BARN 089EP
|
A very special autumnal presentation from FaltyDL and Studio Barnhus, in the form of a perfect little slab of 12" vinyl, exhibiting the love for the classic house sound that burns within the hearts of the prolific New York producer as well as the Swedish dance music powerhouse. In particular, "Our House Is Barnhus" honors and updates the deeper side of the French touch -- think Pépé Bradock and early St. Germain -- fully displaying the state-of-the-art production skills and emotional depth always present in Drew Lustman's music. Known for his shapeshifting sound, FaltyDL has been releasing explorative electronic music for over a decade, switching his sound up intuitively across six albums, remixes for The xx and Mount Kimbie, executive production credits for Mykki Blanco, and a multitude of singles and EPs, including two previous Studio Barnhus editions in 2021 and 2019.

Brooklyn's finest FaltyDL debuts on Studio Barnhus with two slices of lovestruck rave classicism. "Flechazo" steadily builds a shifty groove before eur(o)pting into lavish synth themes, "New Lover" gets straight to the point with razor-cut breakbeats and showstopping sub-bass. Cupid's ammo for all the deadeye deejays out there!

FaltyDL's second release on his own imprint Blueberry Records sees him going back to basics. Dancefloor bubbling track "If All The People Took Acid" jacks you directly into an updated acid soundscape. The tune also gets remix treatment from the inimitable Octo Octa, taking the acid squelching to an even higher level. "Flesh Of Acid" and "Scream Acid" are both designed to catch you off guard on the dancefloor, perhaps even terrify you. It's an energy thing, Blueberry believes clubs should be both safe and electrifying at the same time. Housed in a sleeve designed by Tom Simon.

"Designed squarely for the dance floor, the two tracks catch hold of you and never let go. 'Hardcourage' starts off ostensibly four to the floor before working in enough subtle rhythmic drive to satisfy the most ardent polyrhythmagist. Dub influences abutted with jazz swing and rave insistence, FaltyDL makes the hard work of getting you moving look easy. 'Our House Stab' continues at a similar tempo and with a melancholy feel which resolves into such a jackalicious groove that shape-making is all but guaranteed."

"Drew Lustman aka FaltyDL releases his debut EP with Ninja Tune and it's an absolute cracker. Over its four tracks he shows the range and grasp of rhythm, atmosphere and melody which have made him one of the most exciting producers in electronic music right now."

RH DC1-EP

Rush Hour kicks of its "E" series with NYC-based FaltyDL. This series is about today's electronic music in all its shapes by new and upcoming producers. FaltyDL is known for his releases on Planet Mu and Ramp. His sound shifts somewhere between hip-hop, funk, dubstep, house and techno. It's this cross-breeding that gives FaltyDL his signature sound. Four tracks that sound classic, yet futuristic at the same time -- an essential EP.
