TEARDROP 008EP
|
D-Pulse, the live electronic trio from St. Petersburg, have released their music on such established labels as Tirk, Gomma, OM, Theomatic, and most recently, Island Records, with their remix for British rock-musician Paul Weller. "Keep On Running" is an outstanding tune in every way -- its full of analog synth-lines, drum grooves, live instruments, vocoders and vocal bits. Three remixes from Datasette, Andy Hart & Max Graef, and Amberflame complete this package and should have something for everybody.

Teardrop presents the track "I Need It" from The Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club, produced with his pal Lipelis, with remixes from Lovebirds, Iron Curtis under his new moniker Leaves and Vougal. The original comes with a Todd Terje-esque beat and a super-catchy but not cheesy piano chord stab and vocal chop. In the second breakdown an irresistible 303 bass pattern sets in and turns the track into a big retro-house groove.

The honeybadger is the most badass animal on the planet -- it simply doesn't give a shit about anything, and this is something Lovebirds can relate to very well. "Chasing Things" is a deep house peak-time funk-monster -- no 808 bass drums, either. "Running Backwards" is a slick mid-tempo rat with some pretty badass drums and a Kenny "Fuckin" Powers bassline. Lastly, "Gives A Shit" is a nice oldskool tune with a heavy bassline on top of some Moodymann-ish chord stabs.

Lovebirds serve up some fresh slices of homemade house jam. "Love & Happiness" is a slick, slow house-bomb with proper oldskool 909 drums and some sliding portamento chords that won't ever leave your head. The breakdown takes you even further back in time to that beautiful intro that has rarely been used more beautifully. Tested so far by Vincenzo, Phonique and Mr. Bird himself, to devastating dancefloor effect. Includes a mix of "The Rain" by Steve Bug.
