Retrograde co-founder Marlon Hoffstadt pairs up with Paris Brightledge for Shattered. Berlin based DJ and producer Marlon Hoffstadt continues his upwards trajectory, once again enlisting the services of legendary Chicago vocalist Paris Brightledge. The original mix of "Shattered" delivers a raw, experimental house feel via broken drums breaks, sweeping synth chords and acidic bass chops. An "Instrumental" mix of "Shattered" follows, shining light on the swinging breaks and emotive string melodies. "Elevate" sees Hoffstadt fuse weighty drums and ethereal pad swells with arpeggio synth leads and subtly unfolding intricacies.

Retrograde marks its fifth release with a various artists release, In Reverse Pt.1. Matteo Luis's "Out Here" sets the tone with ethereal pad swells, organic rhythms and choppy bass hits. Natureboy Gold's "Eternal" follows and employs a similarly airy synth feel while introducing a robust tom-driven rhythmic approach to create an understated dancefloor focused contribution. Terron's contribution drops the tempo to a low-slung feel with dubbed-out bass licks, bumpy percussion and spiraling bass drones to create something idiosyncratic and psychedelic. Marlon Hoffstadt delivers a raw energetic workout with soaring '80s tinged leads, snaking bass grooves and frenetic percussion.

Marlon Hoffstadt drops Coach Mike, featuring remixes from Massimiliano Pagliara and The Friend. The title track starts as a grooving acid-based cut peppered with percussion before building suspense to a surprising yet satisfying breakdown. Pagliara's rework of the title track is a Balearic-tinged affair; starting with a solid drum and building to a crescendo of bass, pads and synths, along with the analog synth elements. "Broncos" is a club track created for the floor. An acid bassline sits alongside industrial elements and stabbing synths. The Friend's interpretation is down-tempo techno distortion at its best. Untitled emerges as a moody four tracker born in Matteo Luis' home studio. The title track heads for the climax in manner of a cyclone, a straight stomper that evolves its full strength within its last solution. "Yucca" has those smooth chords in the back that are dramatically charged, sexy and slow. "Impulse" is Matteo in full effect. Bouncy and moody at the same time, it captures the EP's dub influence perfectly. The track is also remixed by Benedikt Frey for the final track. Full cover artwork by Hermann Reimer.

135-gram 12". Berlin-based producer Marlon Hoffstadt presents his first release on his Retrograde label, founded with Natureboy Gold. Smile is a collaboration with Chicago house music icon and pioneer Paris Brightledge, who has been active since 1987 with releases on substantial labels such as D.J. International Records. "Smile" combines Hoffstadt's smooth production with Paris Brightledge's ability to hypnotize the dancefloor with his unique voice. Detroit's Kris Wadsworth remixes "Smile" with some "pretty nasty analog stuff." "Lies" is a percussion-driven, 303-based club workout. Matteo Luis remixes it into a more synth-heavy version. 135-gram 12". Marlon Hoffstadt and Goldberg inaugurate their Retrograde label with Won't Cry by Cologne natives Lo & Matteo Luis, released in advance of the duo's debut album. "Won't Cry" is a warm, atmospheric work from the pair's archives, sure to induce a dreamy state with Matteo's deeply driven signature sound and Lo's lyrics. Hoffstadt delivers a drifty and impulsive close-to-the-floor interpretation, label friend Johnjon turns in a gleaming remix with percussive sequence sounds and a deeper touch, and Tuff City Kids (Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer) present an ingeniously constructed rework. Artwork by Berlin-based surrealist Hermann Reimer.
