"Founded in 1992 after Robin Storey left Zoviet France, Rapoon soon became an outstanding ethno-dark ambient project that has gained a cult following all over the world. More than 80 albums have been released over those nearly 30 years, some more beat driven, others more playful and with ambient sounds and ethnic influences. Rapoon has never stopped evolving -- think of Cultural Forgeries, an album full of unplugged acoustic music. Or Downgliding, full of compositions on the piano. Recent Klanggalerie albums include Waiting by the River, an album that introduced vocals to the Rapoon sound, or Little Rocket Man which was inspired by the political situation in 2018 with Trump as president in the United States. Moka Efti is the fictional name of a night club in the series Babylon Berlin. Set in the decadence and turmoil of the 1920s the series incorporates real historical events into an imaginary narrative. This set of recordings is a modern take on that era set in the declining West of 2024. Tracks vary wildly but are all unified within the same setting. An aural cabaret of sounds that depict and define a certain moment. A moment that has already existed in the past, exists in the present and will exist in the future, varying only slightly in time and space, the expressions are the same in intent and purpose. Moka 24 is an escapist world existing outside of the prevailing social clamor. Not in rebellion against the contemporary more, but rather ignoring it."

"Klanggalerie are very happy to announce a new collaboration with Rapoon after a far too long 12 year break. Waiting By The River is the all-new album by Robin Storey that takes the project into previously uncharted territory. Founded in 1992 after Storey left Zoviet France, Rapoon soon became an outstanding ethno-dark ambient project that has gained a cult following all over the world. More than 50 albums have been released over those 25 years, some more beat driven, others more playful and with ambient sounds and ethnic influences. Rapoon has never stopped evolving - think of Cultural Forgeries, an album full of unplugged acoustic music. Or Downgliding, full of compositions on the piano. In 2016, Rapoon presents an album full of songs. You will hear guitars, vocals, stories are being told. A very different approach to Rapoon and one you've never heard before. Needless to say, the trademark Rapoon sound is still there. But this time you get a little extra. Another milestone in the band's discography."

"Rapoon is the ethno-ambient solo project of Zoviet France co-founder Robin Storey. The music of Rapoon reflects the fascination for the minimalistic but rhythmic music of West-Africa and India. Rapoon uses the musical construction techniques of loops and rhythmic repetition as a kind of platform for inducing a sort of trance like reception. The tracks chosen on this box-set are taken directly from the original 4 track cassettes. These recordings are sometimes copies of complete mixes that found their way onto released albums, sometimes sub-mixes and parts of mixes, and sometimes elements that were never used in any released material. Working with multiple 4track machines which remained non-synchronised, these are the re-discovered compositions which have remained hidden until now."

"Improvisational, acoustic, electronic, and artfully arranged, the music of Rapoon is the auditory manifestation of impressionism. Robin Storey paints his songs with small details and fleeting impressions that evoke a mood or place in the listener's imagination. Stray opens with a simple recording of a women's choir, then in the next two tracks Storey transforms and transmutes the voices, adding pastel tones and rough shadows until the original canvas has been completely repainted. The fourth piece sprinkles tropical songbirds over distant drones and off-world rhythms, moving east until again, after two more songs, an entirely different atmosphere has emerged. The last three songs take up half of the album, and include two long pieces that comprise entire worlds unto themselves, from bedrock to mountaintop. Transitory, ephemeral clouds of sound flow down imaginary frozen canyons, pouring across weathered rocks and running to windswept shores, carrying sand, pollen and promises of spring's renewal. Taken together, the nine songs on Stray are as gorgeous as they are oblique and engaging. Stray is presented in lavishly printed CD slipcase and folder with vellum overwrap. In a world of generic music sold in dull packaging, the exquisite cover created for this CD makes it an object to treasure, yet it is typical of the high standards of Soleilmoon. This edition of Stray is limited to 333 copies."

"Melancholic Songs of the Desert is Rapoon's first new release for Soleilmoon since the Alien Glyph Morphology tryptich (DVD, 2x 10 inch, CD) released between 2005 and 2008. It's presented in a hand made, screen printed folder and is limited to 500 copies." "These songs were composed during the last days of the Bush/Blair era and reflect the feeling of isolation and disconnection from any part of the political process and any sense of identification with the prevailing air of hostility and intolerance generated by this pair of religious xenophobes. The unjustified war in Iraq and the subsequent lies and propaganda engendered a feeling of revulsion and powerlessness. Once again it was 'unpatriotic' to criticize or protest against the government's actions, and there was a rise in nationalism and extremist views. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and meditative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of 'walkabout' and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. In a broader sense they also re-affirm long held sympathies with the thoughts of writers and philosophers such as Camus, Sartre and Burroughs, and the profound wisdom of eastern philosophies such as Taoism and Zen. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation." -- Robin Story

"Starting in 2005 with a DVD that came with 20 large Tarot-style postcards, and continuing in 2006 with a double 10" LP presented in an elaborately-decorated wooden cover, Rapoon returns with the final chapter of his Alien Glyph Morpholgy tryptich, a limited edition CD presented in a hand-made tiger-print folder. As with nearly every Soleilmoon release, this CD is a collectable art object, and indeed, like snowflakes, no two are exactly the same. Compared with the vinyl edition, two tracks are extended in length, and a previously unavailable song, 'Condensed Nightmares' has been added as a bonus track. These days nearly all compositions are subconsciously referenced to the length of the average CD, but the vinyl version of Alien Glyph Morphology has been edited with the time frame of a vinyl record in mind. Play it on a record deck and it will sound different because of the nature of the medium. When I heard again the sounds coming from the old record deck and the vinyl out in the garage, I immediately started making samples to manipulate and incorporate in future compositions. The sound of vinyl is inspiring." --Robin Storey

"Following the release of his DVD Alien Glyph Morphology, Rapoon returns with a limited edition double 10" album of musical compositions remixed from the films especially for this release. Continuing to confound its competitors and bankrupt its customers, Soleilmoon presents the vinyl edition of Alien Glyph Morphology in an over-the-top hand-made wooden cover, decorated with elephants, mirrors and alien glyphs, the latter rendered in twine, and all silkscreened in nine glorious colours by master craftsmen in our secret workshop in the ancient and holy city of Varanasi, India. It is truly a wonder to behold. "Robin Storey, better known as Rapoon, is well known in ambient music circles for his extensive catalog of recordings, presently exceeding 40 albums, singles and collaborative projects released over the last 13 years. But Rapoon has always stood for more than music. The visual arts have been important to Storey since before his early days as a founding member of Zoviet France. His paintings have graced many of the album covers for both Rapoon and Zoviet France, to great acclaim, but until today his filmmaking has taken place in comparative obscurity. Alien Glyph Morphology is the name of a suite of six short movies, set to his music, of course, that make up the primary focus of this release. Using montage, slides, and slow-motion techniques Robin Storey produces hypnotic visual counterparts to his unique and atmospheric soundtracks. A short film, 'Shadow,' and two slide shows round out the collection. A limited edition set of 20 sturdy Tarot cards painted by Storey accompany the first 1000 copies."
