KITJEN 009EP
|
Back in the game, Fantastic Man returns to Kitjen with a powerful EP of mind-bending, acid workouts. Solar Surfing is a concise example of the Australian artist's panache for psychedelically inspired house music with two dance-floor heavy cuts preceding a contemplative, baseline driven slow jam. The hypnotic and fast paced title track locks in and moves ever forward, whilst "Native Power" features the classic sound of Fantastic Man's 303, coupled cleverly with the sound of an extraterrestrial bird-song. A drop-in tempo rounds off the release with "Avocado Conception", an expertly delivered exploration in slow, chugging nostalgia.

Kitjen returns in 2019 with the first long-player in its catalog. S-F-X is likely known as Chinaski and for his releases of dancefloor tracks and remixes. Here he delivers a sample-based power ambient LP, sporting a dusty touch inspired by horror movies on VHS cassettes.

Now you can play a different Kitjen record every day of the week, because the label has some hot Dutch jams coming your way. Utrecht's own Stijn Sadée, who has been making moves in the Dutch scene for a while and runs the infamous Club Sauvage night, brings us Affetto, three mystically exotic joints that showcase his manifold sources of inspiration and will bang your gong this summer. None other than Hessen's love doctor Gerd Janson stops by to seal the deal by turning the title track into a 12-minute dancefloor journey.

Kitjen's fifth installment comes in the form of three floor-friendly cuts by Melbourne/Berlin's Fantastic Man. This Swiss army knife of a 12" gracefully knocks on the doors of Italo and acid house and is filled with trippy drums that create a perfect pool for you to drown in. This record is a fantastic stocking stuffer and the official dress code for this release is "retired magician".

"An Irishman, an Italian, and a German walk into a bar..." What sounds like your tipsy uncle telling you a joke is actually the story behind Rishi. Legendary musician Shit Robot (DFA) invited his buddies Rino Spadavecchia (Space Ranger) and Kai Philipp to his lab to create two interpretations of "Rishi." The result is a killer 12" that features two unapologetically hypnotic dancefloor cuts.

Munich-based Tambien deliver "Ondulé," an irresistable groove stretched over eight minutes and supported by twirling percussions and flickering synth sounds; a piano chord drops every now and then to keep you grounded, until the end's elf-like scats take you away for good. Kornél Kovács works his remix magic with a stripped-down version of the original that builds slowly to develop an epic drive with dark, melancholic chords and a thriving bassline, guaranteed to get some hands in the air at clubs and festivals around the globe. Produced winter 2014/'15.

Kitjen is now not only a basement party in the German south, but also a mom-and-pop-store-ish record label for contemp(t)orary dance music. The bottle of champagne for its maiden trip comes courtesy of Phillip and Jacob Lauer aka Hotel Lauer in the form of their The Lauhman Brothers 12". "Agass" is, first and foremost, an anthem (!), with some serious synth business that will have you crying at the discotheque, while "Stollice" is some proper Italo-jackin' silliness for the freaks!
