In 2014, Young Marco traveled to the islands of Indonesia, visiting several islands within the archipelago including Bali. The voyage was on invitation by Island Of The Gods Records; allowing Marco to immerse himself in the Indigenous culture that still exists in Indonesia. For Marco it was also a look back to his Indonesian roots, with his late grandfather born and raised in Indonesia. The brief was to capture the spirit, ambience, and atmosphere of the islands as part of the labels "Island Explorer" album series. The project embodies the "east meets west" approach the label has become known for in regards to cultures colliding. A respectful collaboration between local musicians who have played to their gods, unchanged in thousands of years alongside Marco's contemporary expression. They are connected only through the universal language of sound and a mutual willingness to collaborate and experiment. A number of sessions were arranged -- recording Gamelan, gong, and bamboo musicians from nearby temples. Island instruments and organic sounds meeting Marcos drum machines and synthesizers in a number of improvised jam sessions. Field recordings were also gathered from jungles, oceans, and streets, capturing both the ambient and chaotic side of life in Indonesia. These sounds and recordings were taken back into Marco's Amsterdam studio and re interpreted into the Bahasa album -- a sonic expression that captures the mood and atmosphere of the islands through the eyes and ears of Young Marco. Almost five years after the trip, the project is now available!

Back in 2015, George Thompson aka Black Merlin started a deep love affair with the remote island of Papua New Guinea. After his first album, Hipnotik Tradisi (2016) was released on Island Of The Gods, George was intrigued to find a place drenched in culture and untouched by the western world. In 2016, George planned his first solo expedition, venturing out to meet the Kosua tribe. Over the course of the next two years, George would record the sounds of the Kosua people, from their daily lives to ancient dance customs and wildlife. During one of these trips he spent 14 days alone in the jungle, getting in and out of the Mount Bosavi crater and a further three days inside recording and filming his experience. These recordings and experiences formed the basis of his second album, Kosua.

Jonny Nash (Gaussian Curve, Melody As Truth) and Firecracker's Lindsay Todd get barefoot and turn out a stunner of an LP with Fauna Mapping. Over the course of twelve compositions, you'll find the pair utilizing their recordings in a whole host of ways, avoiding the well-trodden clichés of the "exotic" and instead attempting to achieve a personal interpretation of the flora, fauna, and climate of the island. Spending time amidst the insects, rice fields, and scorching sun, the pair gathered a library of found sounds which were then taken back to a studio space to be stretched, mangled, and manipulated alongside a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments. The outdoor studio itself became a living instrument, with the duo setting up multiple microphones for durations of up to 12 hours around the space, layering and processing the results in tracks such as "Fauna Mapping" and "A Series Of Small Frogs".

The label is the creative outlet of Dan Mitchell, the original co-founder of East London fashion boutique LN-CC and LN-CC Recordings. The ZSOU sound is beautiful, mind-bending voodoo music, recorded and created in the magical islands of Indonesia. Admiral Byrd/Admiral Dub fuses old world with new, capturing the spirit of Island Of The Gods.
