AUS 1583EP

Youandewan follows his 2015 Spiral Arms EP (AUS 1474EP) with a dub-tinged collection of foggy deep house and techno. The rubbery thud of "Verloren" sits beneath a rich, sandy shuffle and a buoyant analog stab. Reverberated vocals swell through the breakdown, ahead of a stripped but purposeful sub pattern. Ilian Tape boss Dario Zenker drives clap-heavy drum patterns through a tough and uncompromising remix. "253 (Decent Mix)" melds a flexing bass pattern with neatly-plotted clicks and playful drum-fills before glassy pads swell into focus. "#1" drives a full-bodied throb under chilly synth tones and dramatic drum flashes.

RSD 2015 release. Youandewan's remix of Midland's "Bring Joy" finally sees the light of day on vinyl, originally released digitally in 2011 and supported by everyone from Richie Hawtin to Maceo Plex. Ewan takes over both sides of this release with his edit of "93 'til Infinity" by Souls of Mischief, which was one of XLR8R's top 10 downloads of 2014 and was supported on BBC Radio 6 Music by Lauren Laverne. Limited to 300. Don't sleep.

AUS 1474EP

Berlin-based Youandewan, consistently modest in his ascent, has steadily built his reputation behind releases on Secretsundaze (SECRET 009EP), Hypercolour, and Simple Records (SIMPLE 1354EP), as well his 2014 self-titled EP on AUS (AUS 1463EP). He now presents his Spiral Arms EP, a sophisticated meld of deep pads, flecks of acid, and no-nonsense house grooves backed up by a remix from Dixon Avenue Basement Jams affiliate Marquis Hawkes. Hawkes follows up his work on Houndstooth and Crème Organisation with a rattling '90s revision of "Fool Be Cool" full of stout percussion and circling vocal cuts.

AUS 1463EP
|
Youandewan presents a self-titled suite of deep, jacking dance tracks on Aus Music. The swinging, acid-flecked "Tino" kicks things off on a moody tip before the steady-groovin' "Alright Son" goes to a duskier, deeper place, keeping the jacking feel of the first track intact but smoothing things out with dreamy pads and looped, spoken vocals. "FM Jam" is presented first in its original form with disco-esque bass, soulful vocals, gentle keys and titular FM synths. This makes it an all-too-perfect remix for Andrés, who applies his signature vibe and smoothes it out even further into a soulful neo-disco-house cruiser.

SIMPLE 1354EP
|
Youandewan debuts on Simple with a four-track EP that highlights Ewan's attention to detail -- whether that be with the pitch-shifted vocal samples coupled with shuffling melodic flourishes on "What's the Deal" or whether it's a groovier number like "Just Words," which focuses on a classy bass line, a few drawn-out synth chords and sweet vocal snippets. "You Don't Know" combines Ewan's trademark vocal snippets with Mike Huckaby-esque synth licks, and "You Tired" combines a heavy, groovy bass line and lush, subtle piano flourishes.

SECRET 009EP
|
Secretsundaze presents a sublime EP from Yorkshire-bred Younandewan. "Times" is deceiving with its melodic flourish and sweet vocal samples, yet lurking underneath are techno undertones with a heavy, dusty and almost industrial kick. "Be Dark" also has the same thuddy kick but this time, moody synths and mysterious spoken words wash over the groove. "Squared" goes for a more soulful and garage-y sound, and "What You Mean" illustrates Ewan's deft touch, combining sweet vocal snippets and classy sound design.
