CADENZA 110EP
|
Philippe Quenum returns to Cadenza with Solitaire. Solitaire finds Quenum in fine form; on the lead track, dubby FX and bass shaking shots roll out over an urgent disco beat, muted brass and technoid stabs fire from all directions as the tension building pads flourish. Shadowy forces are at play on "Mystic"; discordant sounds echo and bellow over reverberating percussion and a dense back beat that fire into life with shuffling hi-hats. Wrapping up this welcome return to the label is "Mystery"; whipping snares and industrial clangs rumble over the urgent drums for more hypnotizing dancefloor work from Philippe.

UY 098EP
|
Geneva-based artist, DJ, and producer Quenum follows his 2013 Upon. You debut, Rhyme (UY 073EP), with Trouble. "Colour Pulp" fuses an uncompressing yet minimalistic, hard-pumping tech-house foundation, tripping vocal bits, and a highly percussive build-up, perfect for late-night abuse. "Trouble" also relies on Quenum's trademark rolling minimalism and obscured, morphing, ethereal voices, but adds quirky synths and a steamy, feverish feel. "Geneve Never Sleeps" speeds up things on a darker, more technoid level; muffled bass drums meet scattered, futuristic percussion before shrieking stabs and ghostly sounds take over and the unstoppable techno engine starts to run. Proper machine music; pure energy.

The Swiss techno veteran Quenum presents one about sex. "Zone Erogene" features a soft voice that salaciously whispers into your ear, while "Pornflake" will set your hormone bells ringing. Finally, the cuddling phase of the digital market is definitely over when the leash comes off on "Surealizm." Track "Intimate Immensity" will only be available on vinyl.

Quenum, you guys! He's back and back for good! "Nude B Runner," the title track, comes in full effects, a stunning yet simple bass line-driven monster tune. Eternal groove and raw elements make this track a party monster, for sure. On the flip, the godfather of electronics, Ripperton, cooks his very own version of "Nude B Runner." Once again proving, as if it was a necessity, his monstrously great talent at the remixing controls. 119 carats per minute.

ORAC 025EP
|
Philippe Quenum's debut release on the Orac label reaches out with two radical tracks of expansive, sinuous techno. "Acalanto" starts with an infectious samba groove punctuated by tight little vocal shouts and "Glasgow" gets deep, with a dream-like chant and a thick, synthetic pulse. This release is dancefloor stuff.
