SECRET 013EP
|
Secretsundaze present another stunning EP by the extremely talented Flori aka Jamie Taylor. "What It Is" starts off with a call to arms with its direct, brooding and muscular grunt. Slowly, waves of atmosphere lap into the mix, taking the track in a surprising, deeper direction, but never losing momentum before the menacing riff rears its head again, leading the track back to its low-slung, powerful beginnings. "Drum 1" is a perky number with its fizzing hats and sneaky synth line and "Baci" takes things on a moody and slightly sinister tip with its technoid groove and eerie pads.

SECRET 012EP
|
A fresh 12" from Chicago-born Amir Alexander. "Don't Go" is a culmination of his signature style with hard-hitting drums, a catchy synth line, squelchy bass, and mournful vocals. This has been road-tested for some time now by both Giles and James at Secretsundaze, and James included it in his LWE podcast. The track is a guaranteed floor-filler, perfectly balancing energy and atmosphere. On the flip, "Bangin'" is equally direct, focusing on the drums with a squiggly acid line sneaking in, offset by more melodic touches. Another essential release from Amir Alexander.

SECRET 011EP

For Secretsundaze's 11th release they welcome Swedish rising techno producer Bleak to the family. All three tracks stand out for their high-end production and driving sound, while retaining plenty of soul and atmosphere. Title-track "Open Space" features a driving kick and numerous percussive elements all working together alongside gliding, hypnotic pads and chords. A tweaky, acidic line fades up in the mix and worms its way into your consciousness with more killer percussive elements picking the energy up into a tracky, hypnotizing groove.

SECRET 010EP

John Daly's "One More City" is perhaps his most anthemic and euphoric track yet -- one that could almost be a lost early Happy Records DAT found in the studios of Mad Mike Banks (Underground Resistance), with its glorious, strong in-the-mix pianos, high-energy percussion and washes of Detroit-inspired atmosphere. "This Time" is a pad-drenched track with rich, warm analog production, a strong organ sound and a bubbling bass line. "Weightless" is fathoms deep with its very live-sounding acoustic bass line, skittering percussion, and forever-present pads.

SECRET 009EP

Secretsundaze presents a sublime EP from Yorkshire-bred Younandewan. "Times" is deceiving with its melodic flourish and sweet vocal samples, yet lurking underneath are techno undertones with a heavy, dusty and almost industrial kick. "Be Dark" also has the same thuddy kick but this time, moody synths and mysterious spoken words wash over the groove. "Squared" goes for a more soulful and garage-y sound, and "What You Mean" illustrates Ewan's deft touch, combining sweet vocal snippets and classy sound design.

SECRET 008EP

Secretsundaze presents an EP by London's Ben Micklewright aka BLM. Sudden Death sees the producer hit new heights with a more balls-y, right-in-your-face sound. "Sudden Death" gets straight to the point with its big kick, sharp hats and rumbling bass. Quite relentless and direct in its approach, the groove is offset by a chime-y brass stab. "Chemistry" is less techno and more house-y in its mentality, with a deadly acid line. "Brick" is a dreamy, lazy cut, working equally afterhours or at home.

SECRET 004EP

Mid-2012 release; hailed by influential critic and blogger Philip Sherburne as one of the top 50 records of the year. This release marks the beginning of an exciting partnership between secretsundaze's James Priestley & Marco Spaventi. The product of numerous late-night Amsterdam studio sessions, this 12" fuses 128 bpm house and techno with elements of UK bass, while taking cues from Cajmere and Chicago. "Baia 2012" is an organic-sounding offering backed by a Fela Kuti percussion loop, a massive bass line from a Prophet 5 synthesizer, original drum-machine work, vintage synths and varied jazz riff samples. Remixes by Aybee.

SECRET 007EP

Secretsundaze resident and co-founder James Priestley and studio partner Marco Antonio return with Speed, for their second release on the ever-evolving London based secretsundaze stable. "Speed" pays homage to those legendary club-times, but updated for the dancefloors and headphones of today, essentially as a patient, restrained, synth-layered and organic, percussive techno record. A tight 909 kick, Prophet 5 pads and sampled maracas and shakers, make way for an incessant bassline and nostalgic vocal sample. Remix by Trevino.
