Paul Frick is back with another massive EP on Kalk Pets. The 3-track EP kicks off with "I Got Through," which is a prime slice of jazzy house. Divine house beats and jazzy synth licks are interspersed with a spoken word monologue by Crawford. "Shoot & Roll" features Milian Vogel and is a funky tune with disco leanings. "Into The Void" is more downtempo and is the perfect closing number.

Behind the mysterious initials of VSQ is Hanno Leichtmann aka Static. He has already released a number of 12"s as VSQ, formally known as Vulva String Quartett, on Combination Records. Whatever name he might use, Leichtmann stands for musical innovation on the far side of 4/4 mainstream. Kalk Pets now presents you with two tracks of marvelous quality. A remix by Efdemin adds the finishing touch to this splendid 12".

"Max Loderbauer, Pier Bucci and Argenis Brito presented us with their sun-drenched acoustic showers under the name of Maluco on Karaoke Kalk in 2008. For spring 2009, the trio's South American sounds have now been remodeled into brand new electronic dance mixes by three very diligent, and indeed very striking ladies. First up is the almost 10 minute-long Soul-Friction Remix of 'Evandro' by Sonja Moonear. A native of Switzerland, she is in great demand as a DJane as well as a prudent producer of monumental techno music. She is also one creative half of the electronic live-duo Junction SM who call the label Kalk Pets their home and have released their debut back in August 2006 (Kalk Pets 6). Dinky aka DJ Dinky is reviving the fresh sound of 'Sam.' The native Chilean is a true globetrotter, currently living in Berlin, where she runs her own label Horizontal. Her most recent longplayer May Be Later has been released on Vakant in autumn 2008 and is utterly beautiful, like the soundtrack of some sublime travel documentary. An exotic adventure in the midst of a big city. Last but not least, Chica Paula is delighting us with her 'La Del Barrio' version of 'Right Time,' testing the mind with such a relaxed sound that there's just no time for moping about. The Maluco-rush isn't at all a new arena for the Chilean musician: Together with Max Loderbauer she is known as Chica and the Folder, an electronic indie-duo who has latest played live at the 10th anniversary party of the Monika label at Volksbühne, Berlin, in 2007."

"DeWalta a.k.a. David Koch from Berlin is an extraordinary musician. Koch runs his own label Meander with two friends and studied classical jazz before he discovered electronic dance music as his personal calling. Since then he has been experimenting and researching in this ever-changing field, either on his own or together with other musicians and producers in Berlin such as Aquatic, Audio Werner and Pier Bucci. In collaboration with Aquatic he released his debut EP Nebelhorn on Kalk Pets in 2007. DeWalta's music is a wide-ranging mix of multi-cultural, pumped up sounds and selected influences from Detroit techno. A DeWalta track was included on Berlin's much loved Watergate club's 2008 compilation CD Watergate 01. As well as two releases last year on Meander, he recently also put out a 12" on the Berlin label Vakant. But his year of hot productions isn't over yet -- the next 3-track composition by DeWalta is coming here as Kalk Pets (Vol. 16). It's sure to be another fresh dance interlude ideal for the grey autumn and with warm greetings from the capital!"

"Some months ago, back in 2007, producer and musician Paul Frick released his first solo house EP Do Something on Kalk Pets and scored quite a success with it. His new EP Knock On Wood is up to shake the dancefloors of technoid soul even more. The Berliner presents us with three extraordinary sound set-ups: 'Slow Dance' is a track that doesn't necessarily incite cuddlesome swaying but strains your legs much more than the title suggests. The title track 'Knock On Wood, Babe' features Matthias Engler on the marimbaphone. Engler and Frick are occasional collaborators in the field of experimental music. The classical trained percussionist is co-founder of the 'adapter' ensemble and plays (among others) with the Ensemble Modern (that might be known even to pop fans through its collaboration with Frank Zappa in 1992). Frick's previous ardour for pop music is represented by his catchy sound-collages. The third track on the EP, 'Steal My Heart,' consists exclusively of 'stolen' sounds that he sampled from other artists. Crawford, known and fancied by Berlin's club scene for his eclectic DJ sets, comments very charmingly on every new sound, revealing who it was sampled from. So the systematic sound rip-off is to be understood as a homage to the artists that are stolen from."

"As a studied composer, native Berliner Paul Frick is predominantly writing experimental music for classical instruments. In addition to that he's producing music for theatre, radio plays and experimental improvisation. It is only through his assistance in Konsens, a producer team and audiovisual live act, that he has come to electronic music. Now he's laying on a fine 4-track EP on Kalk Pets. Soul-breathing and yet reiterative house music, hypnotic and sometimes technoid. The classically-produced tracks get their sinews from a particular state of hovering. A spark of melancholy resonates, but instead of loftily diffusing it arrives at a condensed lightness. Many organic resp. acoustic sounds are used. Some of these sounds have been sampled from earlier compositions of Frick's for classical instruments, again others he has recorded directly for the album. A brilliant debut album of the young Berlin producer."

"With his second Kalk Pets release, Antonelli refines his sound for another couple of revolutions more and such, in the 10th year of his making music, proves once again that the congenial one-man-band is up to continually amaze us over and over again. Speaking of continuity: one's tempted to construe 'Ride On Black Train' as an invitation and to cheer the hypnotically rolling-rolling-rolling train to pleeeeeease go on and on and on. A bass drum, as tasty as manna but with a slightly dry note to it. Melody-miniatures that you'd wanna spread your bread rolls with thick as thick can. Sounds and soundies to regain your faith -- and yeeeeeeaaaaaaah, harmonies! Meanwhile the track romps through the eight-minute mark and you wouldn't mind some stops but then again everything has to end and this spirit-thing, oscillating between alarming and conciliable, makes you quite weak in the knees after all anyway. So in turn the curious skeleton humbly contains itself and certainly doesn't try to challenge the reverse side's almighty train. And why should it? With its gentle bass drum and the elastic bits of melodies the endearing skeleton stands for itself, tatting with a gentle stoicism and spinning around in osseous circles. The sleeptrack again should be above all understood as a finger exercise -- not least due to its brevity. And considering its curious, feverishly swelling undertone you wouldn't necessarily want the latter to rise and shine... it's flickering, it's pulsing, it's driven -- but relax: before it gets uncomfortable, it's already over."

"Jack of all trades Daniel Meteo released his debut album Peruments in 2006 on his own Meteosound/Shitkatapult imprint. Now he is presenting with 'Memento' a club version of his musical world on Berlin label Kalk Pets. The actual hype for well-trained, cleaned up and straight functional minimal techno does not seem to touch Mr. Meteo, who prefers to take an extra ride around the block to have a 2nd look into deepness and other musical horizons and music-music. So Memento offers a tech house EP combined with a big love of ideas, motive, harmonies and sound very euphoric on the floor. Daniel Meteo runs his own little booking agency Flow.er and runs the label family Random Noize Musick (Shitkatapult, Musick, Meteosound) together with Marco Haas aka T.Raumschmiere and Lorian Schmieg. As DJ, he travels the world and produced with Tom Thiel as Bus two long players and several 12"s on Pole's ~scape label, as well as remixes for artists like The Orb, Apparat, Masha Qrella and Dntel."

"It was quite a time, almost 20 years ago, when David Koch (aka DeWalta) and Frithjof Meissner first met on that corn field under the sunny sky of a tiny little village, somewhere near sweet Heidelberg/Germany. Back then David started to study acoustic instruments, mostly wind instruments. Sessions, bands and different projects led him to further studies and finally to the profession of jazz. Meanwhile Frithjof began to develop a curiosity for collecting music, besides his classical string playing. Besides David's musical education, he started his own 'musical research,' including issues like composing, phrasing, sound design and production techniques which brought him finally to his music lab and studio in Berlin. Since the two guys are enjoying living together in Berlin, they spent some years racking their brains over the phenomenon of electronic dance music. The first 12" result can be listened to on the Nebelhorn EP, released on the German Karaoke Kalk sub-label KalkPets."

"One season after Leichtmetall released their album Wir Sind Blumen on Karaoke Kalk in summer 2006, here follows its complying tool. Grinser tinkers about with an excellent mix feat. a wonderful squeeze-backing by Max Loderbauer who in the past has made quite a splash on Cadenza as one half of N.S.I. A blissfully playful track with a furious break. Dennis Busch aka James Din A 4 is responsible for the other tracks: 'Unkerich RMX' is a real groover with a smashing wind section whereas the 'Rumpelritter' (rumbling knight) mix lives up to its name, getting giddy included. Reminds a little bit of the very early Profan releases. Gorgeous!"

"With friendly assistance from Hamburg city it features four remixes of selected tracks from Wechsel Garland's album Easy. In their unmistakable manner DJ Koze as well as Lawrence dedicate themselves to the sounds and songwriting ideas of Wechsel Garland a.k.a. Jörg Follert. The result is a marvelous EP and a congenial blend of minimal and tender bonds."

This is Roman's second release on Kalk Pets, featuring remixes of tracks off his forthcoming album So Ghost?, which will be released on Karaoke Kalk. The artists include musician, remixer and DJ associate of the Frankfurt-based Playhouse label Losoul, giving us his very own interpretation of the track "True Love Owes Us Shit," Pascal Schäfer who is well known from his releases on Karaoke Kalk and Kalk Pets, giving us ample evidence how a straight bassdrum can stir up a typical surrounding, and finally, Torsten Mauss and Volker Bertelmann as Tonetraeger, who present their interpretation of "Unbroken Smile," turning up the vocals and reinventing the original track into a deep and floating mix. So ghostly.
