Taken from the movie Le Bel Été, written and directed by Pierre Creton, this new album from The Limiñanas is the first OST written by Lionel Limiñanas. The main theme "One Blood Circle" features French pop legend, Etienne Daho. Lionel Limiñana about writing this soundtrack: "We met Pierre during the Shadow People tour, he came to the concert and wrote to us asking for music for his film Le Bel Été. Pierre sent me the script. I thought I didn't have time to work because of the tour but I took a three-day break to give it a try. I wrote a theme and then two, three... I had a work base and I was able to continue at the hotel or in the band's van, which explains why the music is very electronic. I invited Ivan Telefunken, Pascal Comelade's Catalan guitarist, to play on some melodies. When we arrived in St Malo for La Route du Rock Festival we met Etienne Daho with whom we had wanted to work for a long time. We played the script to Etienne and the demo of 'One Blood Circle', the main theme of Le Bel Été. Etienne worked on the text and quickly returned to the studio in Paris to record his voice and choirs. The O.S.T. was done." 12" white vinyl in sleeve with 3mm spine with paper inner-sleeve.

"What was old is new again" ... The old adage is so tired that nobody takes its proper measure: all people hear is the word "old", when the important one is "new". Making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. The proof is in The Limiñanas's fifth album -- no rest for the wicked of Perpignan -- which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests. After the opener, "Ouverture", with its almost surf-like guitars, comes "Le Premier Jour", where Lionel Limiñana talks about his rock baptism with the punks, the mods, the skinheads, and the Lambrettas of his youth in the South of France. What comes just after is the seismic shock of "Istanbul Is Sleepy": the Imprimatur of Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is simply enormous. Then comes Emmanuelles Seigner's super sexy tornado on the title track; and "Dimanche" follows, with Bertrand Belin. Lionel sees him as a "French Nick Cave who writes songs that resemble films." "The Gift" features Peter Hook who scrapes his bass guitar again here; obviously a song reminiscent of an early period New Order. Finally, the Limiñanas on their own send out an instrumental cavalcade with a furious beat, like a kraut Morricone, "Motorizzati Marie" followed by "Pink Flamingos", introduced with psych rock pads played backwards forming a vaporous song bathed in acoustic arpeggios. A respite in the album... before the fuzz and the abyssal bass of "Trois Bancs" violently shakes the ghost of Gainsbourg: an electroshock in talk over. And to close the scene, a love message: "De La Part Des Copains"; its organ, its tambourine, its quaver, and its brass place it in the classic soundtrack category revered by the band. An ideal conclusion for this incredible, faultless record. The rock n' roll epiphany thus continues. It belongs to those who will listen -- full blast -- to Shadow People and will doubtless feel the urge to plug a guitar into an amp. A valve amp, of course. CD version comes in three-panel digipocket with spot varnish; Includes poster booklet.

French psych duo The Limiñanas present Istanbul Is Sleepy. Reflecting on their collaboration with Anton Newcombe, Lionel explains, "Anton is singing and playing guitar on the track. He was inspired, in particular, by The Cult during their 'Rain' period. Last year, Mojo magazine asked us to record a cover for a special Kinks tribute. We chose 'Two Sisters'. Marie and I were thinking for the vocal part it would be great to approach Anton Newcombe, having opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre at Le Trianon in Paris. The work began like that." RIYL: Serge Gainsbourg, Brigitte Bardot, France. Also features Emmanuelle Seigner.

"By now this Perpignan band is less of a shadowy illusion and more of a full-on force of French underground sounds, and we couldn't be happier to being a part in helping perpetuate this fully-blossoming evolution. HoZac had the honor of releasing the debut single from The Liminanas in early 2010, featuring their most enduring song 'I'm Dead' as well as their Crystal Anis LP a few years after, and in a short amount of time, they've laid the foundation of darkness delicately into their hazy template of swirling, mind-expanding soliloquies for all to see, hear, and feel. As time has passed, the band has expanded and contracted with whatever size ensemble worked best at the time, still rotating around the core members Marie and Lio, but switching out lead vocalists and backup members until they found the right fit. Their newest incarnation features the duo with a full band, much like you'd see onstage when they play live, keeping those delicate nuances in top form, and allowing Marie and Lio to steer this vessel straight into your pleasure zones. 'On their new LP Malamore, they keep their lyrics mostly in English, yet their sly use of the French dialect is pure heaven to any fans of Serge Gainsbourg who also enjoy their side of Velvet Underground, and it's a deadly combo to the uninitiated, to say the least. The breathy vocals inflected over the sublime feedback and fuzz coalesce into the perfect soundtrack to this utopian atmosphere, never quite reaching out fully from beyond their ethereal mist, yet grasping you firmly and pulling you into their lair where the senses are blurred into a living, breathing, embodiment of modern French noir perfection. And as if their own creative construction wasn't already sturdy enough this time around, Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order/Warsaw/Stiff Kittens) has even stepped up to offer his bass contribution on the track 'Garden of Love,' which shimmers with other-worldly undulations and lifts the band even higher in reverence, a remarkable collaboration and a certain breakthrough, undoubtedly. Your time to indulge has come, and The Liminanas have really struck gold yet again with Malamore their latest high water mark in effortless French pop perfection, served cold, dark, and fresh." --VictimofTime.com.

Following Malamore (2016), French duo The Limiñanas have trusted London DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall to remix "Garden Of Love" featuring Peter Hook. "When we released Je Ne Suis Pas Très Drogue in 2009, Andrew played it in his radio show in London. Then Bernie Fabre contacted me because Andrew wanted us to play in his festival De La City A La Cité in Carcassone. When we worked with Peter Hook, the idea of a maxi with one or two remixes made sense." -- Lionel Limiñana.

COUGOUYOU 003EP
|
Two brand new and exclusive tracks by The Limiñanas. Getting their start in October of 2009, The Limiñanas are the brainchild of Lio and Marie Limiñana. Beginning as a home studio project the duo spent much time flipping through John Barry and Ennio Morricone LPs and books on Victorian era architecture, watching Noir films, and basking in the sun of Southern France seeking inspiration. It's been noted that there are traces of Serge Gainsbourg, Beck, Stereolab, gospel, guitar fuzz freak-outs, and Nuggets-era stompers in the Limiñanas music. All of which may be true, but Limiñanas's sound is irreverent and singular.
