CHEAP 005CD
|
Second full length from Gerhard Potuznik of Austria (following his Amore Motore (...Autobahn) CD on Mego). "Credited to (artist) Potuznik but actually a collection of often disorienting & completely disparate elements produced/conceived by Gerhard Potuznik (Mego, GiGuptight, Cheap) and Ramon Bauer (Mego's General Magic & 1/2 of Rehberg & Bauer) and carried out by the likes of Max Goldt, Florian Hecker, Patrick Pulsinger (iO, Sluts & Strings), Peter Rehberg (Pita, other 1/2 of Rehberg & Bauer), Hans Platzgumer (HP Zinker, records on Disko B), and Potuznik/Bauer themselves. The results are nothing short of mesmerizing; short segments of abstract spoken context w/'mood' laced between varying heavy drones, digital electro, INA-GRM style acousmatics, post-rock style layerings, video-game FX, deep old-school cologne thump, gated hip-hop, and at least one pop song. Brilliant stuff, clear ringer for 'record of the year' glory and miles away from previous Mego-related digital-error themes. Great." -- Hrvatski.

MEGO 011CD

Long delayed (says 1996 but released mid-'98) album, jewel box edition. Great minimal techno, but less click-obsessed abstraction that you might associate with the label. "Gerhard Potuznik is probably best known for his minimal techno grooves that he produces for respected labels such as Cheap and Pomelo. He is also a member of Austrian absurdists Mause and the supergroup Private Lightning Six. For his MEGO debut, he delivers ten excursions of funky to lo-fi electronica dedicated to the cult of driving. Yet another electronic road tribute, you may cry???? Yes, yet another. Take the wheel of the world and drive as they used to say."
