Joseph Higgins is back on the label under his flagship moniker Metrist. Pollen Pt. I is the first part of a trilogy of records, showcasing Metrist's latest developments in twisted beat-science. The release combines four tracks of rude boi electro swagger, off-kilter vocal chops, and imaginative grooves. Since his L.SAE record in 2015, Metrist has released on Where To Now?, Neighborhood, and Opal Tapes. Here he refines his sound palette even further, striking a unique balance between the avant-garde and dancefloor. Artwork comes courtesy of Harry Butt.

2017 repress. Intrigued By The Drum EP sees the London-based producer explore evolving rhythms and electronics. While the tone stays relentlessly tribal, Ploy variates on the theme. The opening track's dread is balanced out by the warm, colorful strings on "Zoom", whist "Blow Poke" bounces with frenetic propulsion. The EP concludes with "Bad Seed", where a sultry groove is programmed alongside the wooziest of pads. All four tracks showcase Ploy at his most subtle and accomplished, it's well worth the wait.

Timedance drops a second instalment of remixes, featuring two interpretations of the Ploy track "Footprints In Solid Rock", taken from 2016's Iron Lungs EP (TIMEDANCE 005EP). Beatrice Dillon contributes first with a sublime, dubbed-out trip. She strips back the percussion of the original and adds a single dreamlike chord -- it's a real zoner. Peder Mannerfelt supplies the flip. The remix takes on a stomping yet minimal form, before dissolving into one of the most wigged-out uber-rave breakdowns, designed for the late night sessions.

For Timedance's ninth release, some of its favorite artists remix tracks from the back catalog. Opening with a Stenny remix of Lurka's "Beater". The Illian Tape producer warps the drums from the original into his trademark cavernous rhythms, while dread-filled drones circle in the background. Asusu takes Bruce's "I'm Alright Mate" and twists the sounds into a techno trip, it's as subtle as it is banging, with impressive definition and depth. For the final remix, Bruce's "Post Rave Wrestle" is flipped by Mosca into a low-slung, spooky groover, utilizing wild feedback loops alongside distant haunting shouts.

"Murmur" is focused around a single stuttering beat pattern, played across multiple instruments. After its initial stark drop, the track evolves into a more measured form, whilst still ramping up its mind-mashing dancefloor purpose. "Groundwork" expands on the theme of subtle, but effective grooviness. Synth lines rise into bursts of spacious noise, ascending before being clamped back onto the tenacious but constantly developing rhythm. "Whisper" concludes with giant throbs of sub and woozy but visceral pads, fading into a sea of reverb and modulation.

Timedance concludes 2016 with the up-and-coming London based producer Laksa. "Contrasts" has been in high demand with DJs. A chugging b-boy kick pattern rolls along with crashing hi-hats and claps, before delicate, ghostly synths are faded into picture. A refreshingly unique peak--time dancefloor track. "Lost Code" utilizes low-slung house drums, with muted, cloudy melodies floating above. "Buried" takes things even deeper - delayed, textured percussion, is coupled with murky pads and a deep, suffocating bassline geared for the late night zoners.

2017 repress. I'm Alright Mate sees the Bristol-based producer shift full throttle into far more menacing territory. Fueled by the distaste for ignorance, blind condescension and amphetamine fueled brawls, Bruce delivers two cuts of floor destroying workouts. "I'm Alright Mate" has been dazing dancefloors for over a year, recently being a highlight of Joy O's Dekmantel mix. Tenacious kick drums set the tone, before screaming feedback obliterate any sense of predictability. It is as mischievous as it is hostile. "Post Rave Wrestle" utilizes a similar sound palette, but with a low-slung, surly rhythm punctuated by splinters of feedback.

Lurka presents Beater EP. A-side "Beater" brings a meticulous blend of clever sound design and one of the most thunderous kick/snare patterns you'll hear. Seriously tough. "Density" introduces a sea of rippling arps, set to a back drop of deep sub-bass. It is probably Lurka's most melodic and introspective track yet, whilst still keeping his trademark percussion work.

Timedance label boss, Batu, returns for his most expansive work to date. The Monolith EP is comprised of three original tracks and a remix from Lee Gamble. Inspired by the relationship between light and dark timbres, the title track takes on a low-slung, hypnotic pace. "Reez" expands on this down-tempo feel, focusing on a more dub-wise aesthetic. "Void" is an infectious, gradually building loop. Strong emotive melodies set the track apart from the artists' usual "heads down" style. Lee Gamble's "Reez" remix deconstructs the propulsive nature of the original track into a hazy fog.

L.SAE's debut 12 inch. L.SAE is a new project by Joe Higgins, also known as Metrist, exploring experimental techno-tempo music. He creates a distinctively raw, atmospheric sound palette, referencing material from early drum & bass, noise-techno and '90s IDM. Both tracks are tough as nails, containing thunderous distorted kick drums and clattering percussion but also delicate, mournful synth work.

Ploy shows his ear for striking, off-kilter ideas, whilst staying aware of dancefloor functionality. "Iron Lungs" combines ghostly atmospherics with crashing ride cymbals and sub drops. It's as impactful as it is odd, striking a middle ground between the two. The B-side continues the motif unrelenting percussion and textures. "Number 24" bounces around a 4x4 kick and bulky congas, while "Footprints In Solid Rock" strips back the elements to reveal a broken form, combining swung percussion and eerie flutes.
