"Tim Simenon's Electric Tones imprint kicks off the new year with this fabulously understated 3-tracker from Mr. Avocado, an opus in minimal construction and soundscaping. Spanning the whole of Side A, Checkpoint Fender manages to sound as if it's being played backwards from beginning to end, looping itself into an organic weave of rustling percussion and a sublime, solitary guitar. Lazy comparison points would take you from Fennesz to Hobby Industries to Gamelan, but the overall experience is one of reduction and catharsis amidst a streak of sheer originality. 'Left of Legzira' on the flip unfolds with a dub aesthetic that manifests itself with deep bass pulses and a wash of static that is more or less comparable to the sound that Pole is so well known for, but with a gentle assembly of unknown sounds that Ricardo is fast making his known domain."
