MIDNIGHT 009LP

Marlon Hoffstadt's debut album, Planet Love, marks the ninth release on his label since its launch in 2017. Having established his signature sound over the years, navigating through feelings from house, disco, trance, and Euro-dance, Planet Love showcases these sensibilities in an album format. While he seemed to not take himself too seriously throughout his past releases, naming records Ready For Take Hoff (MIDNIGHT 007EP, 2019) and Der Hoffmaster, Marlon now touches on a topic which, over time became increasingly serious and important to him. Having dealt with anxiety and panic attacks in the past, he developed his very own mantra, which one could already see in projects such as his phone-free Savour The Moment events at Berlin's Renate. "Be kind. Be humble. Take care. Give love. Because only love will set you free". This simple but powerful mantra, which kicks off this album, is not only his own guide through insecurity and fears that he faces in his life as a musician, father, student, and promoter. More than that, it is a reminder that true success is not defined by heavy touring, big money, and fame. Instead, being successful means to be kind and caring towards yourself, your fellow humans, and the environment; most importantly love is stronger than anything else. Features artwork from Hermann Reimer, Ewige Gärtner.

After several records on Ransom Note, Rawax and his own Midnight Themes imprint in 2018, Marlon Hoffstadt continues his steady outcome with Ready For Take Hoff, his second EP this year. Initially only produced for his sets and the dance floors of his Savour The Moment event series at Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Ready For Take Hoff showcases Marlon's enthusiasm for trancey and mellow vibes. Somewhere in between techno, disco, trance, and proto house this EP includes everything one can expect from Marlon's DJ sets right now.

Dub and acid are the words as Marlon Hoffstadt goes deep on Simple Communication the sixth EP in his Midnight Themes series. The Berlin producer starts 2019 with three tracks that fly the flag for his current sound: deep, dubby, and subtly euphoric. "Take A Moment" is a finely tuned piece of weighty dubbed-out techno with whiffs of vintage pool parties and a lonely acid line. "Action And Reaction" harks back to the '90s, rolling out waves of pads, and melodies that ascend and descend. The 11-minute, two-act play of "Eye Contact" closes on a blissed-out note.

Retrograde co-founder Marlon Hoffstadt pairs up with Paris Brightledge for Shattered. Berlin based DJ and producer Marlon Hoffstadt continues his upwards trajectory, once again enlisting the services of legendary Chicago vocalist Paris Brightledge. The original mix of "Shattered" delivers a raw, experimental house feel via broken drums breaks, sweeping synth chords and acidic bass chops. An "Instrumental" mix of "Shattered" follows, shining light on the swinging breaks and emotive string melodies. "Elevate" sees Hoffstadt fuse weighty drums and ethereal pad swells with arpeggio synth leads and subtly unfolding intricacies.

Marlon Hoffstadt drops Coach Mike, featuring remixes from Massimiliano Pagliara and The Friend. The title track starts as a grooving acid-based cut peppered with percussion before building suspense to a surprising yet satisfying breakdown. Pagliara's rework of the title track is a Balearic-tinged affair; starting with a solid drum and building to a crescendo of bass, pads and synths, along with the analog synth elements. "Broncos" is a club track created for the floor. An acid bassline sits alongside industrial elements and stabbing synths. The Friend's interpretation is down-tempo techno distortion at its best.
