A double vinyl compilation that perfectly captures Pulshar's sound: an elegant mixture of dub, techno, R&B, and ambient. Contains 12 tracks previously unreleased on vinyl. This release was certainly not meant to be a "Best of" compilation but it is a collection of special moments that Sergio and Pablo wanted to capture and share on one definitive release. This is an opportunity to look back on Pulshar's career in a retrospective and reflect about how their background and influences have led to the complete sound of the act. Umbra/Lux (title based on their production technique that naturally blends dark and light aesthetics) contains 17 tracks that traverse the gamut of their sound with an impeccable level of quality. "A crossover sound that the deepest electronic heads and mainstream music fans can equally enjoy. The energy in their music is universal, and moves all who are exposed to it. One of my all-time favorites" --Rod Modell (Deepchord/Echospace). "Music that came from some intimate and deeply ethereal place that effortlessly bridged the gap between the dance floor and the home-listening environment. Pulshar is a unique dub-heavy, soulful, psychedelic journey." --Vladimir Ivkovic

DESOLAT 007CD

Pulshar return to Desolat with another stunning long player filled with a selection of sumptuous productions that further demonstrate their grasp over intimate and deeply ethereal electronic music. The Barcelona-based duo of Pablo Bolivar and Sergio Sainz Vidal have cemented the Pulshar name and reputation as a proponent of dub-heavy, soulful, and, at times, psychedelic electronic music. Their first Desolat long player Inside received critical acclaim and effortlessly bridged the gap between the dancefloor and the home listening environment. They returned to Desolat in 2013 with the deliciously deep and trippy EP Different Drum, and now continue their relationship with the label with Blood and Mathematics. Pulshar maintain their affair with electro, instrumental hip-hop, dub, and psychedelia, distilling these to create a distinctive and soulful brand of electronic music. The new long player represents where the artists are in 2014: all the tracks are written and produced by them, with only one guest appearance: Guti as a featured artist on "Running Away." Blood and Mathematics offers a traditional album experience in which one track effortlessly segues into the next, taking the listener through a range of emotions across the record. Perfectly timed for when the days begin to draw to a close, Blood and Mathematics is a contemporary electronic music listening experience that will be revisited again and again. CD version arrives in a digipak with a download code for the instrumentals.

DESOLAT 003CD
|
This the first release on Desolat for Spain's Pulshar, who are emerging as true musical heavyweights, with compositions that traverse the borderlands between spacious song-craft and the futuristic outer-reaches of the dub-techno universe. After receiving widespread critical acclaim for his various solo projects and remixes in 2009, Inside sees Pablo Bolivar reunited with the tender tenor tones of Aphro Sainz. On tracks like "Da Creator" and "Montparnasse 2am," an easy house groove takes its time rolling out languidly, while mild melancholia, sample stabs and outer-space delays hark back to the heyday of On-U: a synthetic interpretation of King Tubby's legacy that would sparkle in the early hours at a tech-house beach party. "Montparnasse 2am" incorporates eerie soundtrack fragments that explicate the duo's love of classic cinema, and the penultimate track, "Above The Wall" provides another filmic fragment: with surf guitar twangs atop a blissful doo-wop haze. A little magic goes a long way, and the light shines bright on some of the more pop-filtered tunes, such as the whistling nuance of "United States Of Pulshar." With its plaintive, optimistic melody repeated like a hip-hop sample and burbling synth touches, it could stand as a manifesto for the project. "California State Of Mind" lassoes elements of today's West Coast beats scene and the synth-funk that preceded it, adding a tuneful dubby touch and letting everything melt together, while "S.T.A.R.S". and "Distant Fire" incorporate post-garage patterns and weighty bass, showing the full arc of dub's development. The two pay respect to their dub forefathers in a more literal manner on cleanly-polished gems like "Empty Suitcase" and "Stepping Stones," a collaboration between Pulshar and Roberto Sanchez, who is a leading figure in the European roots reggae scene. Pulshar encompass the world of reggae influences and incorporate everything in their own distinctive, forward-looking style.

PHONOBOX 007EP
|
Last remix single taken from Pulshar's Brotherhood (PHONOBOX 001CD) album, featuring 2 new takes on the amazing "Mantistyle." Deep's Edayar's remix is sonorous deep house with a dub/techno growl at its core. Sistema's intriguing mix blends a big '80s electro-drum sound, acid synth pads and melodic licks. Pulshar themselves include a brand-new track "Sacrifice Of Love" -- a new fusion of dubby atmospheres and chilled pop beats. Their dub-infused rhythms meets minimal house on the Even Tuell edit.

This is the debut full-length release by Spain's Pulshar -- a band formed by Pablo Bolivar, renowned electronic composer with an extensive discography, and Aphro Sainz, graphic designer, "loop digger" and ex-vocalist of the dub and reggae bands Better Collie and Loud and Lone. Hypnotic and deep soundscapes, a bass line full of soul and sensuality, contemporary ambient-dub -- highly-addictive music from the very first listen. Pulshar are influenced by hip-hop and blues, dub reggae and psychedelic rock, demonstrating exquisite taste playing with loops and samplers, and great skill in creating distinctive, catchy, melodic rhythms. The music and voice of Pulshar is unique. Layers of evolving sounds and rich ancestral textures take us on a journey where space and time become intertwined and confused. Brotherhood is a collection of 10 outstanding tracks that combine deep soul and old classy dub with some space-tech elements. Influenced by the sounds of artists like Scientist, Paul St. Hilaire, Lee Perry, Al Green, Rhythm & Sound, etc. Pulshar is modern dub with a hidden touch of Detroit-tech and a nod towards Basic Channel, Studio One, Maurizio, Burial Mix and Chain Reaction, as well as being clearly connected to the actual dubstep scene, led by geniuses like Burial and Kode9. This is rich, electronic music soundtracking a journey through time and space, where we find a parallel between the origin of the earth and an unpredictable future. Pulshar builds a bridge between these two opposites; as reflected in the artwork, taking us to the past to develop a futuristic sound.
