"During the mid-'90s, David Kempston (aka Clatterbox) secured himself a considerable following while recording releases for the seminal UK label, Clear. In years to come, his debut double 10" mini-LP would become a collector's piece widely regarded as some of his best material. David went on to produce music in a diversity of styles, under various guises including the solid house sounds of Cartel Productions (Ideal/Reel Discs), the malignant breaks of Darkmode (En:vision Recordings) and a collaboration album project with Metamatics (Lee Norris) on label Neo Ouija. In 2003, David set up his own record label called Z-Bop, with friend Steve Horne aka The Horn (Universal Language). Co-running the label with a family of artists who all hail from the southwest of England. Late 2006 saw the Clatterbox debut release on legendary electro label Touchin' Bass called the
Control Freak
EP. In early 2007, Clatterbox released the
Storm Drain
EP on the ultra-cool label from Vienna Trust. This release with Cheap sees a re-uniting of old friendships as Clatterbox gigged on numerous occasions with Patrick and Erdem in the mid- to late-'90s. The material to be released on Cheap is very much a continuation of the funky/down-tempo styles fondly remembered by Clear and Clatterbox fans. As such this material could be considered 'Clatterbox - The Lost Works' as most of the tracks were produced in a period spanning 1998-2002. If you like your sounds funky, then look no further than Cheap and Clatterbox."
