TRAUM 280LP
|
Originally released in 2007 on CD and now re-released on double vinyl. Heimische Gefilde was the second full-length release on Traum at that time from Westerwald based DJ, producer, and park ranger, Dominik Eulberg. Dominik has since then expended his activities enormously now appearing as a book author with best-selling books in the German official bestseller list. He is the ambassador of the most popular Conservation Union in Germany NABU, he has created a bird quartet and a handmade insect hotel and appears on national German TV regularly next playing in clubs worldwide and producing stunning music. Heimische Gefilde includes spoken words by the man himself and the release won the price of the German critic awards for music. It is the only compilation that comprises a selection of Dominik Eulberg's best early works and it is for the first time available on vinyl now. As Dominik Eulberg says in his own words: "After more than 16 years, Heimische Gefilde is finally released on vinyl. At that time it was still a daring experiment to combine music with lustful science communication. Quickly one was thrown into the pot of the 'weird eco-techno sound owl'. Today, we are increasingly finding that we cannot stop the impending ecocide in a cognitive way. For more than 60 years we have known about the concrete threats to humanity from global warming and species extinction; yet nothing changes. Many alarmist efforts fail miserably, red lists grow longer and longer each year, and global temperatures continue to rise unchecked. It is becoming clearer and clearer that we have to reach out to our fellow human beings in a positive emotional way in order to make a difference, because we only protect what we love. Then sentimental minorities become majorities that change something. Art and culture are low-threshold vectors to make things majority-friendly. They are a fertile and valuable breeding ground to sensitize people outside the eco-bubble and to let their environment become a co-environment again. Today my transdisciplinary work is inseparable . . . Heimische Gefilde was a valuable cornerstone for my creative work, a very intrinsic work to go my very own way." Tracks like "Die Rotbauchunken vom Tegernsee" and "Björn Borkenkäfer" are included here in unreleased edits that are even stronger than the originals, and as a bonus, previously vinyl-only.

2020 repress. Dominik Eulberg's third EP on his Apus label features two tracks, "Abendpfauenauge" (Eyed Hawkmoth) and "Oleanderschwärmer" (Oleander Hawkmoth). "Abendpfauenauge" brings together a romantic outlook as well as a rave quality through sequentially tight-knit melodies which enable a DJ to play the tune in the club. "Oleanderschwärmer", on the contrary is a dreamy and airy 15-minute epic that is a true fascinating listening experience.

2020 repress. Dominik Eulberg's second EP on his label Apus Apus. Not allowing any objection, "Roter Gitterling" strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of the fleshy red cage of the mushroom it takes its name from. A fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. "Tintenfischpilz" is a bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom that evokes, at first glance, the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. All done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven, whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

2020 repress. Various creatures of the native flora and fauna are interpreted on Dominik Eulberg's label Apus Apus. The music pieces are thoughtfully presented with two tracks per EP. His first EP features the track "Bienenfresser" ("bee-eater") and "Blauracke" ("blue roller"). "Bienenfresser" oscillates from one color into another without losing its significant habitus. It is a musical journey through the color scheme of the bee-eater -- a collective, mobilizing anthem. The magnificent turquoise blue plumage of the blue roller are translated into worlds of sound on "Blauracke". Sparkling melodies intertwine gracefully along musical chains, and create a constant redefinition of the theme.

Dominik Eulberg has chosen three jewels that carry animal names. "Taubenblut" starts off with an excursion into massive deep baseline spheres, all dubby and minimalistic by nature. A seductive melody shines like a turning crystal while delivering simultaneously fine and deep cuts to your skin. "Falkenauge" expresses an explicit feeling of wanderlust, advocacy and longing. It is a walk through nature all picturesque and colorful and if you listen closely, the sequences seem to "talk" to you. "Katzengold" describes an atmosphere of perfect harmony with nature, no hardship, no self-destruction. Artwork by Miri D'Oro.

TRAUM 188EP
|
After eight months of playing numerous DJ gigs, setting up his studio, and plenty of bird-watching, Dominik Eulberg delivers joyous, heartwarming, and life-affirming electronic music. Eulberg has been described as a "sound sculptor" by De:Bug magazine, and as a madman by himself; he spends months turning his tracks upside-down and adding details. What sounds easygoing and light is the result of endless studio sessions. This EP's title, Spülsaum, can be translated as "drift line." The title refers to Eulberg's work as a park ranger, directing daily guided tours along drift lines in Wangerooge (Nationalparkhaus Rosenhaus, Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer).

Dominik Eulberg, of Traumschallplatten, Cocoon and Kompakt notoriety, presents the next installment of the Hertzblut Recordings EP series in the form of Backslash. The EP opens with "Opel Tantra," a delectable example of a living, breathing techno orchestra in full effect. B-side "Noch Ein Bass im Ärmel" sees plucked strings and key stabs pick out an alluring groove, as distant chimes twinkle, evoking the enchanted forest ever-present in Eulberg's thoughts.

Ein Stueckchen Urstoff reflects on the sound design Dominik Eulberg developed for his Diorama (TRAUM 024CD/137LP) album, fused with much more hedonistic force, fantasy and tons of wit to go with it. "Offenbach" brings the "collective feel" in dance music to a new level. "Die blaue Sekunde" has beats made from exploding firecrackers and melodies that rotate with brutality. "Microorgasmen im Morgentau" is a cinematic soundtrack with a DJ twist -- a moody, medieval journey.

The second part of Dominik Eulberg's Diorama remixes features some of the finest producers around, starting with Kollektiv Turmstrasse. What kicks off as a Chez Damier groove makes the transition into a loose dub monster. Another amazing remix comes from Hot Chip. Bubbling synth sounds meet the melodies of the original, resulting in a laid-back tune. There are also remixes by Extrawelt and Gabriel Ananda.

This is part 1 in a 12" remix series of tracks from Dominik Eulberg's album Diorama (TRAUM 024CD). Stephan Bodzin chose the clubbiest track on the album "Teddy Tausendtod" and transformed it into an afterhour monster. Petar Dundov remixed "Der Tanz Der Gluehwuermchen" and created a piece of music based on "Chicago trax beats" fuelled with Detroit strings. Much more on the melodic side of things is Ryan Davis' mix, who transformed "Taeuschnungs-Blume" into a soothing, Rhodes-powered, lush track.

TRAUM 137LP

2019 repress; 2LP version, featuring 8 out of the 11 tracks from the CD. This is the fourth full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger, Dominik Eulberg. After the Heimische Gefilde (TRAUM 019CD) album, which won the German critic award as the first techno album ever on which comments by the artist himself appear in spoken word, Eulberg has this time aimed at an album which embodies various facets of electronic music. Diorama therefore resembles something totally new and original and can be referred to as an affiliation towards the real "authentic" Eulberg sound cosmos. He has accomplished this with the highest possible standard and contemporary sound aesthetic. Eulberg has set the bar at an extreme height for himself and the result will pile-drive even the die-hard fans into solid, rocky soil. Eulberg has unbuttoned his "techno coat" and has come up with timeless electronica no one would have expected of him. It is his first album where he has rather played music instead of manipulating it and it holds up that skill from the very beginning to the very end, non-stop. For Diorama, Dominik Eulberg has selected, in cooperation with Germany's nature magazine NABU, the 11 greatest wonders of domestic nature, because it is not only in exotic parts of the world that one can find incredible innovations of nature -- they can also be found at your front door. Their existence is concealed from many of us and only by means of closer examination and a raised awareness for their secrets can we discover this world full of miracles. For this world of hidden wonders, a graphic diorama was specially designed, depicting a well-known world full of unknown phenomena. For each wonder, Dominik Eulberg has composed a piece of music which reflects in sound and dynamic the accounted wonder.

Dominik Eulberg is a techno artist who composes music out of classical elements such as melodies, analog synth sounds and self-made elements. Rodriquez Jr.'s mix keeps the gentle touch of the original but adds a quirky element for a super-catchy groover. Minilogue use snippets of the song to create a stream of sound. Their thrilling jam session transforms the bloomy original into a dubby style of techno that would go along neatly with the Hardwax dub outputs.

Dominik Eulberg presents two new songs on Perlmutt. "Daten Übertragungs-Küsschen" is a bittersweet melody, as fairy-like and gentle as a light snowfall. In contrast, "Schnertuppen-Regen" keeps an eye on the clubby side of things with rectangular, sawtooth sequences, dubby rhythms and back and forth sliding sequences that seem to stem from ancient string instruments and show traces of popular German folk.

Dominik Eulberg addresses senses and the feelings they trigger with Sensorika. "Aurora" is a dubby rhythm track with a dynamic build-up. House influences are strong and capture a deep, intense vibe. "Sansula (Oder Der Letzte Grund)" refers to Alfred Andersch's masterpiece, Sansibar Oder Der Letzte Grund (1957). The track is constructed from 3-dimensional, natural sounds that create an organic and deep atmosphere. There's even a sample of Gabriel Ananda swinging his golf clubs and closing the trunk of his car.

An herbarium is a collection of preserved plant specimens. On the sleeve of this 12" is a selection of Dominik Eulberg's favorite plants. Their fragile and neat features are as romantic as the tracks on this record, which are based on his finest melodic moments from his Flora & Fauna LP. "Kriechender Günsel" is a rhythmic techno groover that incorporates an Aphex Twin-like melody. "Kuckucks-Lichtnelke" is sparse and delicate, like a flower.

This is the third full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger, Dominik Eulberg, following his highly-acclaimed ode to field-recording, Heimische Gefilde. Like no one else, Eulberg combines sound and art research with solid and straight productions, attracting fans from all fields such as techno, house and even trance. The young man from the Westerwald alternates between straight-in-your-face humor and profundity, however, his secret seems to be rooted in tradition while still taking risks. Big tunes like "Bionik" or his remixes of "Geht's Noch?" and "Der Mückenschwarm" are harkened to on this release, as well as clacking electro tracks and sound research experiments. Eulberg's productions emerge from various approaches, never sounding heavy or over-produced, but also not sounding like another overly-simplistic minimal statement. Bionik is immediate and danceable -- real home-grown, friendly stuff. Similar to his DJ sets, he takes us on a journey into his world, his studio, his microcosm, and one understands why he opens up his home to us, and invites us to sit down and stay while.

This 12" comes with two remixes of Dominik Eulberg's recent hit track, "Die Grünschenkel Im Blauen Priel." One remix by 2000 And One aka Dylan Hermelijn and the other by Traum's new mega-talented duo, Super Flu. 2000 And One elevates the sequence-triggered minimal track and strips it down to a long intro containing the original sequence, slowly introducing a funky, super groove and adding small sounds... a prime time mega mover! Super Flu's remix has the quality of a great James Holden track, with a dynamic that is constantly shifting -- always alert and rocking in all situations.

This is Dominik Eulberg's 12th release on Traum. Limikolen comes with two powerful tracks which mark a change in style for the techno-naturalist. The first track is the most stripped-down techno he has recorded in years. No melodies, no fancy sounds, no baroque architectural sound-shaping. This is the original sound of techno, with twisted sequences and vocal stabs that create a massive rocking beat. The second track is a heavy beat track with a gentle movement and deep Rhodes-like piano/organ sounds -- more hypnotic and peaceful in its approach.

2012 repress, originally released 2007. This is the second full-length release from Bonn-based DJ, producer and park ranger, Dominik Eulberg. The influence of nature (bird twitters, owl hoots, flowing water, crunching leaves) and other domestic sounds has made his music easy to identify with. "Heimische gefilde" means "native habitat," and this release takes the concept of his debut a step further and at the same time is a retrospective of his major hits. Tracks like "Die Rotbauchunken vom Tegernsee" and "Björn Borkenkäfer" are included here in unreleased edits that are even stronger than the originals, and as a bonus, previously vinyl-only track "Der Alpenstrandläufer von Spiekeroog" is now included on CD for the first time. Dominik Eulberg's music is much more than just a straight bass drum enriched with samples. Heimische Gefilde fully realizes Eulberg's pledge to mend contradictory parts of a whole: every track is presented, each animal is introduced by Dominik expressed in a lyrical, almost poetic form, ala old school National Geographic narrator. The album culminates in "Stelldichein des Westerwälder Vogelchores," a track that is definitely techno, but techno that is roused to life through its protagonists: 100% birds only, with no effects or additives. The first "acoustic" techno track ever.

Originally released on the 12" Eine kleine Schmetterlings-Hommage, the remixes of "Blueten sind dem Grossen Schillerfalter fremd" bear a big surprise as they feature Adam Beyer and Renato Figoli. Adam Beyer works his way through the jungle of Dominik Eulberg's "butterfly sounds" to incorporate them in his super-strong techno production. Mr. Figoli brings sounds together and then sneaks them into stripped down, bass-driven beats. With this record two different sides of techno clash in a wonderful way.
