"First reissue on 7" of the super rare killer single by The Pioneers. The Pioneers were formed in 1962 by two brothers Derrick and Sidney Crooks and their friend Winston Hewitt, later replaced by former Heptone Glen Adams. The Pioneers' early singles were not successful, and the group broke up in 1967. Sydney started working at Joe Gibbs shop and then in the studio where he met a talented new young singer: Jackie Robinson. The new Pioneers were reborn as a duo. They recorded several successful singles such as 'Longshot' 'Jackpot', and 'Catch the Beat' with Gibbs before joining producer Leslie Kong where they recorded 'Samfie Man' which topped the Jamaican charts. They then recruited George Agard and became a trio again. They scored in the charts again with 'Long Shot (Kick De Bucket)' a sequel to 'Long Shot', the tragic story of a race horse that never won and died racing! 'Kick De Bucket' became an instant hit both in Jamaican and in the U.K. particularly among skinheads in 1969. More hits followed and the band moved to the U.K. in 1970. Over time, their sound changed and became more sophisticated and pop and they eventually recorded soul albums with Eddy Grant as a producer in 1976, which were not successful, and the band split. They have been performing sporadically since then. This is the first re-release on 7" of this super rare killer single by The Pioneers released in 1968 on Amalgamated Records in Jamaica and on Doctor Bird in the U.K. Both tracks have never been reissued until now. Super rare and super good. Only 500 copies pressed in this edition

"The Sixties were a golden age for Jamaican vocal trios. During the latter half of this incredibly creative decade, a multitude of harmony groups made their mark on the island's music scene, but of these only a relative few possessed the talent and determination to endure beyond the rock steady era. One trio that not only succeeded, but blossomed following the onset of reggae, is The Pioneers, who in 1969 became one of the first Jamaican acts to achieve international success with their UK hit, 'Long Shot (Kick De Bucket)'. The success of the single was swiftly followed by what became one of Trojan's biggest selling long players of all time, the aptly titled Long Shot. Showcasing a dozen of the group's best-known works to date for one of reggae's earliest and most successful producers Leslie Kong, the LP features a number of Jamaican hits, including 'Samfie Man' and 'Black Bud', as well as the best-selling title track. Long Shot is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on translucent magenta colored vinyl."

"Two of the most popular original Trojan albums of the boss reggae era. The Battle Of The Giants LP makes its CD debut. Features rare and previously unissued bonus tracks. Includes major UK chart hit, /Long Shot Kick De Bucket'. Among the first reggae hits to pierce the UK pop chart in 1969, 'Long Shot Kick De Bucket' made global stars of the Pioneers and led to Trojan Records swiftly releasing the trio's Long Shot LP, towards the close of the year. The album became a best-seller for the company, with the group's popularity in the UK prompting a follow-up collection, Battle Of The Giants, which hit the record shops the following year. Now, both of these popular Leslie Kong-produced LPs are brought together to form the basis of this collection, with the Battle Of The Giants set making its CD debut. And with the release further bolstered by seven rare and previously unissued bonus tracks, this collection not only gathers the very best of the Pioneers' recordings for noted Jamaican producer, Leslie Kong, it also features some of the most popular recordings from the boss reggae era."
