PROFAN 038EP
|
Freiland, alongside Sog, is and was one of Wolfgang Voigt's most important projects. For his Z.O.M. mix of "Rot 2," Voigt enveloped it in an almost club-like, warm groove coat. "Rot 3," the mother of all shaffel bombs comes dressed in a gaffel mix, meaning: gabber meets schaffel (shuffle). The musical alter-ego of painter Albert Oehlen Wendy Gondeln uses aggressive, abstract violin sounds in real time for his remix of "Rot 4" while Michael Mayer's confident dancefloor-style provides insight into "Gelb 3."

"Who doesn't remember Freiland -- one of Profan's sublabels with hi-hat-free theory rock releases which could be called the unofficial successor of the studio 1 Series. Then and now worth a dancing hypothesis. Apart from the spring cleaned original version (Freiland -- 'Green'), you'll get remixes by two most bizarre landmines who must be off their rockers... Dieter Gorny, also known as managing director of a Cologne-based entertainment company, is dashing bare-assed over the frozen stubble field and even Johnny 'jackass Knoxville' would get the creeps. Finest, snotty Auftrieb stuff. As if he had invented it. But then.... Jens harke! Good old chap! Ye gods and little fishes! After several years in captivity, the artificial throat of generation Tekkkno is rising again to speak into our groan-sticky ears. This land is your land -- this land is my land -- there is only one land -- and this land is called Freiland. A fab, fat, buzzing sawtooth. Hey, two Jaegermeister, please."

FRE 001EP

Last copies in a Kompakt warehouse find, of this legendary post-Studio Eins series by Wolfgang Voigt! Originally released a few minimalist lifespans ago, in 1999. No cover or label art, just the word "Freiland" on the label and color coded (this first one is "blue"), in the same style as the Studio One series (which was 10 12"s released in the late '90s). Wolfgang has slowed down his production stream the past few years, but when these records were coming out, the guy was absolutely on top of the world -- and they remain as some of the finest "experimental techno" releases ever made. "After the legendary Studio 1 series, Mike Ink shifts his knowledge into the next step of minimalistic manipulation. Welcome Profan's new sister-label Freiland and watch the colors change..."

Fifth volume, and the last available release in this series (there were a total of 6 12"s originally). As issued in June of 1999, last copies, probably never to be repressed. "Transparent minimal/creaky and rockin' Voigt techno."
