"Tim Simenon's Electric Tones imprint kicks off the new year with this fabulously understated 3-tracker from Mr. Avocado, an opus in minimal construction and soundscaping. Spanning the whole of Side A, Checkpoint Fender manages to sound as if it's being played backwards from beginning to end, looping itself into an organic weave of rustling percussion and a sublime, solitary guitar. Lazy comparison points would take you from Fennesz to Hobby Industries to Gamelan, but the overall experience is one of reduction and catharsis amidst a streak of sheer originality. 'Left of Legzira' on the flip unfolds with a dub aesthetic that manifests itself with deep bass pulses and a wash of static that is more or less comparable to the sound that Pole is so well known for, but with a gentle assembly of unknown sounds that Ricardo is fast making his known domain." "Jukebox is the label's first album release and features all three EPs only released so far in limited vinyl runs. Featuring a combination of established names, new aliases and outright recording debuts, the common thread is in quality, eclecticism and experimentation. From sonic brutality to digital lullabies with everything inbetween - where else could you hear new material from Bomb The Bass, Jaki Liebezeit (ex of Can ) Opiate and Christian Kleine all on the same project? Thomas Knak a.k.a. Opiate, having recently produced tracks on Bjork's Vespertine contributes three new tracks; Late, Dublo and Post of what he calls sadcore -- moods of childlike innocence underpinned by a modern dub sensibility. Tim Simenon unveils a new alias Flow Creator. Two tracks of electro; Ikara mixing syncopated beats with beautiful modal scales and Robot Finger where distorted beats and an insistent loop morph and shift into different shapes and colours. There is also an exclusive unreleased Christian Kleine remix of Bomb The Bass, from the collaboration with Morr Music's Lali Puna."

"5678 is the fourth release on Tim Simenon's Electric Tones label, and the second part in a series profiling worldwide practitioners of the electronic arts. This release sees the return to the label of Opiate, as well as the recording debut of the exotically named Ricardo Avacado - a fresh new talent from Amsterdam. Track 1 ('Music: The Conspiracy') sees Ricardo creating an unsettling air of atmospheric whisperings, underpinned by tight, clipped dub grooves. 'Jingle Jingle' then sees digital percussion collide with haunting textures to create a rich sonic sculpture. Opiate continues the dub theme with 'Duplo', where reggae is chopped and filtered into abstract machine funk. 'Post' is more typical of his other work, as an understated melancholic mood is enhanced by a simple melody line and syncopated snares." Limited stock.
