WPH TEN9-EP
|
Adham Zahran, Egyptian DJ and producer, provides of some of the deepest grooves ever to arrive at We Play House HQ. On his debut EP for WPH, Zahran presents two pieces of divine house music that ooze soul and musicianship. "The Midnight Tower" will go straight to your hips with it infectious piano hook whereas "Disco Infinite" is a subtle disco-fied bass affair that would sit well next to classic Theo Parrish or Moodymann stuff.

When We Play House boss Red D heard "Toriton" being played by Ken Ishii during a WPH radio takeover on Belgium's Studio Brussel radio station -- not abiding to any trends, just devastatingly beautiful house music. Some license negotiations and months later, Satoshi Fumi agreed and made "Lalalalaland", a brand new track to go along with "Toriton" for this EP. "Toriton" has that unmistakable Detroit feel that takes you from melancholy to euphoria and back, while "Lalalalaland" has been described as "Japanese sunset trance" or "end of the night eyes closed hands in the air stuff."

We Play House Recordings is the brainchild and musical playground of veteran Belgian DJ and producer Red D. This man has been DJ'ing for as long as he himself can remember (it's actually 27 years) and has built up a cult-following in Belgium and beyond. We Play House Recordings has always aimed to be more than "just" a music label and over the years it has turned into a brand of trust for (house) music lovers. With label stages and parties at Tomorrowland, Ampere, Panorama Bar, and many more, and with a community of dedicated followers, We Play House Recordings aims to be a brand of trust and a household name in the Belgian and international music scene. Ten years is long time in any business, but in the music business it is almost an eternity. That is why We Play House Recordings is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a first ever label compilation with this triple CD release. Over the years artists like Locked Groove, FCL, San Soda, Art Of Tones, Luv Jam, Kiani & His Legion, Russ Gabriel, and countless others, have found a home on We Play House Recordings, a home where they have the freedom to release house music that does not follow trends or hypes. Both as a DJ and as a label A&R, Red D simply believes that if he likes it and it sounds special, it deserves to be heard. That is also why We Play House Recordings gives chances to so many young (Belgian) producers. We Play House Recordings 10 Years is more than just a retrospective. For Red D and We Play House Recordings, good (house) music is timeless and thus older tracks are included next to a whole bunch of new and exclusive tracks by San Soda, Locked Groove, Metrobox (presents WLC), Kiani & His Legion, Russ Gabriel, Fabrice Lig (featuring Red D and Lady Linn), and many more. It's also worth noting that many of the tracks on the compilation have never before been released digitally. Also features: Lemakuhlar, Dektro, Humandrone, Tyree Cooper, FCL, Luv Jam, Mona Lee, krewcial, DJ Longsleeve, ITW, Kate Dilemma, Maxim Lany, Raoul Lambert & Nacho Marco, Jus' Raw, Jeremy Glenn, Sean Haefeli & Mculo, Kai Alcé, Reggie Dokes, James Teej, Sebastien San, Nick Berlin, Ante Perry, Outlander, and Miclem.

Metrobox has cooked up a collection of original, mind-blowing, swinging and most of all beautiful tracks ranging from total dancefloor devastation to introspective journeys. At the heart of Metrobox' sound is a love for Moog, 909 and SH 101 sounds, combined with a knack for seductive melodies and a healthy dose of vocal action. Two collaborations with WPH head honcho Red D and Belgian MC champ TLP add some extra old-school flavor to the proceedings.

We Play House compile a set of most wanted tracks from the deleted part of their catalog plus a bonus cut. We Play House presents Ceci C'est Pas Un Reissue. "We here at WPH are not ones to celebrate each and every significant number in our history. We do not even consider numbers to be that significant. But what we do believe is that every story has its ending and that every ending should come with a bang."

The first two-sided release and the first full remix EP in We Play House's V.I.P. series, featuring our distinct remixes of FCL's "Can We Try." Swiss dancefloor master Deetron is in his usual storming remix form, delivering a monster of a track. We Play House founder Red D celebrates his love for old Italian Yamaha DX21 house sounds and cuts up the vocal MK style. WPH mainstay Russ Gabriel volunteered to do a remix, which he delivers with class and panache. Kiani & His Legion go for a Daft Punk approach to great effect.

WPH NEWBEAT4
|
Fourth and final chapter in We Play House's tribute to Belgian new beat. This time, four Belgians and one German present their rendition of new beat. This last episode brings us the WPH heavyweights FCL & Locked Groove, both giving very different renditions of their new beat vision. FCL goes all oldskool with menacing, mindless new beat vocals, Locked Groove takes it slow and deep. Lauer, being a big new beat fan, is all over his track, and Innershades takes his classic raw Chicago approach and turns it into a track that would have been a staple during Belgium's new beat heyday.

We Play House hails the return of Spain's Nacho Marco, who was responsible for WPH 010 together with Raoul Lambert. For his WPH comeback, the Valencia kid has teamed up with the vocal talents of Aqeel, bringing you the acidic soul masterpiece "Open." Think Deetron on a dark day. On remix duty we find young WPH buck Kiani & His Legion who came up with two remix versions. His "Basement Remix" will go well into any Levon Vincent set and his "normal" version is vintage Kiani. Raw Belgian talent at its very best.

Locked Groove has made quite a name for himself in recent years. Hot Flush, Turbo, and remixer of choice for a variety of killer imprints, including WPH (Orange). Being from Belgium and blessed with a healthy dose of Absurdistan humor, it was only logical for him to join the label's ranks. Musically, they just told him to do whatever he wanted to do, and so his love for Detroit and Belgian trance vibes are shining firmly on both "Aquarius" and "Latency (Sunrise Mix)." It would be silly to describe beauty like this, so we won't bother. Just get the EP and trance the fuck out on it.

Belgian talent Kiani & His Legion (aka Thomas Neyens) has his very own distinct sound. Totally Kiani and also totally WPH. Kiani & His Legion should have already caught your attention with his free Records & Culture vinyl in WPH's V.I.P. Series and he was also responsible for "Legions of the East" on the recent WPH Summer Special 2013. Being a vinyl lover himself, it seemed fitting that WPH release his full EP debut on vinyl-only, containing four tracks that will show you the full spectrum of his house music universe -- melody, breakdowns, surprise and emotion.

This third volume in WPH's Our Beat is Still New project completes the 12 tracks that form the album. The A-side opens up with the Dresden counterpart to WPH, the Uncanny Valley family of Jacob Korn, Credit 00, and Sneaker. With "Drum Abuse" they provide the roughest track of the compilation, and one that will have techno DJs play new beat again. The second track on the A-side comes courtesy of Jacques Renault and Mark Verbos aka Goodnight Moon, giving a serious New York rendition of new beat. On the B-side we have Social Disco Club and Outlander, both no strangers to WPH, and both very much on point again here. Social Disco Club marries his trademark deep house sound with a new beat feel, and Outlander was pretty much there when new beat started, so he provides us with vintage machine slowness straight from new beat heaven.

We Play House label-boss Red D decided to ask a bunch of his favorite producers new and old to make a new track inspired by Belgian new beat from the '80s. The result -- dare we say it -- is nothing short of astounding, with people from all over the house board bringing a fresh take on the genre. In this first volume (of four in total) we find Juju & Jordash, JD Twitch and Metrobox.

This We Play House release comes from two trusted label names: WPH's Welsh man with various plans Luv Jam and SRF Inc, a moniker for German wunderkind Dynamodyse. We Play Mouse" and "We Play Ooidonk" talk that classic Luv Jam walk. SRF Inc is everything that Dynamodyse is not; SRF Inc is everything that Dynamodyse is, too. Just as Luv Jam's music talks for him, so it does for SRF Inc.

San Soda with a certified banger in all possible ways. On "See More Days" San Soda collaborated with Jacob Korn to make the track, to which Red D couldn't help but write some '90s-styled, cheesy, make-the-world-a-better-place lyrics, which were then put into vocals by the effervescent Belgian singer Gustaph, recent member of Hercules & Love Affair.

This is the second release by Mathias "Matze" Schmitt aka Dynamodyse. "Always Toujours" opens up the EP with piano house bliss. "Quiet Quality" also has a distinct piano melody in it. On the B-side we first find "Driftwood" -- vintage Dynamodyse and very much reminiscent of his first EP on WPH, St. Germain meets Larry Heard, or something like that. As a little bonus, the B-side also holds the first solo remix by Red D, ever. Pressed on pink vinyl.

Three house tracks from FCL followed by a Balearic remix by Arto Mwambe. Vocalist Lady Linn is the perfect conduit for the sounds and lyrics, with "Used To Be" taking things deep and melodic for an anthem that will touch all love criminals. The mandatory instrumental is there so Red D can play the vinyl when performing with Lady Linn. "Back" is aimed straight at the dancefloor and is vintage WPH/FCL/San Soda material.

Jeremy Glenn, a Toronto-based singer, presents a storming 4-tracker, situated in that wide area WPH calls "house." From the deep and oldskool vocal bangers "When I Met You" and "Surrender," to the more Balearic "Driving At Night," via the slowhouse beauty "Nothing Feels Like Music," this is a package packed to the rafters with soul and passion, combined with that ever-present WPH rawness.
