For the past years Jacek has been escaping his image of relentless producer and performer of driving, multi-layered club music. His most recent works include deep ambient records, abstract electro-acoustic experiments, and super smart, stripped-down yet incredibly complex contemporary electronica. The last few records, mostly on his own label Recognition include albums with Max Loderbauer and AtomTM, reinterpretations of works by Bogdan Mazurek of the legendary Polish Radio Experimental Studio, scores for radio plays and last year's massively overlooked "Krasz", music for theatrical performance of Ballard/Cronenberg's "Crash". "Pristine", a labor of love, is at times abstract and atonal, at times breathtakingly beautiful and tender. Eight tracks written and performed in Jacek's unmistakable, singular style, and covering many grounds -- abstract, electronic forms, neo-classical wonders, super tight compositions and freeform, jazz-like improvisations and stripped-down rhythms. Jacek Sienkiewicz's IMOW, or "In My Own Wave" is a moody record. Although overtly experimental in form, it's quite different to Sienkiewicz's abstract, improvisational albums recorded with Max Loderbauer or AtomTM. Clocking in at only 35 minutes and comprised of eight tracks, IMOW is several years of work distilled into a dense, concise whole. Atmospheric, cinematic, stirring and utterly engaging, this is surely Sienkiewicz's most personal work to date and very possibly his best: his constant struggle to find a perfect balance of flesh and machine, or to translate human emotions to sound by means of a modern studio is manifested here in its purest, most consistent and, surprisingly, very accessible form. From subtle drones, through chants and rhythms echoing in mountainous chambers, to innumerable insect-like sounds and tiny details, it's an encephalogram recorded to tape (or disk). With all its complexity, it's not overwhelming: the meticulously constructed compositions leave both space for the sounds to breathe, and for the listener to fully experience it, without being bored, tired, wishing for less or being hungry for more. And there's beauty in this record, and hope -- in the world of overpowering darkness and constant noise IMOW feels like a peaceful trip into the untouched nature with all its wonders -- offering in equal parts rest, strength and inspiration.

It is Sienkiewicz 's expedition into the unknown, exploration of topographical margins, both possible and impossible. The nine tracks comprising this album go beyond easy-to-pigeonhole genres, creating a microcosm of utopian sound constructs. This surprisingly unobvious and precisely composed release could be fascinating both for loyal fans and for new listeners looking for threads of experimentalism. In "Desert Plan" and "Kingdom of Lo" one can hear references to extra-temporal Detroit harmonies, while the minimalism of the title track or the alchemic trippy house of "Radionist" provoke questions rather than serve ready-to-use answers. With over 30 releases behind him, and over a decade of running his own label, Sienkiewicz persistently follows his very own path, creating music that is impossible to define. Friendly, but not fraternizing, modest, but stubborn only in a positive way, Jacek is an individual with a clear, personal vision and an unorthodox approach to music -- light years away from the hectic, utilitarian ethos of club-derived electronic beats. On The Road is complex and challenging, to be derived in recent years from the music formerly known as techno. This album successfully attempts to embrace virtually all aspects of modern electronic music -- from rave-like club bangers, through Detroitish passion and deep house-like style, towards ambient soundscapes that are Mariana Trench-deep. Although "Departure" and "Arrival" are clearly marked, this is a journey without a beginning or an end, an endless peregrination in search of the lost chords, primal rhythms and melodies coming supposedly from another world. On The Road is also another collaboration with Cocoon -- starting with Téchnè (COR 003CD), through the memorable Displaced, the cycle is now completed with one of the most experimental albums to appear on Sven Väth's label to date. This record is not easy and definitely demands attention -- but it's also rewarding like no other. On The Road encapsulates Jacek's journey to date -- and is by no means its closing chapter. Quite the contrary -- it's a blueprint for an even more advanced attempt to create a truly timeless piece of art without denying its obvious, energetic and joyful roots. This is proper music -- full of energy and life, impossibly complex yet light as a feather, dense, thought-provoking and playful at the same time. Balancing between dirty noises and angelic melodies, it is moving and at times simply breath-taking. From the opening drone, in a second turned into a whirlwind of sounds and noises, via robotic fanfares for the common traveler and muscular bass-driven anthems for still non-existent dancefloors, towards ambient-like bliss, we hear mature, totally original music. Be it a form of one's expression, social interaction, or the extension of spiritual life, dance is most often associated with music. Dance embodies emotions, expresses ideas and generally tells a story. Music is the catalyst. The modern dance was raised out of rebellion against the strict formulas of tradition -- and so was the music you are about to hear. Jacek Sienkiewicz has been exploring the emotional, physical, mental, communicative and artistic aspects of dance and music for the last ten years. "Technology that powers the world is supposed to be stable and not to fail. But every machine is programmed or operated by a human, whose single mistake can lead into crash. Furthermore, beware of the accidents that happen, which may cause serious damage to a power computer, will it be either a software problem or brutal physical damage. And, in fact, the more complex the technology becomes, the threat of unexpected damage rises. However, broken machines could work, and here is the example: Displaced is the second album for Cocoon by Jacek Sienkiewicz, Warsaw-based 27-year old producer and fierce live performer, also running his own label Recognition. This is an exceptional record: made by Jacek after moving from his native Warsaw to more quiet and conservative Cracow, using, among others, a badly crashed laptop computer, virtually high on emotion. One can find all his trademark elements here -- madly driving techno beats, overwhelming melodies and weird vocal snippets, but the result is more dancefloor-friendly as well as more experimental at a time, a rare achievement in today's formalised world of club music.
