SOUVENIR 059EP
|
As an artist, Christian Burkhardt is not content with existing within the realms of house and techno, but is determined to further stretch its limits with his signature sound. Originally from Heidelberg, Germany, he has carved out his own unique path in production, something which is perfectly evident on Sent the Money Back. His earliest productions found their way onto Oslo, Raum, Musik, Deep Vibes and Area Remote; all contemporary go-to labels for quality house music. Over the years, his productions have surged through the speakers of main floor events and fuelled after-hour parties across Europe and beyond.

COR 094EP
|
With his second EP for Cocoon, Christian Burkhardt again sets new standards. There's nobody around who is able to alienate vocals from the collective memory of Afro-American culture into a hallucinogenic cocktail without harmful side effects in such a way than Burkhardt has. Nevertheless, and despite the massive, forward-pushing bass drum and hand claps, he never loses his soul focus. So, have fun with "Heart & Mind" and the acid-like "Waffles," while the tropical, hypnotic atmosphere of "Twentysecondcenturydrama" whets your appetite for summer.

COR 082EP
|
One of the pioneers of the Rhein Main house movement Christian Burkhardt presents his debut on Cocoon. "Stopover Goa" features percussive funk, powerful hand-claps, some wild pitch acid and alienated adrenaline-diva vocals that would even make Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave envious. In a less obvious way, "Chanel" hypnotizes the listener with a vibrating form of tribal house reduction that cultivates statically-charged energy states over almost nine minutes. Rarely has modern house music sounded so equally complex and clearly structured.

OSLO 009EP

"What's the secret to making a dancefloor explode? If you'd like to learn, just open Christian Burkhardt's Contemporary Box and look what's inside: At a first glance, it seems that it doesn't contain a lot, except for 3 dance tools. But once on the turntable, you may discover the whole secret of this release. What seems to be so simple is a complex construct of percussive elements and bass lines that are being arranged just in the right way. 'Contemporary Box' finds its peak without even having one, just by grooving on and on, monotonously, with jumping sticks and a pushing bass line. 'Maison Noir' moves a little more to the housier side and is carried by warm chords as well as by effective percussions. Phey Boom brings in a certain coolness and carries that great release home."
