After growing up in a record store, developing the sound of Mo's Ferry Prod. and launching his own label Clap Your Hands, Marcel Knopf is big in business, now. So it was time to spent some hours in the studio again in between all his touring through Germany. Club-smasher "Command" blows some ears away and "Ain't Love" is typical Knopf oldschool frickel-house.

Marcel Knopf is stylistically diversified when it comes to the selection of remixers for his debut album, Dusty Dance (MFP 046). Gregor Tresher, Luna City Express and Jeff Samuel are definitely away on different fields. Nevertheless, you will find HOUSE written on the drawer, if you want to open it. Tresher really dusts on his version, Luna City Express release "Rec-chord" from its melodic chord parts and concentrate on the groove and vocals, and Samuel plays with "Rec-chord" on a grooving playground.

This is the debut full-length album by Berlin's Marcel Knopf. After his enchantingly kicking Dusty Dance/Rec- Chord single, Marcel Knopf presents his whole musical world and how his heart beats in it in 2009. In an interview regarding the release of his first mix CD Bits To Phono Mix in 2006, he announced: "Minimal is super, but maybe not sexy in the long run!" However, instead of augmenting minimalism with house sounds and tribal or Latin influences, Knopf prefers to focus on a straight funkiness taken from the most treasured moments of house and techno without making his tracks overly romantic or misty-eyed. Sure he digs in deeply, but what matters to him is a seductive dance music that will work today and tomorrow. Revival and recurrence -- he has everything under control and works with classic essences within a modern narrative of electronic dance music, whose evolution has lasted for over 20 years now. Thanks to his interest in diverse electronic sounds, this album is perfectly-produced, with an unexpected capriciousness and genre-overlapping consciousness that is self-confident and innovative. There is a deep, dry crispness to this work that is made for strobe-light, rather than candle-light. Featuring guest appearances by Camara and Padberg.

This is a taste of Marcel Knopf's first full-length on Mo's Ferry, and it fully illustrates the DJ's amazing versatility. These tracks move between smart techno and house, pointing out that Knopf doesn't want to be bound to one musical direction. "Dusty Dance" is a floor-filler with an enthralling groove, a monster break and a hook, where any bias against trumpets in the club is blown away. "Rec-Chord" is an old-school, frickling house track that absolutely sizzles on vinyl.
