Two years after an acclaimed first album (FVR 134LP, 2017), Al Sunny and Favorite Recordings present Planets, carrying on their collaboration and bringing it to another level. Al Sunny is a young and talented singer/musician/composer emerging from the French soul music scene. During his conservatory studies, he refined his knowledge and confirmed his desire to write and compose. He quickly matured the music that he truly loves, inspired by artists such as Tim Maia, America, Al Green, and Al Jarreau. Giving birth to the majority of his compositions through his guitar, he always seeks to bring his songs' melody to the forefront. During his studies he kept experiencing live performing on different scenes and confirmed his choice for a musical career, while also meeting many brilliant musicians, including Florian Pellissier, who later introduced him to Pascal Rioux and Favorite Recordings. It resulted in 2017's Time To Decide release, a dazzling first album establishing Al Sunny's music and writing style, looking towards the '70s and '80s west coast movement, infused with blue-eyed-soul, pop, and folk flavors. Built on the same influences, Planets is made of eight new compositions, and is clearly a continuation of its cadet, asserting Al Sunny's talent and singing skills. Fully recorded live in analog in Paris, this new album also stands out by an impressive level of production, faithful to some classics of the genre. Mixing catchy melodies, soulful vocals, warm and heavy bass, strong beat and beautiful guitars, and keyboards harmonies, Planets just perfectly meets the AOR and modern-soul golden era standards. CD version includes bonus track.

Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. The motor hasn't had time to cool down and the belt drive is feeling the fatigue. But Charles Maurice is the kind of DJ who just can't let a turntable rest. After steaming up the slipmat with three sexy compilations of French Boogie (FVR 101CD/LP, 122CD/LP, 140CD/LP), Charles Maurice is back with Volume 4. In the late '70s and early '80s, while France was still firmly tuned into variety-show pop, a few enlightened ears and souls picked up the hypnotic beat of funk from across the Atlantic. These first warrior monks spread the good word in discotheques, jumped on newly available frequencies to fill the airwaves and -- in some cases -- took up instruments themselves to unabashedly build on the U.S. model. In a short decade stretching from the late '70s to the late '80s -- just a blip on the scale of music history -- they turned out material in abundance. Lush productions with colorful covers, groovy typeface, and creative photo shoots, but first and foremost, they made music weaned on, spoon-fed and imbued with funk. Music defined by a groove with a robotic beat (Djeneba) that clearly hears hip-hop banging on the door, where layers of synthesizers, handclaps (Eric Chotteau), horns, and African percussion line up and follow the all-powerful lead of the swelling slap bass (Cyrill). This is music that tells everyday stories, both humorous and lovelorn (Serge Delisle), often packed with pheromones just waiting to be released on the dance floor or sofa (Chris O'Hara). Shaped by synthetic textures, these productions are also spiced with Caribbean and Creole arrangements that reflect the West Indies' critical contribution to French Boogie (Wai Kop, Acayouman). With his immaculate tailoring, slicked-back hair and clipped moustache, Maurice has once again transformed himself into a hi-fi stylus to explore the groove traced by this specifically French musical style. From 45 to 33 rpm, he has traveled the black spiral to bring a new selection that proudly features a number of rarely-heard pieces and even an unreleased track by Marco Attali. True to form, Monsieur Charles carefully crafted this fourth volume from his personal collection of impeccably restored and mastered vinyl recordings. Charles Maurice: where French elegance meets uncompromising musical taste. Also features: Dwight Druick, David Simon, Shen Et Les Shendys, and Aries.

For many disco and house music producers and listeners, Leroy Burgess might be one of the most important figures and inspiration, however being clearly quite unknown to the mass. Born and raised in Harlem, his musical knowledge was picked up informally through his mother (a classically trained soprano) and the infrequent family reunion with his mom's cousin, legendary Philly soul arranger/producer, Thom Bell. It resulted in a 50 years musical career, which started in the late '60s within the Black Ivory band, under the shoulder of famous producer Patrick Adams. The list of project and artists he's contributed to whether as a singer, musician, arranger, writer or producer is then incredible: Inner Life, Dazzle, Logg, Aleem, High Frequency, Change, Universal Robot Band, Rick James, Ben E. King, Eddie Kendricks, Narada Michael Walden, are just a few of them. His influence to the disco and boogie musical movement is quite unequaled, and in the '90s he became also part of the garage and house movement, collaborating with acts such as Blaze, Glenn Underground, and Cassius. Since 2016, after a special gig at the Nuits Sonores festival in Lyon (France), where he was invited by MCDE, Leroy Burgess started touring Europe, backed by a band composed of musicians from the French city. In 2018 at the New Morning in Paris, Pascal Rioux from Favorite Recordings, could confirm this feeling, while he also realized knowing most of these musicians, who collaborated to project from the label such as Mr Day or The Dynamics. There was not much more needed to launch the idea of some Leroy Burgess's new recordings with the band, reviving the '80s analog production golden-age. Today Favorite Recordings is thrilled to present Work It Out/Til I Found You, new two-track single by Leroy Burgess and Saving Coco, produced and composed by The Bernard Brothers and Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart. The Bernard Brothers is a Paris/London based production duo comprised of Elliott and Nevil Bernard. Elliott (aka Seiji Ono) and Nevil (aka Koji Ono) are also involved in running London reissue label, Melodies International. Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart, is a famous French producer, who's proven over the past 15 years, his place amongst the finest producers of groove music in all genres through various projects such as Voilaaa, Mr President, or Uptown Funk Empire to name just a few.

Favorite Recordings present a reissue of Dwight Druick's Tanger, originally released in 1980. Dwight Druick was born in Montreal to a professional gambler and an ex-Radio City Rockette. One of five children, he grew up in a family buoyed by music and beleaguered by the vagaries of miscalculated risk. After attaining a McGill University bachelor's degree in Art History, Dwight fully embraced both music and risk by traveling to London, where he signed a contract with Pye Records and Joe Cocker's management company. The ensuing record, Druick & Lorange (1974), was released to critical acclaim and relative success. After returning to Canada, Dwight recorded two albums with Phil Vyvial: Midnight (1979) and Minuit (!979). Recorded with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section in Alabama, the duo's work achieved airplay success in Quebec and across Canada. Dwight subsequently released his first French language solo album, Tanger, released in 1980 by the Canadian label, Bobinason. Today quite hard to find in its original version, Tanger is first of all an incredibly solid album, clearly underrated and deserving more credit. Mostly known by collectors and DJs for the stunning cover of Toto's classic hit, "Georgy Porgy", which was produced and arranged with the help of George Thurston (Boule Noire), it includes many other tasty titles, with amongst them another fine rendition of "Open Your Eyes" by The Doobie Brothers. In fact, with its brilliant mix of modern-soul, disco, and AOR styles, the whole album is already considered by many connoisseurs as a classic, and clearly a must have for anyone enjoying this musical blend. Never reissued on vinyl until now, there was not much more needed at Favorite Recordings to make it happened. Officially licensed to Dwight Druick, who was unfortunately not able to provide the original tapes, Tanger has been perfectly restored and remastered by Frank Merritt, at The Carvery, London. CD version includes bonus track, "Georgy Porgy (Version Disco)".

"... I met my friend Pascal Rioux from Favorite Recordings and told him about an amazing unreleased track I received months before, on a home-burned CD, from Esnard Boisdur. Among other beautiful songs, it contained one outstanding track, a mix of modern Gwoka and Zouk called 'Mizik Bel' . . . As Africaine 808, Dirk Leyers and I spent considerable time trying to re-create the composition of the original, respectfully slicing and re-arranging it, adding new instrumentation, and recording additional percussion and talking drum with our percussionist Eric Owusu (Pat Thomas/Ebo Taylor)." --DJ Nomad, June 2019

Double LP version. Gatefold, Tip-On sleeve. Ready for an adventure running parallel to their lives in common units, the quartet Aldorande boarded a starship to set off on an astral expedition. The mission began perfectly, according to plan. From the very first measures, the travelers were released from the Earth's gravity. Very quickly, their home planet appeared tiny and distant, before disappearing completely. Comets and novae lit the way through the fathomless depths of interstellar space. Their preliminary, in-depth studies of '70s jazz-funk were a great source of inspiration. Very early on, they knew that this sonic aesthetic would allow them to travel even farther, navigating only with organic instruments and no digital backing or enhancements. Commander Virgile Raffaëlli's bass lines guided their journey, offering a calm, yet vibrant foundation for the smoother phases and turning up the power to bring them through turbulence and meteor showers safe and sound. Like a compass, the bass indicated the direction and traced a groove that the loyal, valued crew could follow as their travels continued. Mathieu Edouard's drums solidly locked down the rhythm to avoid any sudden jolts, working in tandem with Erwan Loeffel's jet-propelled percussion. On the keyboards, Florian Pellissier drew harmonies and riffs from the synthesizers and electric pianos to oil the machinery and lighten the load when the ensemble needed to rise a few feet. The crew's almost telepathic cohesion was key to their success, allowing them to express interior emotions with just a few notes. Here is the last transmission we received: We have landed on an unknown planet and are depressurizing the airlock with help from subtle horns and ethereal choruses so we can discover the new horizon. It definitely meets our expectations! The desert before us holds the promise of new life. The warm yet fresh air is easy to breathe. A vague psychedelic scent floats through the atmosphere, as if ready to spring from the first flower to bloom. Dreamlike, mysterious, enigmatic yet familiar, we will call it Aldorande.

Voilaaa is one of the many projects led and produced by Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart. Voilaaa now presents a new four-track EP, which will be followed later in 2019 by a new LP. Another killer package where Patchworks teams up again with longtime partner Pat Kalla, but also with newcomers to the project, like here Ramatou Traore and Ayuune Sule, both bringing great African languages vocals to "Tu Mens Devant Moi" and "Woman Can Do".

Double LP version. Deluxe gatefold, tip-on sleeve. Born in 1949 in Recife (Brazil), Roberto De Melo Santos, despite a very light discography, is among the true icons of the Brazilian soul music under his artist alias, Di Melo. He's indeed only needed an eponymous album, released in 1975 on Odeon, to assert himself as a star in his native country, but also as a legend for all collectors and connoisseurs of the world. More than 40 years after its release, this famous album sells for several hundred euros in its original version, and even for the few reissues that were offered. Not very active since then, Di Melo however returned in 2016 with the album O Imorrível, released on the Brazilian label Casona Produções. It is then that a year later, came a meeting with the French group Cotonete. Florian Pellissier, founding member and keyboard within the band, tells the story: "On tour in Brazil with Cotonete, we had a few days off in Sao Paulo and I really hoped to make a collaboration with an important artist or band from the Brazilian funk scene. We had thought of Marcos Valle, Meta Meta, or Ed Motta ... but Rafaela Prestes our Brazilian 'sound ingineer/genius' told me she'd worked with Di Melo for his recent comeback and gave me his number. No sooner said than done, as I'm a huge fan of Di Melo. The next day he arrived at our house with Jo, his wife, and Gabi, his daughter. He takes the guitar in front of us and gives us a private show of three hours. We cried the tears of joy. He had 400 original songs never recorded, a gold mine. On the same night, we started working the arrangements for two days, followed by a rehearsal and two small gigs in Sao Paulo. Immediately after, we recorded in the magical Epsilon B studio. This album is the summary of this moment, of these five days of madness spent together between 'the best band in the world' and the legend Roberto Di Melo -- Simple, beautiful, Brazilian-French, human music..." Atemporal found its final version in collaboration with Favorite Recordings and is presented as the genuine long-awaited follow-up to the classic Di Melo LPs.

"Nação África" is the new single by Camarão Orkestra, the most Brazilian of Parisian bands. Sinewy bass and percussion pulsating, with a variety of keyboards and synthesizers surrounded by the burning riffs of the brass section and Amanda Roldand's refreshing vocals. Anywhere close to a good record, you'd usually find Patchworks hanging around. He satiates here his compulsive remix addiction, first by loosening the pressure of the bass, and covering the mix with airy synth patches. Then with a dub version where he puts vocals and instruments inside echo chambers and effects corridors of different scales.

Following the acclaimed first album of Al Sunny released in 2017 (FVR 134LP), Favorite Recordings present this single remix package of "Open Up Your Eyes". One of the highlights of Al's first album was the track "Open Up Your Eyes", which disclosed the premise of Al Sunny music style, infused with blue-eyed-soul, pop, and folk. On the A side, Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart delivers again a hot soulful/disco version of the song with his famous touch. As for the B side, Favorite asked the Canadian producer Jex Opolis, with a disco style slightly more oriented in electronic and house vibes.

Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Favorite Recordings and Charles Maurice present the fourth edition of the AOR Global Sounds compilation series: 14 rare and hidden tracks, produced between 1977 and 1986 in various parts of the world. Started in 2015, the AOR Global Sounds series was born from the will of Charles Maurice (aka Pascal Rioux) to share his longtime love for the AOR and west coast movement and highlight its influence for many artists in the late '70s and early '80s. In this fourth volume, he again selected largely forgotten productions, deeply infused with disco and soul flavors. Half of the compilation's track list naturally comes from the US, homeland of this style of music, but the other half is made of productions from all over the globe, from France to Belgium, from Italy to Mexico. And for most of these beautiful songs, it comes from artists and bands largely unknown and often released as private press. As an example, "Come Back" is the result of a music talent competition won by a student band named Parenthèse, gaining a full recording session in a professional studio and the production of a limited promotional 7", which stayed completely obscure until now. "Mellow Out" comes from the only album by Pacific Dreams, which was fully self-produced and released by its leader Tommy Sweet. Fernando Toussaint, however, had quite a solid career and discography as a drummer, forming the Mexican jazz-funk band Sacbé with his brother, and had one solo album released in very limited quantities on Discos Alebrije, a label directed by Alain Derbez. As for "Never Was Love" by Russ Long, despite becoming quite famous when recorded and sang by Judy Roberts, it's still surprisingly undiscovered in its original version, taken from Russ' beautiful album from 1982, Long On Jazz In Kansas City. There are stories like this for each of the titles included in AOR Global Sounds Volume 4, but the best way to learn more about all these gems is to listen to them, fully remastered from originals, whether your preference is for vinyl or CD. Also features: Arlana, Omega Sunrise, Jonathan Jr., Isabelle Mayereau, Oro, Todd Mcclenathan, Mario Acquaviva, Special Occasion, Miller, Miller, Miller & Sloan and Scott Cunningham.

Double-LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Since the release of his two first albums on Favorite Recordings, Lucas Arruda has quickly established himself as one of the most talented young artist and composer from Brazil. His music is filled with a fusion of style, mixing influences and elements from his Latin musical background, with his genuine admiration for jazz, soul, pop, and funk music. In spring 2015, it was also not surprising to find Lucas Arruda back with a new LP called SOLAR (FVR 100CD/LP), receiving great support and feedback from international media and tastemakers. One of the highlights of the album was the song "Melt The Night", on which Lucas teamed up with legendary producer Leon Ware, reminding listeners of Ware's collaborations in the '80s with Marcos Valle when they perfectly merged together the sophisticated boogie and AOR touch from California, with the blazing sense of rhythm from Brazil. Favorite Recordings present Onda Nova, the third album by Lucas Arruda. Mostly written, composed and arranged by himself, Lucas however teams up on a few tracks with his old mate Fabricio di Monaco (Modo Solar), his brother and musical partner Thiago Arruda, who recently joined Ed Motta's live band, or Gaël Benyamin, aka Geyster, who brings his longtime "savoir-faire" and skills for writing and composing AOR and west coast music genre, and who share this deep passion with Lucas. Onda Nova is therefore pursuing the music direction set with SOLAR, mixing blue-eyed-soul, pop, soul, and Brazilian styles together, and influenced by the path of legendary Brazilian producer Lincoln Olivetti, who recorded some of the biggest stars of Brazilian music (Marcos Valle, Jorge Ben, Tim Maia). In Lucas words: "In this record I really wanted to honor Robson Jorge and Lincoln Olivetti. They are the main influence on this record. We recorded the basic tracks for the album in the same studio that Lincoln Olivetti did his last works. So, this was very important to capture the true essence of Brazilian Funk/AOR tradition. Hope you guys enjoy it!"

Hope you guys enjoy it!" CD version includes a bonus track.

Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Favorite Recordings presents Jongler, the first album by Pat Kalla, produced by Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart. Pat Kalla is a musician, singer and storyteller. Patrice is his birth name, in tribute to the great Lumumba! Lover of words, French language, and music of course, he was born in Lyon, to a Cameroonian father, musician and political activist, and a French and literary mother. On Jongler, he explores from his childhood the soul, the slam, the funk ...and the art of telling stories, life being a great one. After years of touring alongside many bands (Conte & Soul, Legend of Eboa King, Mento Cloub, Voilaaa Sound System), several acclaimed tracks on two albums by Voilaaa (FVR 107CD/LP, 2013 and FVR 132CD/LP, 2017) and recently an acclaimed first EP revealing some hot singles such as "Lady Angola" or "Ancien Combattant", he comes back with this project to put a bit of primordial lightness in a rainy world. Jongler is a tribute to the African culture in honor of a father with "Sawa" origins, the tribe from the people of Makossa. Jojo Ngallé, Moni Bilé, Pain, Manu Dibango, Franco, Rochereau, Kabaselé, Fela, François Nkotti & The Black Style, all these legends' music has turned on the family turntable and the collection whetted the child's appetite. Through this new trip, Kalla revisits styles that are sometimes little-known to Western audiences, such as high life, makossa, Angolan music, afrobeat, afro-disco, and others. One could talk about "Franc CFA", one could talk about Jacques Foccart, but it's better to dance, because "the dancer seems naive, but his feet must be connected with earth to understand history." Backed by the Super Mojo Disco, a hyperactive band from Lyon with deep groove and positive energy, Pat Kalla offers us an anti-crisis project, where swaying and feel-good humor is mandatory! An album soon in the crates, beware; "c'est medicament" (it's medicine)!

Favorite Recordings presents an official reissue of State Of Emmergency by French band The Fizz, originally released in 1986. A real underrated, complete and intriguing album, originally released as a private-press LP -- it's quite hard to find in good conditions nowadays. The Fizz was mostly the result of Patrick Jouanneau, a French musician, composer, and producer who's still active today. He remembers: "In the early '80s, I had a recording studio allowing me to easily fulfil my desire to create songs. It was then that I began to compose and write songs, in French or in English in this case. State Of Emergency (spelling on the LP is a mistake), is born from a fierce will on my part, and the other four have followed, but it was not easy, the musicians, you have to get them out of bed! I have to say that Richard Larozé, the pianist, was a very strong guy with harmonies, and has somewhat changed my first version, much more oriented in soul and R&B." And when asked about his main influences, Patrick says: "It's always difficult for me to speak about influences, out of respect, and humility especially, but they nourished us and nourished this project; Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, Earth, Wind & Fire, and so on, were and still are important to me and this was the case for the entire Fizz group." In the end, State of Emmergency by The Fizz is a very interesting and brilliant album with inspiring melodies and compositions. And who knows, listening to the title "A So Called Being" makes you think it could even have inspired a certain "King of Pop"...

LP version. Discover Le Deltaplane, fifth album by Andre Solomko, and third produced on Favorite Recordings, pursuing a collaboration that started before 2013. Born in Ukraine in 1965 and now based in Finland, Andre Solomko is primarily a rich and engaging personality, but above all, a brilliant saxophonist, composer, and engineer, whose contagious passion cannot leave anyone indifferent. After beginning a meteoric career in USSR, fate led him to Finland, where he started the adventure Vinyl Jam, a label/studio/group. It resulted in two self-produced albums that will capture the attention of some international collectors, including Pascal Rioux (founder of Favorite Recordings). Between 2012 and 2014, they released two albums together, Où es-tu maintenant? (FVR 070LP, 2012) and Le Polaroid (FVR 092LP, 2014), hailed by many tastemakers and meeting notable success in Japan. Following Le Premier Disco Sans Toi (FVR 138EP, 2018), an acclaimed single, unveiling two new compositions with disco flavors, Andre Solomko and Favorite Recordings present Le Deltaplane. Fully composed and arranged by Andre Solomko, the six tracks of the album are deeply infused with his longtime passion for jazz-funk and movie soundtracks, this time also injecting more influences from west coast and modern soul music. Andre's backed again by a team of great musicians, recording and producing the album in analog like he always did. As for vocals and lyrics, he teams up with Charlotta Kerbs, a young emerging and talented singer from Helsinki. Andre Solomko, an artist who spreads love like in the good old days.
