An old friend returns to Pets Recordings. Three years after his Polyphonic EP (PETS 068EP, 2016), Catz 'n Dogz bring the legend that is Mathias Kaden back on the label and the results speak for themselves... Following his recent barnstormers on Avotre and Rekids, both "Square" and "Distant Horizon" deliver in that unhurried, cosmic journey-like way Kaden has made his signature over the years: gentle layering, subtle moment, palpable atmospheres but the drive and underbelly of a bulldozer. "Square" kicks off the show with an eight-minute adventure into deep, warm undulating acid. Heavy subs, fluid drums, and a persistent spoken vocal texture, this one wraps you up like a cloak. "Distant Horizon", meanwhile, whips that cloak off so quickly it will send you spinning deeper and deeper into the celestial rabbit hole. A ten-minute Mathias epic, it warms up with a progressive rolling feel for a good few minutes before you're suddenly derailed into a trippy, hazy brew of weird bass bubbles and some rather outlandish spoken word. Poetry in high-grade technoid motion. And the motion doesn't stop there... Ever ones to get involved, Catz 'n Dogz get their paws on "Distant Horizon" and give it their own gritty, grainy, trippy twist. Two parts tribal, one part bass, all parts peak time, this doesn't just stare out at the horizon but flies you right over it. Two beautiful originals, one killer remix. Be there or be "Square"...

The mighty Truncate crash lands on Catz n' Dogz' Pets Recordings imprint with two outstanding slabs of forthright techno tension. His first full single for the label, Truncate was last spotted aboard remixing KiNK way back in 2015. Now he's making up for lost time, thumping away relentlessly like two old mates who haven't caught up with each other in years. "Pressure" takes the lead. Bouncy, stripped-back, pounding and riddled with Ovum-level acidic funk, once you're locked into Truncate's loopy hypnosis, you may never escape. "Level Up" does exactly what its title suggests, too. Total rolling thunder with builds upon builds, there's a sense of momentum that elevates at every twist. And if that's not enough, Unknown 2 The Unknown bossman and fusionist king DJ Haus gets involved with some prime remix real estate. Buckle up friends, the pressure is only just beginning to rise...

The Berlin-based Italian Black Loops return to Pets Recordings with this almighty four-piece that runs their entire groove gamut. "Gwei Lo" is a two-step teaser. "Unity" keeps the garage theme but with much more of New York or New Jersey style vibe. "Keep A Secret" is just beautiful deepness with shades of Europe and the West Coast. Somewhere between Ian Pooley and Hipp-E & Halo in a state of perpetual sunset. "Born In The 80s" is a timeless slab of deep house heaven where the era is referenced beautifully in the gentle.

"R U Happy?" A simple question. But is there a simple answer? Tripmastaz and Guti first ever collaboration -- conjured in a rare real life, real time, real vibe collabo scenario in Tripmastaz' Moscow studio -- this fact alone should be a reason for happiness. Bubbling analog bass, relentless jacking beats, filters set to their juiciest coordinates and that insistent loopy vocal sample, there are some serious strong tones of Chicago in the blend. D'Julz provides a remix, and the 12" is rounded out by an instrumental version.

2021 repress. Psychemagik's Rattlesnake is the duo's debut Pets Recordings single and it lives up to its deadly name. Sliding into the dance with all the stealth and funk venom its name suggests; the bite comes midway as the fatal secondary bassline kicks in with a Cobra Kai finishing move. It's loaded with two equally lethal remixes as the label welcome two more debuts from pit vipers old and new; Magda bites hard with a poisonous futuristic funk roll-out while Vyvyan continue their anonymous attack with a fantastic cosmic twist and a build-up that rattles like a whole army of Crotalus.

2x12" version. Escaping to a wooden cabin in the Spanish countryside village, Cercedilla, which also shares the name of the opening album track, Greg and Voitek of Catz 'N Dogz came together to create an album that re-wrote their history book. Known for their diverse style and ability to craft varying pace and rhythm, the duo sought out consistency with their Friendship album to make an album in the truest sense; a long player to be listened to as one body of work. Vocalist and guitarist James Yuill on the Spanish inspired "There", fellow polish native Rosalie. on "Mind" and deep vocals of ZENSOFLY and Maxville on the funky "Wave". Traveling into new territories of cross-genre and lingual collaboration, leading Polish rapper, Taco Hemingway lays down lyrics in English on "Yi Fang". Along with longtime friend Kiddy Smile and fellow creative mind Rouge Mary, teaming up on '90s house-inspired love song "One Plus You". Appearances also come from WhoMadeWho on the cool and breezy "Never Go Down", before later delving deeper into the ethereal voice of Jono McCleery in "Would You Believe" and the eerie folk-esque vocals Eglė Sirvydytė on second-last track "Water". Sharing the same name as their countryside escape, introductory interlude "Cercedilla", eases the listener in with warm notes and raw samples of running water taken from the cottage that became their home. "New Love" celebrates new possibilities and challenges that come throughout life; narrated with rumbling break-beat and euphoric synth lines. Big kicks and funky melodies in "This Feels Real", build anticipation for what is set to follow in the acidic elements of "Questions"; denoting the rollercoaster of emotion one can experience throughout the relationships we make. Hugging the listener with emotional piano chords, "Moments Turn To Hours" encourages the idea of being at peace with oneself, acknowledging the long and hard times and allowing them to pass on by. Looking back to the Berlin days of Catz 'n Dogz, "Last Song For Berlin" summarizes the decade they spent there. Celebrating the people and friendships they made and channeling the soulful side to a city so lauded for its darkness in the techno scene. Picking up with "Hedonic Treadmill" drum and bass elements, layered with emotive keys and uplifting soulful samples, see out the album with a sense of euphoria and hope for the future.

JOMO: The joy of missing out. Bawrut is back in full original EP mode and he's making his debut on Pets Recordings. "Pioneers" is laced with syrupy spoken word; it's all about the physical and emotional reactions from a raw house groove. "Desert Island" is a dynamic acid attack riddled with rich levels of 303 funk. "Piano&Piano" brings you back to dry land with crunchy loops that somehow manage to ooze funk, soul, and staccato synth-stabbed drama in equal measure. "Your Job Is My Job" is another heady maze of trippy textures and psychedelic nods.

Roman Flügel's wonked-out trip on "Don't" sets the perfect creative benchmark for what's to follow. Next is the stripped back warm and jacking twist of "It's Happening" by Rutilance founder DJ Steaw while Counter Records' Pional breaks down "Rave History" into a slinkier house affair. Finally, an exceptional twist of the Green Velvet collaboration "Keep On" by LAWLERinjects a springy, molten momentum to the elements with a salubriously loopy machine funk feel.

Pets Recordings start 2017 with a techno maestro: Roberto Clementi. It begins with "Avesys": its dubby warmth, rippling rhythmic elements, and patient percussive builds, don't just mark the perfect tone and timbre of an on-point take off set, but also trigger the whole full-spectrum, deep space EP concept. "Voschod" follows with a one-way trip into space, exploring the lesser-told half of the '60s space race and the Russian's second wave spacecraft trips. "Landing A Man" spins the listener into gravity-free stasis with a historic homage to Kennedy's ambition to land a man on the moon.

Pets Recordings welcome a true Polish techno founding father to the fold: Jacek Sienkiewicz. "SU17" is a bubbling sine cauldron that starts with a simmer but builds to a boil with its ever-morphing, lava-like flow. "Mustang" is a cascading synth odyssey that gently rises and falls like an Escher-looped staircase. Gradually building in momentum with more of Jacek's signature hypnosis flare, it's not until the drums double up with an almost live-style visceral feel. Complete with a star-lit switch from Berlin's serial innovator Tobias., where the synths are deftly refocused and a whole layer of orchestral delight are layered within.

Jay Shepheard is back with a track that's so infectious if you licked its back you'd trip for weeks. Prepare yourselves for "Bullfrogging": wry funk, warmth, and humanized technoid soul. Processing, harmonizing, and splicing a vocal texture, Jay's balance of electronic hustle and anthropomorphized action creates a summer anthem. "Early Doors" follows suit and there's a massive clue in the title. Deep and trippy but coded with a hook that grabs rather than soothes. Jay's long-time friend and neighbor Mark Henning's remix is a relentless tribal slammer of a version that still retains the warmth and soul of Jay's original.

Utrechtian feral feline Larry De Kat prowls his way onto Pets Recordings. "I Know You Can Hear Me" leads with big pumps wrapped in a fine vibe balance of Detroit and Parisian house textures, but done with Larry's signature dubby, jacking style. "Naakte Groove" delivers a lean-but-warm bass riff that purrs with finesse around a straight-up strutting drum arrangement. "Amlou" rolls and scratching like it was 20 years younger, with an innate physicality in the drums and a big disco hook. "She Doesn't" is the dubbiest groove of the set, with rippling synths and precision tuned snare shot.

Black Loops present For The Lovers EP on Pets Recordings. With its walking bassline, dreamy flurries, and sultry spoken word, "4 The Lovers" melts hearts and sets the scene for a sweet soiree. "Where My Girls At" continues the racy theme as the Italians-in-Berlin lay down a persistent kick drum smooth talk, with swooning filtered pads adding layers of allure. "Blomst" flutters its come-to-bed eyes with hip-rattling percussive scratches, a plucked bouncy bassline, and blushing chords. The deep, dubby bassline of "Soulsista" slinks and purrs over jacking Chicago-style beats and cosmic weaves wisp and whir somewhere on cloud nine.

Madrid-based Simon Garcia cooks up a whole new wealth of grooves on Trimmer EP. Garcia provides two quintessential winter warmers. "I Never Knew" chugs with a full bodied dynamic that's nicely reminiscent of Yoshitoshi 15-20 years ago, as molten machines create a funk that wraps itself around a humanized sample. "Trimmer" lives up to its name with his signature hypnotic vibes, less-is-more flow. Mr Tophat's remix of "I Never Knew" closes. A true switch-flipper, the second you think you have the remix and its slinky Brett Johnson/Classis Music style groove, it flips. "I Never Knew" features Trisse Young.

Thorsteinssøn is the Iceland-born-Denmark-bred Gunnar Thor Viggosson, better known as one half of 76 79 with Tommy Vicari Jnr and boss man at Comfortable Records and Vanity - Although now he can be called the man behind the first Pets album of 2016. Deliciously cosmic and cheerily schizophrenic, Academy Of Heroes is inspired by a brilliant creative project Thorsteinssøn practiced during his years living in Amsterdam: Solar Industry Radio - A project that would begin with a made up artist or band name in styles ranging from cosmic funk, Scandinavian disco to noise collages of the galaxies. A joyously backwards project that inspired a rich rainbow of styles, the content was then represented 24/7 online, collaged with strange jingles and sci-fi snippets. Returning to those creations, Thorsteinssøn and Pets have weaved together a full album that cherry picks from his thunderous proliferation: from the strutting west coast deep house of "1976" to the introverted electro boogie of "N:M:T:F:R" by way of the poignant chords of "Untitled Disco Six", the wry acid wriggles of "Channel DISQ" and the Trans Am twinkles of "Beneath A Steel Sky". This collection of 14 tracks act as an immersive, timeless collage. A smorgasbord of synthetic exploration, rich in sci-fi, space and robotic sympathy, pieced together with the same spirit of his cult radio transmissions. It works just as well on the cans as it does in the dance.

With Thorsteinssøn's Academy Of Heroes (PETS 072LP) album on the horizon, Pets Recordings precede the release with a trio of remixes. First up is London's Ashworth. "Sixtrak Blues" is the track of choice with Ashworth harnessing the originals dreamy vibe and adding a punchy guitar driven groove. Gerd steps up under his Geeeman guise, with a rework of "Sammy". Keeping the acidic melody, the Dutchman replaces the original's loose drums with a raw, kickass rhythm of his own. Berlin's Cab Drivers add a driving drum pattern turns the original slo-mo groover "Midnight At Taffey's", into a stellar swinging workout.

Mathias Kaden presents his EP, Polyphonic. The title track sits somewhere between Paperclip People and Basement Jaxx. Its sterling acid house hook lays down the foundations while a dizzying array of FX and sonic chem-trails swoop, bend and flare above the groove like fireworks. "NoKick", as the name suggests, doesn't have a kick drum, just a swinging break with a classic 2 Bad Mice-style old-school bassline and even more laser-blazing FX trickery that rifles the spectrum with head-turning, twisted dexterity. Complete with crowd cheers and carnival whoops and hollers, this is the ultimate DJ tool.

Catz n' Dogz announce Upsi Bubsi. The opening and title track is a certified floor filler from the get-go. The track opens with a thunderous mix of 909 loops alongside a repeated throb of intense arpeggiated bass. The track is peppered with splurges of crashing cymbals, rolling toms and the hypnotic looped vocal whispering "Don't stop". "Elixir" offers a different experience to its counterpart with a collage of rising melodic chords and an 808 break beat. The track is a beautiful arrangement of graceful choir sounding melodies over warm sub-bass chords, seemingly inspired by early '90s Detroit.

Greece-born Berlin resident Thanasis Voulgaris aka Kindimmer continues to tread the line between raw house and quality techno with the Occhiolism EP. "The Subject" is an atmospheric, loopy house affair with snappy snares and bubbling bass wobbles. "Anxiety Society" is more of a raw and aggressive floor-slayer, primed for peak-time damage with its firing percussion and unrelenting kick, bass, and snare axis. "Your Name of Choice" adds layers of cut-up vocals, synths, and effects to its rhythmic blueprint. "Stanza 103" builds from a sick techno pulse into something altogether more groove-orientated via intricate drum programming and evolving pads that evoke Detroit's legends.

"This Time" is the product of a fruitful relationship between Adam Port and vocalist Jennifer Touch, who grabbed Adam Port's attention with her standout vocals on New World's 2013 Night Stalker EP on Riotvan (RVN 006EP). Full of dark, new wave pop sensibilities and edgy, dancefloor nuance, "This Time" is highlighted by Jennifer Touch's haunting vocal delivery. Sei A delivers a punchy, bassy remix; a darker, techno-leaning excursion into full-force peak-time territory. Double LP version. Polish DJs, producers, and Pets Recordings label owners Catz 'n Dogz, known for their electrifying performances and catchy cuts, present their third album, Basic Colour Theory, a fruitful collection of evocative melodies and gorgeous vocals. The album marks a pivotal moment in the house outfit's career. Taking the lead in the Eastern European electronic music revolution, the pair, who have graced the cover of both Mixmag and DJ Mag España, add Basic Colour Theory to their list of acclaimed work, including their 2013 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and weighty remixes for Basement Jaxx, Kings of Leon, Thomas Schumacher, Friendly Fires, and Kim Ann Foxman, not to mention their two previous albums. On Basic Colour Theory traditional songwriting meets Catz 'n Dogz' signature infectious basslines in a natural result of extensive sonic exploration and the osmotic process of years of DJing worldwide. With a knack for reading a crowd just right, they've appeared at the most coveted festivals across the globe, including South West Four, Parklife, Bestival, Snowbombing, Electric Daisy Carnival, and The BPM Festival; this release appears in advance of appearances at Detroit's iconic Movement Electronic Music Festival (2015) and Serbia's Exit Festival (2016). Here, their live talent translates to a collection of inviting tracks, as they showcase their on-point production skills. "We did a lot of research, preparation, reading, watching documentaries about the music scene, people and looking for inspirations everywhere. We were talking a lot about people who inspire us, art, creative process, philosophy and meaning of work and music in our life." Opening cut "Good Touch" exemplifies the album's game-changing nature, kicking off a 15-track voyage through experimental sounds. Although a rewarding listening experience from start to finish, this is an album on which each track stands alone for its own musical purpose, dancing through the listener's mind long after listening. Tracks such as "Czas Poczeka (Chyba)" express the heart and soul that both producers have put into this body of work, all the while keeping things up-tempo with rhythmic cuts like "Nobody Cares." "Killing with Kindness" is a soul-drenched groover, with its warm chords and atmospherics straddling a subtly clipped garage-like shuffle. Tracks such as "From Your Heart" and "Coming Back" are filled with emotion, from the beguiling vocals to the moving chord progressions. Includes contributions from Eglė Sirvydytė, Phat Kat, Peter Bjorn and John, Javeon, Green Velvet, Tanika, Cloud Boat, and Jono McCleery.
