Romantic Fiction, the debut LP from Curses, is an honest musical expression drawing influences from his youth growing up in NYC in the '80s. References to new wave, post-punk, synth music and early EBM are skillfully merged with the DIY approach of punk and rock n' roll angst. Brandishing an immersive sonic palette, all instruments throughout the album were played and recorded by the artist. Exhausted by the current state of competitive dance music monotony, Romantic Fiction is a collection of songs, not DJ tools; songs that work at home, but also in the club should the right crowd beckon. It's about escapism and finding comfort in the unknown, fulfilling the empty void by embracing the mysterious. Darkness is a light undiscovered, not something to be frightened of. Curses invites friends who share a mutual love for incorporating post punk and new wave into contemporary electronic music. Perel delivers mighty Nina Hagen-esque operatic punk vocals on the first single, "Gold & Silber", whilst Dischi Autunno label boss Jennifer Cardini and Curses share a duet on the cold wave silk of "Silence In The Dark". As an amalgamation of influences from multiple decades, Romantic Fiction is a deeply personal album, triggering a feeling that is unnerving at times, familiar and welcoming at others.

Preceding his debut album (DA 007LP), Curses presents Gold & Silber, a five-track EP led by a hypnotic, post-punk leaning roller, as well as four additional remixes from Antoni Maiovvi, Chinaski, and Fango. For the title track, Berlin-based artist Perel provides cathartic vocals on top of a drowsy rhythmic framework drawing influence from early EBM, synth music, and new wave. Fango provides a more angular, computerized take on the original, whilst Antoni Maiovvi raises the heat to a peak-time flow. Chinaski provides maximal '80s synth work on the "Painkiller Bonus VMix" and trippy dancefloor energy on the "Tech Noir" remix.

Dollkraut's second album Holy Ghost People is a beguiling LP that keeps on giving -- proof can be found in these three superlative remixes. Subversive Berlin duo OTTO take the lead with a warm, Arabic twist on the album opener "Bonnie Says" by lifting the groove with a little organ-squeezing spring while maintaining its faraway haze and mystique. Romanian-also-in-Berlin Borusiade follows with an overwhelming floor-ready update on "Have I Told You". Finally, Mannequin Records founder Alessandro Adriani joins the party with a tunneling twist on the somnambulant aesthetic of "Valium".

Jennifer Cardini and Noura Labbani return to Yovav's majestic slice of cold wave theater. Still as epic and dramatic as it ever was, its narrative is now galvanized by a typically dynamic edit from Gerd Janson, three originals, and one remix. "Railroad Track" is an animated chip-like adventure with layers of leads cleverly interlaced around the lolloping lo-fi kicks; "File's Detective" plays the consummate creeper as a slinky metallic beat suddenly melts into a sleazy, sneaky lead; "Space Work" closes the show on a cosmic high while Brassica add crucial footnotes with an up-tempo breakbeat remix.
