Just when you thought you had Kasper Bjørke figured out he comes back with another great musical surprise. His new album, Puzzles, which will be released on hfn music, follows two recent collaborative EPs on Live at Robert Johnson and Mule Musiq as well as his second Kasper Bjørke Quartet neoclassical/ambient album Mother on Kompakt (KOM 456LP, 2022). Puzzles is Kasper's love letter to the sound of early 2000s New York -- merged with his Scandinavian sense of producing songs that goes beyond conventional club music; combining disco-tinged instrumentations mixed with elements of '80s funk, jazz and contemporary pop songwriting, creating something familiar yet, something very fresh and innovative at the same time. The album includes collaborations with a wide range of musicians and vocalists. From California-based, indie-disco troubadour Woolfy (DFA, Rong, Permanent Vacation, etc.) to the Icelandic dream-folk trio Systur aka Sísý Ey (who also featured on Kasper's 2014 single Apart, where the Michael Mayer remix became a timeless club anthem), as well as other longtime collaborators and artist friends: Toby Ernest, Jacob Bellens, WhoMadeWho's Tomas Høffding on bass, Posh Isolation affiliate Frederik Valentin on guitar and the young, rising jazz star Oilly Wallace on saxophone and flute. Essentially, the majority of Puzzles is played and recorded live, including the drums by Rasmus Littauer (School of X, MØ). Many of the songs emerged from chord progressions written during studio sessions between Kasper and Toby -- which Kasper then produced into a colorful and effective album, rooted in an expressive live feeling far from programmed patterns. Puzzles is a new step for Kasper as a producer and artist, showcasing his ability to move and flow freely between genres and expressions, however still deeply rooted in his love and affection for the classic disco groove -- which is only natural after more than two decades as an active DJ. Another piece has been added to the musical puzzle of Kasper Bjørke. Also features Woolfy.

Lisbet Fritze and Louise Foo have shared artistic trajectories for half of their lives, having been two thirds of pop noir purveyors Giana Factory. As Glas, the duo reveals a patchwork of everyday observations rooted in significant life changes: moving countries, becoming a mother, keeping sane with and without a significant other. The music conveys a quest for balance, riding the line between doomy drama and playing it cool. Their ten-song, self-produced debut, Kisses Like Feathers comes through Hamburg's HFN Music. All lyrics, vocals and instruments were performed by Glas, and recorded in their studio. The album was mixed by Anders Trentemøller, with artwork by Brunswicker studio. The Copenhagen-based duo have never been short on inspiration. Lisbet has lent her vocal and guitar talents to Trentemøller, in both the studio and on stage. Louise has explored immersive music with avant-pop project SØSTR, along with her sister, Sharin Foo of The Raveonettes. Lisbet's other life involves architectural design. Louise works with sound installations in a visual arts context. The musical ideas of these two polymaths find coherence in the newly-formed Glas. Kisses Like Feathers embody Nordic duality. Dark at times, it also presents with an open ethereality. Some songs feel tailor-made for a club's sound system. Others lend themselves to intimate, headphone moments. While Lisbet and Louise's harmonious vocal stack is the common thread throughout the album, the musical fabric is interlaced with acoustic, electric, and electronic instruments. Lo-fi piano and acoustic guitars share a reciprocal space with rich, synthetic orchestration. Galloping, modern rhythms and folk arrangements are often featured in the same song. These elements, and so many others, buttress the pair's hymns.

The composer behind one of the most sensational breakthroughs in Danish music invites you on a crackling, ever-changing and deeply personal journey. His third album Atmospherics drops after a decade in which Mike Sheridan has searched deeply to find and capture his inner sound. Films, theatres and art museums have benefited from Mike Sheridan's sense of sound and melody for the past ten years. An album has been a long time coming because, in the wake of his breakthrough at the age of 16, he needed to listen extra closely to his inner sounds. With Atmospherics, he unfolds the music in a meeting between who he once was and who he is today. Three years ago, he began to create what is now the album Atmospherics. The term refers to electrical disturbances in the atmosphere, such as during a thunderstorm, which can interact with and distort wireless signals. Here, the title refers to both the sound of the album itself, where computer collages, classical instruments crystal clear melodies and heavy rhythms collide, and to the electronic processing and reworking. But really, he thought it would be a quiet release, almost devoid of melodies. Themes and music slide in and out of each other on the album. There are moments of dub, techno, pop and modern compositional music. There are sounds and beats that crackle, dissolve, replace each other, or connect with each other in new ways. In this way, Atmospherics can be listened to as a long exhalation from an artist who has dared to hold his breath longer than most. Atmospherics features both Danish and international guests such as Agnes Aldén (a singer, songwriter and producer from Falun, Sweden), Indra Rios-Moore (a singer, songwriter and arranger, from the Lower East Side of Manhattan), BYLJA and Janus Rasmussen - as well as a host of Sheridan's regular musicians. The artwork for Atmospherics is created by visual artist Nicolai Howalt.

Jacob Bellens' new solo Off My Meds took shape over two turbulent years in Jacob's life. Several major life events happened back-to-back in a very short time, and it ended up breaking him down to a point of total exhaustion. The energy needed to uphold the outer self we all need to function was no longer there, and his inner actual beliefs and values began to show themselves one by one, which was not pretty to look at. Change was inevitable, simply because the price of not changing would be much higher in the long term. The album is a pop-poem about accepting the premise of the life given to you. It is an ode to the perils of modern existence and our birth-given right to love, laugh and cry, whatever hand we may have been dealt to begin with. Lyrically it is centered around self-care and the courage to love someone and be loved in return. About taking responsibility for everything in your life instead of using your life history as an excuse for not living, no matter how tragic or unique your situation might be or seem to yourself. Musically it draws upon an eclectic mix of influences and genres, while still maintaining a distinct underlying red thread throughout the album. It is a melancholic funk hybrid with a positive DNA, and though it sounds like pop music in the best sense of the word, it doesn't quite look and feel like pop music. It is rather a collection of sounds and feelings put into words that are deeply personal -- but personal for all. Also featuring M.I.L.K.

Sprinkles sounds like a utopian postcard -- sent from the past and with hopes for the future. Recorded and produced on his laptop, while spending extensive periods of time in a cabin by the beach in a remote part of Denmark, Kasper Bjørke draws on what currently feels like distant memories; experiences of energy and euphoria from club the countless DJ gigs around the world, during his career which spans over two decades. Rooted in a colorful sound -- filled with light and warmth -- the Balearic vibes and dream house grooves merge with synth choirs, guitars, fretless and acid bass lines and intertwine playfully into a sonic stream of consciousness; a mirage of the past and what will be. Visual artist Luca Bjørnsten's mesmerizing work "Sprinkles", picturing an empty, lush and colorful garden with a large, romantic fountain perfectly embodies the surreal scenario that we have all become much too familiar with. The 13-track instrumental album follows a string of singles this spring and summer and is as a breath of fresh air and a much needed, warm ray of sunshine. Includes download code.

Lydmor's album Capacity is a musical maze full of alluring mysteries. At the same time, it is part of a process of liberation, which is about opening oneself up and discovering one's capacity. For her previous album, Lydmor travelled to Shanghai. But on her new album, Lydmor has mostly travelled deep into herself. Capacity is a contrasting musical work where fiction and reality merge into a multifaceted sound universe. It is the electronic pop artist's most personal, complex and conceptual album to date. There is almost a David Lynch-ish cut about Capacity. The album is like a winding maze where it is difficult to decipher what is real and what is an illusion. Like a book with countless narratives. Without conclusions. Ambiguous. Full of alluring mysteries, dreams, reflections and messages about gender, identity, love, guilt and liberation. Rich in contrasts: Black/white. Silence/noise. Weakness/strength. Fiction/reality. Labyrinth/compass. Features Eivør and Lasse Ziegler. Includes download code and 60x60, full-color poster. "Multiple media outlets has compared the quirky voice to the likes of Grimes, Kate Bush or Björk but inevitably the comparisons fall short." --Kaltblut Magazine "With brutal honesty, unbelievable vulnerability and yet dreamy, she sings the soul out in her pulsating electronic pop songs. The soft, bright voice is deceptive. Denmark's 'hidden gem' is a must-listen." --Flux FM "She is every bit as innovative as Madonna ever was when she started out. Lydmor ticks all the boxes; the girl has everything. For my money she's the most ground-breaking, inventive artist in Europe right now, possibly in the world." --God Is In The TV (UK)

Danish singer and songwriter Jacob Bellens presents his fifth solo album, My Heart Is Hungry And The Days Go By So Quickly. Thanks to his unique voice and his talent for heartfelt melodies, over the years Jacob, also known as front man of I Got You On Tape and Murder, has become one of the most distinctive figures on the Scandinavian music scene. Slightly darker in tone than its predecessors Trail Of Intuition (HFN 080CD/LP, 2018) or Polyester Skin (HFN 053CD/LP, 2016), the new album lets us see the world through Jacob's eyes. The new album is somewhere between left-field pop and a classical singer/songwriter approach, the songs were recorded in two sessions with producer Mads Brinch, drummer Tobias Laust, bass player Jonas Westergaard, keyboardist Malthe Rostrup, and guitarist Tobias Fuglsang. "So many good friends and amazing instrumentalists have contributed to the sound," explained Jacob. "And mostly, people were playing what they felt the song needed, which was an incredibly inspiring way of just letting the process develop naturally, and take on a life of its own." As such, the recordings give off a distinct light-footed and organic feel. Rich in metaphors, the lyrics deal with personal perceptions based on everyday life occurrences that at the same time hint at the meaning of life in general -- or at least suggest a higher perspective. The sonic expression is timeless but also modernistic and the lyrical point of view is refreshingly diverse, never just black or white. The sad songs have uplifting, often surreal qualities, and the lighter, up-tempo songs also invite to a certain darkness. A flower basket full of difficult emotions, sprinkled with magical fairy dust that somehow makes everything worthwhile. Includes download code; printed inner sleeve with lyrics.

Comprising producer-engineer Joel Krozer (Clark, Smerz, When Saints Go Machine) and Brian Della Valle (singer-songwriter of Of The Valley) the Copenhagen based duo got together when Joel heard Brian recording in the studio. Their encounter led to a series of late-night recording sessions, together with collaborator Søren Holme, that quickly became the cornerstone of their partnership and the formation of Fluqx. Monolith is the exceptional debut album of Fluqx and offers state of the art production and highly creative electronica tracks with that special something. The sound of Fluqx is distinct -- a merging of deeply warped synthesizers, swirling textures and Brian's affecting vocals. There is a versatile range of sounds and atmospheres across these twelve tracks -- from the delicate arpeggios of "Carvings" and "Ephemeral Objects", to the massive drum sounds and cutting synth leads of "Monolith" and "Hanami". Della Valle's warm falsetto navigates through this dynamic landscape with ease and hooks the listener in on tracks like "Feather" and "Staring At The Sun", whilst providing space to breathe on tracks like "Here" and "Golden Hour". Elsewhere, ambient, drone-y textures are at the forefront on "Mojave Booth" and "Diamond Dust", maintaining the dreamy, otherworldly nature of the Fluqx sound. Includes download code.

After a three-year absence, Kasper Bjørke returns to HFN with a sublime new double EP entitled Nothing Gold Can Stay. Having followed a deeply personal ambient music path in 2018 led to the release of The Fifty Eleven Project on Kompakt Records (KOM 393LP), (named 5th Best Contemporary Album 2018 in The Guardian), Kasper has found his way back to producing some of his signature leftfield danceable beats, which "the past decade has seen Bjørke steadily rising amongst the ranks of artful, eclectic electronic producers..." (XLR8R) Nothing Gold Can Stay explores both the analog and organic side of his production work on Side A, while Side B reflects on sounds that he would play today, in one of his nightclub DJ sets. Side A contains four collaborations with four friends from LA, New York and Copenhagen. "Water", featuring Toby Ernest, the slow-mo opener to the EP, revives the partnership with Toby that was last seen on 2014's After Forever album (on the single "Rush"). Toby also provides the vocals on the cover version of Alessi Brothers' 1975 classic "Seabird" -- a track that came about through Kasper's friendship and musical synergy with DJ and vinyl digger Christian d'Or, who is lead crooning while Toby delivers his signature falsetto. The "Seabird" cover adds a distinct contemporary feeling to the original version while staying true and respectful to the delivery and mood of the songs core. Side B is directly aimed at the floor. Having stepped away from releasing club jams for a few years, Kasper is clearly enjoying getting back to the business of making people move. Side B of Nothing Gold Can Stay is both a testament to Kasper's versatility as a producer and an all-out dancefloor assault, made with precision and sensitivity. Also features Tomas Høffding and Justin Strauss.

10" white color vinyl. A new release this winter marks a landmark moment in an important musical story. Way back in 2009, the label hfn was born in Hamburg, and made its introduction to the world with the release of the Trentemøller compilation Harbour Boat Trips 01: Copenhagen (HFN 001CD). Founder Tobias Lampe wanted to start a label that was broader in scope than his previous, more electronic-focused projects, and the compilation provided the perfect opportunity to launch one. In the ten years since, the label has survived the whirlpool waters of the early 21st century's constantly changing music industry, and released everything from pop to art-punk, with artists ranging from New York to the Faroe Islands. Now, they're about to put out their 100th release. Fittingly, given the label's focus on new and innovative music, and the historic aspect of the release, hfn100 sees one of hfn's best songs of 2019 put into the hands of the man it all started with, Anders Trentemøller. His Danish compatriots Blaue Blume's new album Bell Of Wool (HFN 099LP) is one of hfn's standout releases from 2019, and so hfn100 sees Trentemøller remix one of that record's standout tracks, the fragile, but soaring "Lovable". In Blaue Blume's original, "Lovable" is an airy, tormented song, a gossamer-delicate composition that carefully stitches together layers and layers of shining synths that gradually build up and up into a peak, before crashing into a subtle beat, a musical journey that mirrors vocalist Jonas Smith's trip from anguish to numbness. Whereas the original's music sounds woven together from light, Trentemøller takes it into darker territory. He hooks the song to a harsh, sparse beat leaving Smith's vocals bare and isolated in the burnt-out, dystopic musical landscape he creates. Trentemøller mirrors the original's careful building up, adding new elements to fill in the song's sound, before it collapses into a tough, noir disco groove. It's a perfectly realized remix -- Trentemøller keeps the original song's skeleton and soul, but fills in the space with sonic touches that could be no one else's but his. Ultimately, it's a fitting song for hfn's hundredth release.

Blaue Blume are a Danish alternative art pop band with a deep connection to the romanticism of the early '80s UK scene. Referencing artists such as Talk Talk, The Smiths, and Cocteau Twins, it's clear their influences are with the more sensitive, magical aspects of music -- and the eternal questions of love, life and death. Following two singles (Lovable and Vanilla) the album Bell Of Wool is finally released. It's suitably enchanting from start to finish. Two themes dominate Blaue Blume's new album Bell Of Wool; darkness and adventure. With the record mostly made before singer Jonas Smith slipped into a depressive episode, the album's lyrics and moods draw pictures of the darkness, anxiety and tension that would mark Smith's depression. Sonically, the album sounds a distance away from anything they've done before. Indie and electro pop and rock are out, and instead the album is crafted from soft, glowing synthscapes, dawns and skies transformed into sounds. Even on hints of their older work, like on the acoustics of "Rain Rain", the synthwork comes into the picture and swells the song into something bigger and more majestic. Opener "Swimmer" introduces the listener to the softness and subtlety of the new sound, whereas songs like "Morgensol" and "Bombard" show the band at its biggest, evoking something more grand.

Double LP version. Gatefold Sleeve; Includes download code. For Harbour Boat Trips Vol. 02: Copenhagen, Trentemøller curated and crafted sixteen songs into a heavy, hazy mix. The music on this mix ranges from shoegaze to electronica, featuring both familiar and celebrated artists like A Place to Bury Strangers (with a new Trentemøller remix) and Slowdive to more obscure finds, as well as Trentemøller's own tracks and remixes, most notably a brand new Trentemøller cover of Neil Young's classic "Transformer Man". Trentemøller's newest project is the second volume of the Harbour Boat Trips mix series. The mix sees him pick up a thread he left off earlier in his career: in 2009 he put together Harbour Boat Trips 01: Copenhagen (HFN 001CD, 2009), a compilation mix comprised of his favorite music, both Danish and international, from across four decades, loosely inspired by the motion and movement of Copenhagen's busy harbor. Closing in on a decade later, the second edition has arrived. "Sometimes, it's nice to take a break from my own stuff and present some of the music that I like and music that inspires me", says Trentemøller. The diversity of his musical knowledge and taste is reflected in the variety of places and times the tracks are sourced from, from old Danish cult classics to some of the best new artists to surface in recent years like Paris' Pyrit and Posh Isolation's CTM. What perhaps unites the songs on the mix is their sense of heaviness, of artistic depth. There's nothing throwaway or frivolous here, a mix stretching from industrial to shoegaze instead hitting the listener in the hard places. Trentemøller's mixing highlights the qualities the songs share, their darkness but also their strange, cold beauty and ability to captivate. Despite the songs being pulled from very different places, they share a certain spirit and form a coherent artistic unit for an hour-long musical journey. Also features: The Raveonettes, How Do I, Kira Skov, The Lollipops, Tropic Of Cancer, Black Marble, John Maus, Moon Duo, The KVB, and Levin Goes Lightly.

Lydmor is Copenhagen-based Jenny Rossander, an electronic producer, composer, singer, songwriter and general troublemaker. I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story is her third solo album, a multi-layered piece of modern electronic pop music. In her sounds and with her words, Rossander captures a reflective description of her surroundings and invites the listener to follow her on a very personal journey. After her first steps with her two solo albums (released in Denmark only to much applause), her first international release was Seven Dreams Of Fire (HFN 047CD/LP, 2015) as Lydmor & Bon Homme (with Tomas Høffding from WhoMadeWho). In 2016, Lydmor suddenly disappeared to Shanghai for several months. Her life in the Chinese metropolis inspired her to write a piece of modern electronic pop music which will be released as I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story. With lots of initiative, Lydmor has made her dream come true to tour most of the world with her music. No matter if she plays an acclaimed festival, a famous club or the tiny living room of her greatest fans, every single one of Lydmor's shows means a highly intense experience. With her irresistible voice and unabashed honesty Lydmor places the little hooks of her melodies and lyrics into the electronic soundscape and she will flirt, dance, cry, scream and hug her way into your heart. After her first two albums, A Pile of Empty Tapes (2012) and Y (2015), Lydmor's new record will see her solo music released internationally for the first time by hfn music. I Told You I'd Tell Them Our Story is a rite of passage captured in intense moments experienced on the edge of the world and on the edge of one self. Lydmor lived in Shanghai for several months in 2016 and the Chinese metropolis inspired her to completely redefine her artistic expression and to write this new album.

LP version. Includes lyrics sheet and download code. With his new album Trail Of Intuition Danish singer and songwriter Jacob Bellens once again is shimmering somewhere in-between electronically influenced songwriting and synth-pop music, using his characteristic voice to reflect on his life's journey. The Copenhagen-based musician has released numerous songs and albums with his previous bands, I Got You On Tape and Murder, with side projects, and features as well as a solo artist. Trail Of Intuition is his fourth solo album and the second one that's internationally signed with HFN. Bellens wrote all the songs for Trail Of Intuition on his computer, with the final production made mostly by Rune Borup and Lars Iversen (The Asteroids Galaxy Tour). Trail Of Intuition is a collection of snapshots of the whole range of feelings for which Bellens digs into the pool of his own experiences. With a significant focus on pop music, an electronic synth twist, and catchy song structures, Trail Of Intuition feels both, bright and melancholic, in many ways. The opener "Sunrise In East" combines warm piano sounds with a semi-psychedelic fantasy and references both personal memories as well as thoughts about nuclear war and druggy, sleeping bees. The rather upbeat single "Renegade" deals with the experience of loss as well as the fear of losing a loved one again, but it also draws on youthful aspirations. Driven by a groovy electronic bass, it has an optimistic and hopeful vibe although lyrically it's one of the darker songs on the album. While "All The Songs" and "Sound Of Laughter" are in many ways merely classical love songs, "Brick By Brick" revolves around the love for the process of making and creating music one day after another. "Friday" is about longing to be somewhere else, dreaming about packing your bags and taking off. "One Of A Kind", creates a darkish but groovy atmosphere, with sluggish piano tones and strings by Ida Marie Arendt and Kirstine Elise Pedersen adding a bit of drama and trumpet (Mikkel Grevsen) offering a festive moment. With Trail of Intuition, Bellen's heads out for the fourth time to tell his story wrapped in catchy pop tunes full of playful oddity to steal the hearts of his (soon-to-be) fans all over the world.

The Copenhagen based pop wonders Blaue Blume return with Sobs. "Macabre" -- "a happy song about being afraid of dying" -- is a whimsical, misty electronic pop song with an anthemic edge and unexpected twists and turns. "Ebony" presents an epic gentleness, beautifully crafted with a nod to '80s power ballads, yet perfectly contemporary. "Mayhem" takes a more electronic direction, with an intricate arpeggiated guitar and a clever drum groove providing the backing for an emotive vocal. "Haven't You" brings the EP to a close, a beautiful lament, perfectly layering guitar, synth bass, shuffling drums, and an exquisite, melancholic vocal.

After releasing records and touring with his synthesizer-driven Kap10Kurt outfit, the Swiss-born New Yorker focused on working in the studio with a long list of major acts like The Kills and Moby, while also writing several original songs together with Dave Gahan for the latest two Depeche Mode albums. But now Kurt Uenala re-emerges as a solo artist under the name Null + Void, with his debut full-length Cryosleep and displays the full range of his outstanding abilities. Swiss-born New York based Kurt Uenala first made his name in 2003, debuting as Kap10Kurt on the essential compilation The Sound Of Young New York (2003). His song "Die Sleeping" was an early classic of dreamy, club-ready synth pop, and it caught the attention of fans and artists around the world. It eventually landed him a gig recording with Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan, not to mention a long list of major acts such as Moby and The Kills. Cryosleep is an album of contrasts and tension, where darkness is pierced by blinding light, and where moody new wave bleeds into stark electronics. In one moment, joyful memories give way to isolation and regret, and in the next, Cryosleep explores the catharsis of crowded dancefloors. Throughout the record, Uenala matches his dynamic production with incredible vocalists -- from Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan and the inimitable Shannon Funchess (Light Asylum), to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Big Pink, and Sharin Foo (The Raveonettes). Null + Void's take on dark pop meshes with his love for Detroit electro, poignant synth melodies, and cold atmospheres. Includes three tracks available via the download code: "Blank Stare", "Where I Wait (feat. Dave Gahan) (Radio Edit)", and "Where I Wait (feat. Dave Gahan) (Aristokrasia Version)".

Despite having deep roots within the club scene as an acclaimed producer, remixer and busy DJ, Kasper Bjørke in past years, has focused on song oriented compositions for his own albums, suitable for home listening rather than the dance floor. But for Fountain Of Youth, Kasper turns his own full attention to the business of making people move. Fountain of Youth is a mini-LP drawing on Kasper's 15 years immersed in club culture and inspired by some of the genres he plays in his own DJ sets around the world: house, classic electro, post-disco and techno. It's exceptionally executed, a masterclass in exquisite sound and production - an innate knowledge of dance floor dynamics. "Cloud 9" is the haunting and melancholic 808 breakbeat infused lead single (which features Urdur on the vocal version, known from the Icelandic collective GusGus) - an intoxicating '90s vocal house music tribute, that will surely provide both euphoric moments on the club floors and warm the hearts of radio audiences alike. "Cloud 9" is released accompanied by luminary remixes from Gerd Janson, Marvin & Guy and Weval. "Klint" is a throbbing and fun jam that conjures up memories of post-disco and itchy Italo. "Rays" draws on a dreamy, descending synth theme, 808 patterns and a thick, punchy low end. "Zenith (feat. Null & Void)" with its distinct, distorted and glitchy modular synth anthem, is a perfect after-burner for the later hours. "Köln" has Kasper showing his deep love for the German techno capital, with a trippy percussive groove that builds into a futuristic ride topped by a simple, synthetic string theme. "Palindromos" pushes into the dream zone driven by filtered drum loops, giving the whole track a sense of enormous space and that certain UK feeling. "Dawn", works as an outro on the mini-LP - a beat-less, ambient saxophone infused affair. The cover art is by Danish rising artist Lotte Rose Kjaer Skau, represented by IMT Gallery in London. The captivating computer visualized art piece is called "Lidenskab" which translates into "Passion".

Jacob Bellens's Polyester Skin is sure to amaze left-field pop enthusiasts and singer-songwriter fans alike. The locally celebrated and award-winning singer-songwriter's third solo album is a wonderful mix of heartfelt lyrics, crisp and modern pop production, and Bellens's signature vocals, which never fail to captivate. As a household name in his native Denmark, Bellens is no stranger to releasing albums and playing live. He has released many albums with his own bands (including Murder and I Got You on Tape), turned in guest performances for other artists, and played close to 500 shows. Polyester Skin came to life in close collaboration with acclaimed Danish producer and DJ Kasper Bjørke, and follows many collaborative endeavors between Bellens and Bjørke; Bellens has often featured on Bjørke's work, including "Young Again" from Standing on Top of Utopia (HFN 004CD, 2010) and "Lose Yourself to Jenny" from Fool (HFN 014CD/LP, 2012). While Polyester Skin's overall sonic impression is electronic, the album also boasts an impressive lineup of guest musicians including Tomas Høffding aka Bon Homme (WhoMadeWho), Jakob Høyer (The Raveonettes, Trentemøller, Darkness Falls), and Nils Gröndahl (Under Byen, Efterklang, Pinkunoizu). Opener "Tidal Wave" sets the mood with open, airy production backing Bellens's voice. The beats and synths have, as Bellens puts it, "some kind of Vangelis/Chariots of Fire thing going on" that's tough to resist. One of Jacob Bellens's distinctive features is the almost Damon Albarn-esque musical diversity of his output. The heavy groove, synth strings, and especially the vocal rhythm of "Behind the Barricades" reveal Bellens's long-held fascination with rap, while "Raining Parachutes" has a Caribbean feel to it, a musical style at which Bellens's earlier work has also hinted. Polyester Skin features quite a few tracks with shuffling grooves and synths that pay homage to a certain flavor of '80s pop, including the up-tempo "Ace of Spades" and the beautiful ballad "Untouchable." But don't let the seemingly lightweight synth-ingredients and crisp drum machines deceive you; a lyrical abundance of existential depth and intimate melancholy is omnipresent throughout Polyester Skin, alongside its groovy, catchy pop songs, including "Back to You" and "Polyester Skin." Jacob Bellens's third solo album is a playful and modern take on the artistic virtues that have made him into one of the most celebrated artists on Denmark's independent scene.

Imagine bringing together two distinct but complementary musical talents, already established as composers and producers in their own right, one male -- with years as a performer on the festival and club circuit behind him -- and one female -- a rising star with a siren's voice, a maverick committed to live performance. Imagine their astonishing sound: an intoxicating concoction of driving rhythms, lush synths, psychedelic effects, and instantly memorable hooks drenched in a dark atmosphere of melancholy and brooding beauty. If you can do that, you're on your way to grasping the wondrous sound-world of Seven Dreams of Fire, the debut album from Lydmor & Bon Homme -- a partnership that brings together Tomas Høffding, the singer and bassist of experimental Danish electronic pop trio WhoMadeWho, and Jenny Rossander aka Lydmor (literally "Soundmother"), a singer-songwriter star rising from the fires of the underground and spreading her wings. Kicking off with the single "Things We Do for Love" -- a masterclass in slo-mo house, with Bon Homme's husky drawl and Lydmor's pure voice soaring over a luxurious bed of sustained pads -- it's an album with a consistent quality that never lets up. From the stirring orchestral strings of "Trooper" to the expansive motorik disco of "Dream of Fire" to the low-slung bassy groove of "Go Fingers Go" to the lush, anthemic "Flash" to the stripped-down sub-bass and intimate vocals of "Wired," it's a fine representation of the duo's string of intense, crowd-pleasing live performances. A playful analog synth symphony opens "Vanity," ample testimony to their experimental edge and yet another pop noir classic. "Trampoline" seduces with its breathy pop funk, teeming with crisp, percussive details. "Tear Us Apart Again" is infectious and choric, underpinned by simple but brutally effective synth repetitions. "Missed Out on Disco" features a Cure-like guitar motif with male and female vocals ghosting each other while "Dream of Fire Part 2" features synth drones that cast a widescreen, cinematic feel. The album features programming by Tomas Barfod (Filur, WhoMadeWho, Tomboy) and drums by Birk Nevel. CD includes two extra tracks.
