OSLO 028EP

Guillaume is back on Oslo with a thrilling and mind-blowing three-track EP. "Indigo People" is a groovy and kickin' masterpiece. Guided by an analog bass-line, the track slowly marches through a forest populated by indigenous drum machines, while eerie samples fly through the treetops. "Ghetto Indigo" is a classic Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts track. It has the right kind of funkiness and irony, but is grown-up enough to be a mature dancefloor destroyer. "Indigo Shower" is definitely the secret gem of the whole package with classy disco drums, hypnotizing sound scales, and a dreamy but smooth-as-hell track development.

Early support from Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice, Zip, and others. Federico Molinari presents his latest work in the form of two trippy and reduced minimal house gems. Without large detours, Federico drops into "Pildoras" with an unpretentious bass line and classy drum patterns. A quirky voice rises here and there to say what many people surely think, while dancing to this track: tablets. This one is certainly not a track for every occasion, but it can be a real surprise in the right moment.

Oslo's debut compilation CD No Way To Norway, which is compiled and mixed by its label head Federico Molinari, attempts to put the focus firmly back on the DJ. The special mix CD contains ONLY unreleased and exclusive tracks from 20 of the most exciting producers in underground house and techno. And in a major break from tradition, the mix album does not have a tracklist. Instead, it comes with only an alphabetical list of the artist contributors, which means the listener will not know which producer made each track. That's not to say that the Mannheim-based label doesn't respect its artists. On the contrary, by keeping the CD's tracks completely anonymous, it allows the listener to fully immerse themselves into the mix without prejudice. And with all of the contributors shown equal respect and disregard, the listener is more able to fully appreciate the artistry behind the mix. Altogether 20 known and respected artists (mostly Oslo favorites, some new to the label) provided 18 exclusive and unreleased tracks for No Way To Norway. They are: Christian Burkhardt, Damian Schwartz, Einzelkind, Ernesto Ferreyra, Franco Cinelli, Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts (feat. Qzen), Ivel Tax, Johnny D, Juan Sorrentino, Skipson, Leonel Castillo, Maayan Nidam, Michael Melchner, Markus Fix, Noidoi, Reboot, Ray Okpara & Nekes, and Sascha Dive. Federico Molinari's 79-minute voyage begins with an atmospheric wave of sound. Digital bleeps and instrumental moans somehow tie the past and the present together. A deep, muted house groove kicks and grows in confidence, as a party forms around it. Disco moments and loose drums rise and fall. Soulful male and female vocals hypnotize, spiritualize and energize. Sweet keys flow in and out of the mix. Rough kicks and analog hits urge you to move. Wet and dry sound FX compete for dominance with each one providing convincing dancefloor arguments. A hotbed of rhythms bubble and sizzle, as lines of melody and crooked beats worm their way into ever more potent combinations. Basslines punch and growl purposefully. Soaring breakdowns, tribal drops, unstoppable momentum, inescapable soul; and then before you know it, the journey is over and you are cast out of the warm and moist womb of sound into the harsh and cold reality of our concrete world. You press play again.

"Damian is known for his contemporary interpretations of modern club music, and has had some very successful releases. He's an artist that always surprises with new ideas and his own aesthetics in music. This EP contains two very deep techno tools with a very analog feeling. Both tracks are incredibly hypnotic and powerful. 'Plastico' basically lives from its moving bass line -- the rest is perfectly complementing garnishment -- and 'Barrunto' confuses with piano chords and South Amercian vocal fragments while the track itself stays loopy. All in all, a dark EP that fits perfectly to the dark winter clubbing season."

"What's the secret to making a dancefloor explode? If you'd like to learn, just open Christian Burkhardt's Contemporary Box and look what's inside: At a first glance, it seems that it doesn't contain a lot, except for 3 dance tools. But once on the turntable, you may discover the whole secret of this release. What seems to be so simple is a complex construct of percussive elements and bass lines that are being arranged just in the right way. 'Contemporary Box' finds its peak without even having one, just by grooving on and on, monotonously, with jumping sticks and a pushing bass line. 'Maison Noir' moves a little more to the housier side and is carried by warm chords as well as by effective percussions. Phey Boom brings in a certain coolness and carries that great release home."

"Nektarios Danias, alias Nekes, co-founder and co-carrier of Oslo Records, presents his first EP: Cristal. The main track is a top class club tool. With little but tangible elements Nekes creates an ecstatic ambience with high explosion risk. The same can be said about the Sascha Dive remix, that once again reflects the huge talent of this young German house producer. Modernity combined with a classic touch and a big portion of deepness. 'Waitin' carries on with this energy and takes it to the morning hours. A driving track, full of soul. All in all: reduced to the max. A crystal clear matter: Olso, the eighth!"
