The fifth release on Violet Poison is a compilation of fresh artists working in the camp of experimental and extreme techno. First up is O/H, Ontario Hospital, the power electronics project from Canadian duo Richard Oddie, half of Orphx, and Dave Foster, better known as Teste/Huren, the legendary Probe/Plus8/Zhark producer. Here they provide a powerful industrial track enhanced by distorted vocals and pounding low-end. Sunil Sharpe provides "Ground Skull," a heavy production with sinister bells and delirious vocals, while Ontal continue the theme with breakbeat techno and ambient drones. CSA, the new ambient project of Ascion, finishes with "Overture", a cacophonous, roiling, near-beatless number.

Violetshaped is a collaboration between the enigmatic Violet Poison and Berlin-based artist Shapednoise. Violetshaped Remixes Part 2 is the second in a remix series divided into several parts. This time round they appoint Keith Fullerton Whitman, JK Flesh, and Grischa Lichtenberger for remixes of their eponymous debut album tracks. The KFW recomposition of "Anesthesia" is worth the entry fee twice over -- masticating the original with his hybrid analog/digital modular system, manifesting a noxious roil of stereo-splintered percussion, banking clouds of gaseous metallic tone and plonging globular bass oozing for 13 minutes. The legendary Justin Broadrick aka JK FLesh has his way with "cX31Ø," first sizing up a widescreen gothic intro before a Reese bass-drop and half-tempo amens roll out from the shadows like "The Dark Soldier's" dungeon-dwelling spawn, while Lichtenberger reduces "Spectral Nightdrive" to a schematic of precise bass pressure and mercurial, Autechre-ian oversteps.

Violetshaped is a collaboration between Violet Poison and Berlin-based artist Shapednoise. This first installment in this series features remixes from Roly Porter (formerly of Vex'd), who electrocutes "The Lord Won't Forget" with spasmodic concrète jolts, Vatican Shadow aka Dominick Fernow tattooing your ear drum on "Delusory Parasitosis" with drum work almost approaching Cut Hands levels of focused ferocity, and Kangding Ray who rounds it all out with a grungy, pendulous re-carve of "The Oven."
