All things come from and return to the same source; such is the theory of Monism, an ancient philosophy, but also accounting for the music of Jeroen Search. Dictated by an ethos of exclusively recording live takes and only ever editing while a tune is being created, each finished track is imbued with that unique magic of the moment. This is the nature of Monism, Search's first LP in over two decades of electronic explorations and personal as well as artistic growth. As with any of his music that has been released so far, the tracks on here hold a timeless quality, existing within their own frame of reference; that is their immediate experience. Across a carefully arranged course, the album naturally unravels its many ideas, ranging from moments of pensive ambient pieces to thick washes of dub echo and layers of modulated synths, all while providing an endless array of hypnotizing barebones grooves in the process. A true Figure mainstay, Search upholds his artistic relevancy without any reinventing or switching up the formula, rather by simply keeping true to his accomplished craft.

After solemnly closing out the SPC-series in 2016, Jeroen Search hands in his second EP of the year for Figure. These tunes embody the live-recording feel he is known for, perfectly executed and arranged in clean-cut layers. The A-side features big and beefy beats, their generous sub-range creating ample space for the juxtaposing elements to effectively slice through. The rugged but undeniable groove of "Steady Pulse" stands its ground against repeated onslaughts of flailing percussion. The jolty rhythms and tinkling loops of "Endless Circles" seems like the odd one out, but it unexpectedly merges into an intricate mesh of sounds.

A regular contributor to Figure SPC, Jeroen Search both started the series and also provided an end. Across Time Signature EP, the Dutch artist doesn't stick to one style, instead he lets his infamous machines roam about freely. They take the listener for a smooth ride along swaying dub chords and gentle ripples above a hypnotic groove. Search pulls out all the stops and barges right in with fidgety claps and whirling bleeps. Ensuing the sonic assault, a simple synth figure emerges stoically over an almost house-y bounce as nostalgic rave strings bring the EP to an epic ending.

FIGSPC Z
|
Figure SPC arrives at the alphabet's last letter with Figure SPC Z and therefore the end of what has been a most prosperous run-time and success story. Already accountable for its first release A (2009), Jeroen Search has proven essential to the sublabel's course with his many cornerstone contributions. This final, special extended release grants him the ample scope to tell the closing chapter in all proper detail. Spread across two fully packed 12 inches, the Dutch veteran producer wastes no time but lets his ever evolving array of machines do the talking. They speak in many tones - be it snappy or propelling, vivid or restrained, stomping or intricate - yet they all retain Search's consistently singular voice. Each of the nine tracks were composed as a live take, with elements being reduced to the utmost minimum but they always carry the kinetic energy onto the next bar. Figure SPC Z not only bears witness to an artist's impressive ability to reliably distill the pure essence of a groove, it is also the grand conclusion to an esteemed series that has become a staple in many DJ's bags, brought forth plenty of future classics and left its unmistakable mark on techno. Crafty, refined and irresistibly moving, this record is sure to be stirring up dancers around the globe.

Encapsulating a trademark sound built from classic analog hardware, fused with modern production techniques, Jeroen Search offers up three new tracks, backed with two snaking, distinctly modern remixes by London-based techno mainstay Ø [Phase]. What begins as a casual reduced jam then evolves into an ensnaring, tense workout as "Momentum" gathers exactly that -- elevating and maintaining the tension. "The Future Is Ours" then sees Search at his meanest, with a grating, killer hook winding itself around his perfectly controlled drum machines.

"Jeroen Search did a pretty amazing release for us last year. Mobility ended up being supported by a lot of artists (Rolando, Marcel Fengler, Kr!z, Pfirter, Slam, Terence Fixmer, Laura Heath and Estroe to name but a few) and did better than any vinyl release we had done thus far. So, we move on, and from now on vinyl first and foremost. Both tracks are based on Jeroen's liveset: raw, booming and pretty straightforward yet with that typical Jeroen Search touch. 'Ellipse' is a very effective dance floor weapon for the technoheads amongst you: loopy, minimalistic and excellent for three deck action.'Periapsis' on the other hand is the (relatively) calmer track: deepness, darkness, smoothness, Loch Ness, whatever. The background sounds give it a unsettling vibe while the acid'ish stabs give it that hypnotic feel you drugheads all crave for. But the icing on the cake is definitely the Conforce remix. Delsin pedigree, Rush Hour poster boy, and a great guy from that bleep on the radar above our country. His version keeps the wobbly background of the original and turns the entire track in a mean offbeat percussion mofo. Threatening Berghain'ish stabs, rattling cowbells and a break that will knock the fillings out of your teeth: tell me you don't love this track. Conforce is beyond any doubt one of the most interesting Dutch artists of the past few years, after Marco Borsato of course. All hail to the 'King.'"
