70's Prog Rock: Rare Singles is an exclusive compilation of progressive rock songs that were released exclusively as singles by Bellaphon in the early seventies and have only occasionally appeared as bonus tracks on the albums of the respective bands since then. The majority of the songs come from the catalogue of the Krautrock label Bacillus records, but tracks from Admiral records and Bellaphon records are also included. In addition to a large number of Krautrock bands such as Message, Krokodil, Midnight Circus, Dschinn, and Orange Peel, progressive musicians from England (J.C. Heavy) and the United States (Lee Reed) are also represented. The executive producer for most of the songs was Bacillus mastermind Peter Hauke, who, according to legend, coined the term Krautrock like no other. Also featuring Epsilon, Tiger B. Smith, The Shatters, and Maternal Joy.

Soul4Real continues to provide invaluable service to lovers of quality soul music from the 1960s and 1970s, with another carefully curated long-playing selection of incredible music from the enormous vaults of the Ertegun brothers and Jerry Wexler's Atlantic group of labels. Atlantic was and is still based in New York, but its repertoire came from all over the USA. In Here Come The Tears you will hear music from Detroit, Miami, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Houston, Memphis and the Big Apple itself. Most of the featured artists will need no introduction -- and that's how it should be, for they are all legends of black American music, regardless of how well they fared in the US charts. Some tracks are big-ticket items, others can be found on 45 at pocket-friendly prices. Four have never been issued on vinyl until now, including the Drifters' long-thought-lost version of the O'Jays' "I Dig Your Act" and Judy Clay's thrilling take on "The Love Of My Man" -- written by Ed Townsend, who also produced the splendid Dee Dee Warwick track that makes its vinyl debut here. One thing that all these tracks have in common, regardless of their vinyl value, is that they are all priceless examples of soul music, from an era where every US state had its own sound, and every artist their own unique style. There is no reason to list highlights -- every track is a highlight! There is also nothing generic or homogenized about anything you'll hear here -- it's all coming to you straight from the heart and soul. Whether you are hearing most of these tracks for the first time or getting reacquainted with 'old friends', there's more to enjoy on this one album than there is in anything currently being issued in the name of 21st century soul. Also featuring Barbara Lynn, Willie Tee, The Dynells, Barbara Lewis, Bettye Swann, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Darrell Banks, Doris Troy, The Isley Brothers, and Aretha Franklin.

Following up on Ohm Hourani's infectious single "Barbara" which included a remix from Ricardo Villalobos and Amir Javasoul, We R The Aliens is happy to present with V/A from all-star cast: Boronas & Snad, Bärtaub, Mountain People, and Nesta. Tap in and make some space in your record bag. Boronas & Snad set the tone with "Affliction," laden with haunting synth work, rolling MPC percussion, meticulous backspins and mind-bending delays. Fresh off an outing for Yoyaku's main label, Istanbul duo Bärtaub give a strong nod to the '90s and the cult E- MU rompler with "Orbit The Dance Planet." Their track fuses bumpy breaks and robotic voices with ghastly chords, a snaking bass groove and of course, one-shots from the Orbit. Mountain People kicks off the flip side with "I Am The Void," characterized by shuffled drum grooves and soft chord sequences intertwined with murky, dubbed out stabs. Beirut's Nesta rounds out the release with "Tarte Citron," a late '90s tech house reminiscent track with crisp percussion, airy synth flutters, swelling sub bass tones and a catchy vocal hook.

RELEASE DATE: 6/21/2024
Over the last few years, the Italian imprint, Dialogo, has showed a remarkable dedication to the history of experimental music via reissues of seminal artefacts from the Cramps catalog, and important albums by Piero Umiliani, Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Enrico Rava, and others. This initiative now takes on a towering scale with the first ever box set gathering the entire ten album collection of Brian Eno's Obscure Records, originally issued between 1975 and 1978. A truly groundbreaking body of recordings - many of which have remained out of print and difficult to find for decades - it contains some of the most important, influential, and enduring music to emerge during the second half of the 20th Century, which collectively reconfigured the terms of minimalism and laid the groundwork for the emerging movement of ambient music over its short, three-year run. Issued in a deluxe CD edition of 1,000 copies, each box set contains all of Obscure's albums, completely remastered by Andrea Marutti and housed in faithful mini-replicas of their original covers and liner notes, as well as a 130-page booklet, this historic collection marks the first time such a seminal series has received a complete repress. This is certainly one of the year's most interesting, essential, and widely anticipated releases, stunningly produced with the complete involvement of all the artists or their estates. When viewed collectively, the Obscure catalog reveals a remarkable, and previously unexplored counterpoint -- bridging the United Kingdom and the American West Coast -- to the dominant threads of minimal and experimental music, centered in New York that had long dominated the public consciousness. This historic collection marks the first time the seminal Obscure catalog has received a complete repress; simply a dream come true. Featuring Gavin Bryars, Christopher Hobbs, John Adams, Brian Eno, David Toop, Max Eastley, Jan Steele, John Cage, Michael Nyman, The Penguin Café Orchestra, John White, Tom Phillips, Gavin Bryars, Fred Orton, and Harold Budd.

A selection of 28 Colombian cumbia bangers for the dance floor from the deep vaults of Codiscos and associated labels Costeño, Zeida and Famoso, all of them originally released between 1962 and 1983. Cumbia Cumbia Cumbia!!! combines well-known classics and rarities that are difficult to find in their original formats. An invitation to enjoy and be amazed, above and beyond ethnographic and academic concerns. The historical origins of cumbia in Colombia are nebulous and imprecise. The mythology surrounding it suggests an ancient past when Amerindian, African and European musical sounds were mixed together. The main record companies in Colombia such as Discos Fuentes, Discos Tropical, Sonolux, Zeida-Codiscos, Silver, Ondina, Discos Atlantic, Vergara and Curro were created between Barranquilla, Medellín, Cartagena and Bogotá from 1936 to 1954. All of them, without exception, recorded Colombian tropical music that over the years was given different names such as porro, gaita, fandango, paseaito, merecumbé, mapalé, bullerengue or, of course, cumbia. After digging deep into the overwhelming archive of Discos Fuentes in the previous volume, this second instalment in the series Cumbia Cumbia Cumbia!!! comprises 28 Colombian cumbia bangers for the dance floor from the deep vaults of Codiscos and associated labels Costeño, Zeida and Famoso, all of them originally released between 1962 and 1983. Legally established on July 1, 1950, Zeida (later Codiscos) was one of the companies that consolidated Medellín as the epicenter of the Colombian recording industry in the central decade of the last century. Cumbia Cumbia Cumbia!!! combines well-known classics and rarities that are difficult to find in their original formats. An invitation to enjoy and be amazed, above and beyond ethnographic and academic concerns. Featuring Los Hermanos Martelo, Los Trotamundos, Antonio León Y Su Conjunto, Antolín Y Su Combo Orense, Francisco Zapata, Crescencio Salcedo, Sonidos De Gamero, Los Teen Agers, Miguel Villalba Y Su Conjunto, Calixto Ochoa, Alfredo Gutiérrez Y Los Caporales Del Magdalena, El Michi Y Su Combo Bravo, Los Graduados, Gabriel Mesa, Adolfo Pacheco Y Su Conjunto, El Conjunto Miramar, El Combo Cienaguero, La Sonora Universitaria, Orquesta De Marcial Marchena, Rita Fernández, Jaime Llano González, Los Arko, Aniceto Molina Y Su Conjunto, Los Bobby Soxers, Catalino Y Su Combo Negro, La Cumbia Moderna De Soledad, Alejandro Bernal, and Grupo La Droga.

New volume of the Avant Marghen series issued in a numbered edition of 80 copies only. This luxury black boxset edition actually includes the fifth group of seven LPs previously issued for the VocSon series and now sold out. Each individual LP record includes a numbered Avant Marghen inner-sleeves. LP 1 features Jean-Louis Brau's Instrumentations verbales. Jean-Louis Brau (1930-1985) approached everything in an explosive way, sometimes achieving some major results, like his sound poetry, as demonstrated by "Turn back nightingale" (1972). Also included on this one-sided LP are "Elégie Elémentaire" and "Ataloche Roche," both recorded in 1961, as well as "Instrumentation Verbale" and "Cantate pour l'interdiction de Mandrake," both recorded in 1963. LP 2 features Maurice Lemaitre's Poemes et musiques lettristes et hyperphonie. An exceptionally wild sonic art and poetry document, Poemes et musiques lettristes et hyperphonie was recorded between 1952 and 1968. Also included on this LP is a previously unreleased torrid "concerto" titled "L'alcove" for a lettrist male chorus and female solo orgasms, followed by "L'ascension du Phenix M.B." a sound collage from 1967. LP 3 features Ulises Carrion The Poet's Tongue LP. All pieces from this LP, recorded at the Instituut voor Sonologie in Utrecht between September and October 1977, have in common their refusal of discursiveness. LP 4 features Anton Bruhin's 11 Heldengesänge und 3 Gedichte with four-page insert. 11 Heldengesänge und 3 Gedichte is a sound poem which takes listeners into a medieval world of minstrels and errant knights. LP 5 features Gil J Wolman's Wolman et son double. Wolman et son double, a previously unreleased recording probably from the late '70s, is Wolman's most theatrical -- as well as musical and lyrical -- piece. LP 6 features Eduardo Kac and Porn Art Movement's Pornéia, also including an LP-size 40-page full-color book. These previously unissued recordings from the Porn Art Movement (1980-1982) include five performances recorded live on Ipanema Beach in 1982, as well as a selection of previously unheard studio recordings of Eduardo Kac yell-poems. The LP also includes the Manifesto Pornô (1980) and four recordings of Flatographic Poems from 1982 LP 7 features Jose Luis Castillejo TLALAATALA with a dark-grey sleeve, only available with this boxset edition. A killer reading of Jose Luis Castillejo TLALAATALA book by Fernando Millan, recorded in Madrid in 2001.

LP version. "If one survived trips one through seventeen with one tiny speck of psychedelic sunshine intact, Brown Acid: The Eighteenth Trip will be the coming of age nightmare. Vintage underground '70s hard rock, coming at one from bizarre angles, local scene wasteland America when everybody was out for themselves and the drugs went bleak. The guitars kill, the attitude is twisted, even the sex is headed down the wrong road. Real people, no compromise, pure and potent. Get stoked, take The Eighteenth Trip and know that the artists will get paid for this soul pulverizing! Here's just some of the tracks included: Back Jack out of St. Louis, Missouri in 1974 launch the trip with 'Bridge Waters Dynamite.' It's an invocation to rock flashing on Mark Farner whooping up a Grand Funk crowd, then getting to the point quickly with berserk guitar assaults. Heavy riff with power chord stalks beneath as one takes their advice; get loose and blow up the past. Smokin' Buku Band dropped Riding Easy's jaw with the audacious track 'Hot Love,' coming on like some fractured fever dream burlesque of Led Zep, moves out of Hollywood in 1980. Swooping elongated vocals above, a total Zep chord move at the end of each verse. Writer/producer Steve Shauger aka Shag Stevens gets a brilliantly messed up sound quality here, the ideal polar opposite of slick. The extended guitar break is an epitome of serendipitously crude virtuosity, simply outrageous! Nothing better than an angry two chord guitar attack with cowbell to set the stage for this rant about getting 'Ripped Off' by love. Taken from their rare 1977 LP on Dynamite Records, Chicago Triangle was Marvey Esparza, Dave Guereca, Jose 'Tarr' Perez, and Robert Aguilera. They unleash such strong brain-scrubbing wah wah frenzy in the guitar break here that it seems to perversely mock its own intensity! Brown Acid: The Eighteenth Trip comes at one from all kinds of uncanny angles."

"Now-Again Records is completing the trilogy started with Forge Your Own Chains and followed by Tickets for Doomsday with Pale Shades Of Grey -- another batch of rare, largely uncompiled -- and sometimes barely heard -- heavy psych-rock. Pounding drums, scathing fuzz guitar and morose, contemplative lyrics will bring you up on a downer. Pale Shades Of Grey, as the title hints, is perhaps the most contemplative of the series, heavy on ruminations of dark themes of love, death, pain and triumph, as performed by high school and college bands, Brasilian intellectuals, Nigerian rockers and even an Irish pub band from Michigan. A unique and compelling listen, and surely a worthy companion for these times. Featuring Ant Trip Ceremony, Heaven, Christophe, WITCH, Pat's People, 5 Revolutions, David Lee Jr., Joe Lano and Ed Whiting, Jose Mauro, Ton E Sergio, Ofege, and Image."

Disperú is the first independent record label in Peru and South America that was founded and run by a woman. In the space of five years Rebeca Llave turned not only Disperú into a successful company but also transformed it into an amplifier and showcase for unique Peruvian popular music projects including the raw, wild and visceral sound of Los Saicos, '60s punk pioneers. This compilation comprises 14 amazing tracks, ranging from cumbia or boogaloo to beat and garage, to celebrate the music legacy of this unique pioneer woman. Disperú was founded at a key moment for Peruvian popular music. In 1965 young Peruvians were gaining prominence in society and the entertainment industry. The hangover of the "new wave," with its balladeers, persisted on the radio and television, but rock bands were also emerging, inspired by what was happening musically in Liverpool and on the beaches of California. Guided by her ability to spot talent and target what she perceived as commercial prospects, Rebeca signed up an impressive lineup of artists. Several of which would move on to bigger labels, after "the girl with the charming smile" had set them on the recording road to fame. Besides gathering young rockers (Los Saicos, Jean Paul El Troglodita) and new wave bands (Los 4 Brillantes, Golden Boys) under its umbrella, Disperú also ventured into coastal and Andean music from Peru and tropical music (Chano Scotty y su Combo Latino, Toño y sus Sicodélicos). This compilation celebrates the music legacy of this unique pioneer woman. Also featuring Gloria Travesí Y Sus Hijos Cantan, Claudio Fabbri, Los Peruvian Brass, Los Guajiros Del Ritmo, and Alicia Estrada Y Su Orquesta.

Double LP version. Since 2008, Jazzman's Spiritual Jazz series has presented unlimited horizons. Each album celebrates the rich tradition of African-American songs based on the belief in a higher force than oneself and has also focused on geographical areas, such as Europe or Japan, thus recognizing that these territories have immense cultural riches. Religions, like Islam, whose musical traditions have vivid Arabic and North African resonances, have also been highlighted. The stylistic range of all the above is wide. Yet historic record labels, from Blue Note and Impulse! to Prestige and Steeplechase, have also featured because their catalogues are musical treasure troves that could not be more relevant to Spiritual Jazz, even though they issued vast amounts of music between the late '30s and present day, that have not been confined to any one school. Spiritual Jazz 16 is a focus on Riverside and its associated sister labels. Riverside itself was founded in 1953 by Orrin Keepnews and Bill Grauer, and became an important purveyor in that decade and beyond of what would be marketed as of modern jazz. That coinage was itself an amorphous, umbrella term that essentially created a demarcation from the vocabulary of pre-war classic jazz and inter-war big band swing, thus recognizing that improvising artists were breaking new creative ground that would subsequently give rise to a flurry of sub-genres, for example bebop, hard bop, cool, modal and Latin jazz. And it's from this multiplicity of sub-genres that Jazzman chose the deepest, most vibrant selections that the vast, pan-generational catalogue of Keepnews and Grauer has to offer. Featuring James Clay, Werner-Rosengren Swedish Jazz Quartet, Sal Nistico Quintet, Frank Strozier, Cannonball Adderley Sextet, Blue Mitchell, Sonny Red, Clifford Jordan, Lee Konitz Quintet, McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson, and Alice Coltrane.

"Ska is still the backbone of Jamaica music, Right?"--Bunny Lee

John Mayer band member and studio guru called Basso, the "ECM of chill wave," is best known for his label Growing Bin and probably even more so for the online record shop of the same name. He is one of those miraculous figures in music or record culture who can be called a true believer. Helplessly addicted to collecting music nonstop (hence Growing Bin) from all corners of the spectrum and with an uncanny knack of finding precious little diamonds, where others only assume slop, his shop features everything from original trance tapes to fake reggae and plain private press folly. Much to the pleasure of his devoted customers and even more so to the nickel nursers who use his website for window shopping and go bargain hunting in the dusty canyons and wide plains of the internet. Unfair, you might think, because knowledge like that comes with a commitment. Sitting in Trees for International Feel is a sampling demonstration of this commitment. Devotees of his previous compiling efforts Proper Sunburn (Music For Dreams) and Lucky Are Those Who Hear The Birds Sing (Growing Bin), know what to expect: some of the best songs you have never heard before, some you would probably never hear without this and even some that you did not know you would even like. Even self-proclaimed record diggers might not recognize more than "Mystery Voice" by smooth jazz new agers Dancing Fantasy. It is a world of merry music that pretty much is boundary- and genre-free and includes sunshine stepper like Beau Michael's "Move Away." Patrick Jahn's and Erobique's previously unreleased "Moonlight Shuffle" (the soundtrack to a lost Schimanski Tatort) and Christian Ch. Kneisel's impossible-to-find Balearic digi gem "Jungle Connection." All contextualized, explained and wonderfully described with meticulous liner notes by the king of record descriptions himself: Basso. Also featuring Edwin Schimscheimer, Peak Of Normal, Beau Michael, Summer Vee, and Ikee Largo.

For its second release, following SALÒ's feverish self-titled debut album, Berlin-based platform Kuboraum substantiates its musical perspective, bringing together an eccentric set of tracks from friends and family. Each artist was invited personally by the platform to write a piece of music inspired by Kuboraum's philosophical and aesthetic principles. On this first compilation, Kuboraum asks like-minded mavericks to enter into a dialog with both the brand and each other, harnessing their personal expression to paint an open-ended portrait that emphasizes the lysergic spectrum of Kuboraum's vision. Veteran producer and Planet Mu boss Mike Paradinas, operating under his μ-Ziq moniker, crafts a hypnotic, dubbed-out roller with "Never," careening from willowy dancefloor rhythms into melancholy ambience, and on the other end of the scale, Space Afrika obscure an angelic voice with evocative glitches, melancholy pads and a dissociated kick drum on "<3less." Meanwhile Moin -- the post-punk influenced project of Raime's Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead, alongside virtuoso percussionist Valentina Magaletti -- travel earthwards on "Lapsed," bending distorted, angular riffs around thuds, flutters and stifled vocal chops. Kuboraum also welcomes V/Z, with Susumu Mukai, aka Zongamin, and on "All the Rest of It," they disrupt cinematic, hauntological echoes with syrupy rhythms and spine-tingling, tape saturated sonics. Paris-based cloud rap futurist Emma DJ takes a sharp left turn, marrying flickering, neon-hued synths, tight Atlanta-inspired beats with ghostly bars, and notorious Nyege Nyege duo MC Yallah and Debmaster pull that thread even further, juxtaposing brittle, 8-bit blips with dexterous rhymes and an infectious chorus. Each track shines a laser through a different fragment of Kuboraum's vast artistic prism. The unifying force throughout is experimentation, something that's easy to hear on Ziúr's "Vacuum," two minutes of sticky, foley percussion and piercing bass, and on Quelza's undulating "Boiling Ice in Frozen Cup," that's like being trapped in an airlock as reality shifts outside. And the compilation closes with two tracks that couldn't be more different, or more fitting. Techno innovator Regis provides a dimly lit, eroticized banger with "Let Love Decide," and composer Lucy Railton plays the compilation out into the end credits, looping ornate strings, fictile electronics and breathy vocals on the fittingly baroque "Medieval Sui." Listened to as a whole, Kuboraum's debut compilation is unusually coherent, an accurate representation of the label's musical interests that paces confidently around the fringes of Berlin and beyond.
