The Riotvan label celebrates presents its tenth release, taking a look back at its catalog while also looking ahead at future releases. Riotvan is not only a reflection of Leipzig's electronic music scene; it's also an inherent part of the community. Familiar Faces No1, the label's first various artists release, gathers the inner circle of the Riotvan cosmos on one record for the first time, marking the beginning of a series featuring the label's close friends. Includes tracks by Good Guy Mikesh, Panthera Krause, Filburt, Jennifer Touch, Benjamin Fröhlich, and Llewellyn.

Riotvan premier of Thomalla (The/Das, Krakatau, Running Back, Permanent Vacation), the first non-local artist to release on the Leipzig-based label. The zeitgeist seismographs at the Boiler Room describe his sound as "weirdo house for the freaks." Opener "Pataphysics" is a good example -- an oscillating floor meditation with a flush of percussion details. "Hamam Hotness" is less spacy and equipped with soothing basses. "Hermitage" starts with detailed percussion elements and a fluid sound design, only to stretch into paradisiac break-worlds. "Oh Sunday" escalates the game between melodic and rhythmic impetus before an intelligent house finale.

Opener "Power Plant" is no flimsy tree-hugger soup. Its massive energy thrusts and detailed, fizzy synths condense over a bassy hook, which is then mirrored in a glassy synth riff that sounds like an echo from the electronic Mount Olympus. "Havoc in the Stable" comes along more subtly, with a bunch of strings in its structure and catchy auto-sampling instead of big vocal arrangements. "Standing," a dusty, dry track, brings lush, gritty bass lines, droning synths, and swagger, hunting the hornet swarm through the analog synth. "Phoenix," an incomparably tender example of poise founded on a piano undercoat, escalates irresistibly.

Kraus Panthera delivers a mini-album for the Riotvan label. The opener "Through My Mind" expands to turn into a dense synth cloud which casts anchor on the dancefloor. Then, "Isla" soars into the climax, drifting off into the eternity of space while the track unpacks the flute of longing. "If" approaches you as a percussively-padded jazz monster. Rumor has it that joint sessions with Panthera's niece and drummer Paul Tetzlaff have had an influence on that one. Finally, "Dubcek" is full of skillful disco coolness, including a cheekily groovy bass line and a drama boost made of a sample turned into a note.

Leipzig connoisseurs will already have cherished Markus Gebauer's earlier works under the moniker Boytalk, but here he astounds with an EP that should be able to light up the new disco sky with his neon-white new name. This EP is called Night Stalker, and already the two first tracks fork out trumps with such an ease that your hips will loosen up and your heart will open. There is the opener "Stretching," featuring Jennifer Touch, that weaves dreams from synth planes and grabs a pointedly funky bass. The title-track is also refined by Miss Touch. Carefully-stacked planes, sparkling melodies and unbounded reverb spaces make up the flavor carriers. The package is rounded off with the rattling phantasm "Mirage" and a floor-standardized house variety of the title-track from the Lauer smithy. The artwork originates with Gebauer himself who makes no pretense of the fact that he has a couple of Peter Saville sleeves in his vinyl cabinet. Limited to 300 copies.

Panthera Krause releases his solo debut Yorikke on Riotvan. It comes as a 12" vinyl in a limited edition of 300 copies. These three tracks clearly show that he's able to dash the groove to the ground and collar it with disco and house pearls. It's not just that, the EP contains a vinyl-exclusive piano version of "Summer Breeze" and a chilly remix by Llewellyn aka Lake People as well as a cover made by Panthera Krause himself.

Good Guy Mikesh & Filburt from Leipzig come on strong with their latest single, released on clear 10" vinyl. Superb house music with a '90s feel. Permanent Vacation contributed a remix for the B-side, and Marky Flynn aka The Drifter lent his voice. Who isn't absolutely stunned at this point hasn't gotten house music. Everyone else may now euphorically raise their hands in the air and blissfully dance to true summer hits.
