AERA 017EP

Louis Haiman returns to Indigo Aera with The Cosmic Memory EP, featuring a remix by Marcel Dettmann. His first single here is "How Free Am I", and it is eight delicate minutes of floating ambience and subtle, stripped back rhythm. Soothing and absorbing throughout, it becomes a forceful and high pressure bit of techno in the hands of Marcel Dettmann who layers in solid kicks and clacking hits to drive things along. "Hidden Knowledge" is a slithering bit of atmospheric electro with rumbling synths and pads suspending you in deep space.

Gatefold vinyl-only release, limited to 377 copies. This album by Louis Haiman is a real journey through time. Having released two of these tracks on early Transmat compilation CDs, the other six unreleased tracks are carefully mined from Louis' archive from 15-20 years ago. Louis Haiman's music is a balance of gentle synth arrangements swimming atop a sea of low-end frequencies. Ambient soundscapes drift among layer after layer of meandering melodies while deep, syncopated rhythms and bass keep listeners grounded. A study in contrasts, his compositions are both tranquil and urgent, brought on by some of his earliest influences: Art Of Noise, Propaganda, Pet Shop Boys, Jean Luc Ponty, Depeche Mode, classic rock, and of course, early Chicago house and Detroit techno. Many years of traditional music study led him to Boston's Berklee College of Music in 1987 where he began his first electronic music experiments. Though, it wasn't until many years later in 1998, while living in New York City, did an ominous note find its way to him from none other than Derrick May and Transmat Records inviting him to collaborate. From his original work on Transmat, Louis has been able to evolve his sound and circle of friends worldwide to include releases on Fountain Music, AW Recordings, Abstract Forms, Icon Of Desire, Indigo Aera and his own digital imprint Fwdthought Music. Soul Purpose is mined from an archive of 15-20 years' worth of creativity. Mastered by Helmut Erler at Dubplates + Mastering, Berlin.
