Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX is the second compilation for Eskimo Recordings compiled and curated by Berlin-based Musician and DJ Luca Venezia, aka Curses, to explore the darker side of club music. Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX features a mammoth 49 tracks that join the dots between early industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle, EBM legends like Nitzer Ebb, and the post-punk experiments of people like Malcolm McLaren and Big Audio Dynamite with some of the most exciting artists around today, such as Boy Harsher, Nuovo Testamento, and Years of Denial. Where the first Next Wave Acid Punx compilation was a personal journey for Luca, a lockdown inspired exploration of his record collection to find the thread that ran through the music that had soundtracked much of his life, DEUX is a celebration of that music let loose on the world, the thrill of music performed live, the smoke and strobe filled clubs you'll hear it in and the artists you'll find on those stages. Curses' set takes you from music by Colourbox and Suicide to EBM pioneers, Front 242 through to recent club hits from Zombies in Miami, and 12 brand new, totally exclusive tracks from the likes of Shubostar, Chinaski, and Curses himself. Exploring the darker side of club music, Next Wave Acid Punx traces decades of a musical passion and joins the dots between the EBM, new beat, Italo and acid house tracks of the 1980s to present music of today. "Putting together a compilation like this is a strange experience. I've never been one to stay still too long. Whether as a musician, DJ, or producer I'd never wanted to tie myself down to one scene or one sound, always looking to move on before I'd maybe run a project completely dry. With an album you create a snapshot of who you are during that time in life, with a DJ set maybe just that night, but this felt more like trying to sum up a lifetime of musical experiences . . . Romantic Fiction, the debut LP from Curses, is an honest musical expression drawing influences from his youth growing up in NYC in the '80s. References to new wave, post-punk, synth music and early EBM are skillfully merged with the DIY approach of punk and rock n' roll angst. Brandishing an immersive sonic palette, all instruments throughout the album were played and recorded by the artist. Exhausted by the current state of competitive dance music monotony, Romantic Fiction is a collection of songs, not DJ tools; songs that work at home, but also in the club should the right crowd beckon. It's about escapism and finding comfort in the unknown, fulfilling the empty void by embracing the mysterious. Darkness is a light undiscovered, not something to be frightened of. Curses invites friends who share a mutual love for incorporating post punk and new wave into contemporary electronic music. Perel delivers mighty Nina Hagen-esque operatic punk vocals on the first single, "Gold & Silber", whilst Dischi Autunno label boss Jennifer Cardini and Curses share a duet on the cold wave silk of "Silence In The Dark". As an amalgamation of influences from multiple decades, Romantic Fiction is a deeply personal album, triggering a feeling that is unnerving at times, familiar and welcoming at others.
