahey's and Robbie Basho's work stated in the LP liner notes touched a nerve with Fahey himself at the time. Today, those comparisons are still inevitable; however they are for lazy ears. Bikoff has his own approach. Don is only 65 years old, and he's still playing strong."

LP version. "Kentucky native Mark Fosson recorded one album for John Fahey's Takoma Records in 1976 which went unreleased until 2006. Mark recently found the home demo for that session. Here's what he has to say about them: 'These 11 tracks are the songs I began writing after acquiring my first 12-string guitar. I recorded them in my living room on a Pioneer RT 1050 2-track reel-to-reel with a rented microphone (I believe it was an AK6414 but I won't swear to it). All are originals except for 'Back In The Saddle Again' which resulted from my other obsession at the time of watching old black & white Gene Autry movies any chance I could... Most of these songs would appear later in slightly altered form on The Lost Takoma Sessions, but these original versions are my personal favorites. I can't believe the tapes have survived so long and still sound as clean as the day I recorded them.'"

"The Black Dove is a collaborative project between two like-minded artists, Christian Kiefer and Sharron Kraus. Kiefer is a Sacramento-based singer/songwriter with several acclaimed concept records exploring the history of the American West, who has collaborated with members of Low, Wilco and The Band. Kraus is an English folksinger in the tradition of Sandy Denny, Linda Thompson and Anne Briggs, a dark folk troubadour whose debut album Beautiful Twisted made Rolling Stone's Top Critics' Albums for 2002. In creating The Black Dove, the two worked on songs and instrumentals based on the idea of love letters between two people, one the pursuer and one the pursued, one flesh and blood, the other a ghost. Kiefer's forest-bound Northern California studio was awash with mandolins, guitars, pump organ, tongue drums, and banjos. Blue jays squawked through the trees, the flies swarmed and buzzed, the wind whistled through the pine needles. The album is meant to be experienced as a sonic novel with each song or chapter referencing the text."
