Sometimes writing press releases is really hard. There's a certain artwork to summing up the essence of a composition to someone who hasn't yet heard the music. Thankfully, this is not the case with the latest EP from Manchester's Hidden Spheres. Tom is in his purple period -- and after nearly a decade of releasing delicately constructed songs that sit in the hinterland between dancefloor and home listening, he's finally cracked the code for creating absolute bangers, with all the class and lightness of touch present from his previous work. Hidden Spheres is in turbo mode -- and you've most likely heard these tunes without knowing it -- "Tanzen" has been a staple in Bradley Zero's set and always caused complete dancefloor destruction. Add in the Italo-flavored Paula Tape remix and you have one of the most exciting dancefloor propositions of 2023. Back in 2015, Mancunian DJ and producer Hidden Spheres aka Tom Harris joined the Rhythm Section family for the label's twelfth release. Storming into 2022 and approaching 50 releases, Tom has a long overdue return to the label with a synthesis of electronic house vibrations. You Are Not Your Body is a stellar collection of five tracks, which touch on the sensations of euphoria and the blissed-out intersection between early prog and Detroit House. Channeling energies for meditation and self-love, things kick off with "Improvisation" an electro infused eight-minute workout, whilst "Euan 92" is a festival-defining "hands-in-the-air" anthem tried and tested by Bradley Zero on the road throughout 2021. "Love Your Body" is a delightful disco-esque chugger reinforcing joyful energies and an infectious bassline to keep you wiggling on the dancefloor. Things come to a close with a spaced-out Balearic house remix by RS family favorite Ruf Dug. Hidden Spheres is the alter ego of Manchester's Tom Harris, who first made his mark on the underground circuit with his release The Bloos on Moods & Grooves, before following it up with the much in demand Waiting on Lobster Theremin offshoot, Distant Hawaii. Here, Tom joins the Scissor & Thread family, the Brooklyn label founded by Francis Harris, and home to music that traverses a number of boundaries. Hidden Spheres fits right in -- the five-track 1985 EP blends house, broken beat, ambient, jazz, and other elements into a heady brew. "King Tut" starts proceedings, a laidback jazzy groove, rich in textures and soulful flourishes. "My Names" touches on the UK broken beat legacy of 4 Hero and Bugz in the Attic -- an off-kilter groove layered with sweet jazz and house inflected licks. "Karl" is a much more direct dancefloor track, albeit with the deepness that we expect from Hidden Spheres. The penultimate track "1985" steps into the unconventional house vibes of Detroit's third wave. "Soon We'll" finishes up the EP -- a supremely jazzy piece built around the sax, piano and washes of strings, and ambient elements -- a superb closer for a deep and heartfelt release.
